Yeah I feel like dan redeemed himself and Nathan had forgiven him but the audience couldn’t forgive him until Keith’s death had been resolved and this was the perfect way to do it
Yeah, he did. My parents always taught me that no matter what anyone does to someone that they know, you have to forgive them. Because forgiveness isn’t for the other person, it’s for you.
tbh i love the fact that lucas doesnt come back for dan because its realistic. Dan killed lucas's real father in keith, he'd never be able to forgive that enough to come see him on his death bed. He forgave Jimmy Edwards before learning the truth about dan killing keith because he realized how hurt, distraught, and damaged Jimmy was.
Likes&Favorites yes or that would have been a terrible idea. No way Lucas could have ever forgave him. He killed his uncle that felt like a dad to him, had abandoned him and humiliated his all life him and his mother.. even the other ones who forgive him that a little hard to believe
I'll be honest - I think it all would've been much more poetic if Lucas had a bigger role in this season and went with Dan to save Nathan. I'm sure they couldn't have done it either way, since he was most likely working on other things at the time, but just hear me out. Lucas is always trying to save everyone throughout the series, he wants to be the hero, especially for those he cares about. It doesn't make sense to me that he doesn't help much with bringing Nathan home. He should've came back to find him, and he would've had to learn to put his hatred for Dan aside to help bring Nathan back. It would've forced them to finally work together. The entire last half of Dan's arc is about his redemption, and the only main person he never redeems himself with is Lucas. I think if they did work together, he would've done so. He would've truly found his redemption by bringing his family together. Maybe instead of Nathan, Dan could've taken a bullet for Lucas, and if not, maybe instead of Julian coming to the rescue, it would've been Lucas, who Nathan doesn't expect. I don't know, I'm just rambling on at this point but I would've loved to see that. It would've been a super poetic ending, not to mention the dialogue between Lucas and Dan would've been golden
I do wish Luke would have played a larger role in the rescue of Nathan. It would have been a great opportunity to bring Karen and whitey one last time as well.
Every good show has one character that nobody likes at first and does horrible things, but there are events that change this person and give them a chance for redemption, and by the show's end or the character's end, we hate to see them go. OTH's character was Dan Scott. It was a very powerful show and it had a good run.
I loved that despite everything (including murder) Keith forgave Dan, Keith was always rooting for Dan's redemption and watching over his little brother 😭😭😭
I mean Dan was convinced Keith tried to kill him so, imagine the betrayal Dan felt when he realized his brother wanted to burn him alive (when it was actually Deb) Dan did what he thought was necessary.
I literally just randomly thought of this scene and went to find this video. It's the first time I've seen it in nearly 5 years, but by the time it finished I was sobbing just as badly as when I originally watched it.
I'm not ashamed to admit that I started to cry when Dan and Keith went to Heaven together. Through the pain and the divisiveness, Keith opened his heart to forgive his brother and Dan died a hero on his path to redemption. Powerful ending to this story arc on OTH. RIP Dan and Keith.
I miss shows like these that didn't only involve action and drama.Shows like these had great universal themes and great messages unlike other shows from today
The man he destroyed and took everything from is the angel that leads him into heaven. The irony of that. The fact that Keith loved Dan so much that it went beyond his own murder. He could forgive and love Dan even then. Loved this show so much and I love how Dan truly tried to change and do some good in his life. He couldn't undo what he did. But he still tried to make amends as much as possible.
very moving, it almost makes you think about friends and family alot more and that life is so precious with friends and family that you need to make as much of it as you can through the good and bad
@@mojok7070 He always had redeeming qualities but let the worst of himself win. As he said himself he listened to the voices in his head. But he always had good in him and we can see it especially after he has a heart attack i think in season 2. Where he tries to fix his mistakes and treat lucas like he should have all along. Of course he goes back and forth doing good and very very bad but that's what makes him interesting. I've also known people like dan who listened to the voices in their heads and who also got their redemption I'm truly blessed with that
I think this is the most beautiful scene in the entire show - it’s just perfection. The full circle return to the scene at the school, Keith forgiving Dan, “I told you the voice was wrong - it gets better” - even the music. 12 years later and it’s still a masterpiece.
Was watching this at 2:00 in the morning and crying my eyes out! I couldn't help but think about my dad and knowing how he would have rescued me just as Dan rescued Nathan. There is just something about One Tree Hill that touches the soul. If you think it is just another show, watch it from beginning to end. I swear it will change your life.

I should have always been like my dad, thought. Think smart and not be taken advantage of.... Through chaos as it twirls... it's us against the world.... I would die for both of you, Taylor and Tyler. Gladly! You both are my plus one...Always
This scene made me cry when Dan telling Keith he was sorry for killing him and telling his brother that he is proud of him and telling him that he loves him. And Keith telling Dan he loves him too.
This episode literally had me bawling for 20 minutes straight. For many reasons. 1, because Dan Scott reminds me of my own father. He never murdered anyone, but he treated my sister and I horribly and always wanted things his way. He was never as good as his siblings in his parents eyes and he was always jealous of them. He really took it out on all of us. But as we are becoming older, he trust to be better but often falls short. I hope one day he can become an all around better person. 2, Dan Scott is just someone you feel sympathy for without wanting to or trying to. The fact that he got redemption from his son, his ex wife, and his brother is heart warming and heart wrenching at the same time because by the time he had everything he wanted back, it was his time to leave it all. They really should've won many, many awards for this show. I've watched it 3 times through and it's the best show in my opinion. There's not another one like it.
I have a father like Dan, same thing as what you said. I felt this show to my core and it reminds me that hopefully my dad becomes a better person one day
This was the best part (along with Dan shooting up the place where Nathan was held) of the show after season 6. It seems like the storylines of kidnapping, stalking, jealousy in seasons 7 and 8 were rather weak and predictable.
Except Dans dad doesn't give a shit about Keith and only cares about Dan. His ex wife tried to burn him alive, she is the one responsible for Keiths death.
Totally agree. May seem a little soppy or unrealistic to a lot of people , but the morales and principles it bestowed on viewers was lovely, wether it be about respect, kindness, loyalty, backstabbing, jealousy and family etc it catered for all aspects of life.

when dan is looking at everyone surrounding him you can see in his eyes and the tears that he was happy he had achieved the only thing he ever wanted the love of his family and that he died a happy man
I think it's because Keith death was more shocking than sad since it was Dan that killed him while here the scene is sadder because Keith showed up and forgave him
Keith was the one who want to go back into the school building to save jimmy edwards and i remembered that keith told jimmy a short story and tells him that keith was in the same position to sound like keith killed himself and told his brother to do it you need to watch the scene where keith talks to jimmy edwards
Honestly, of all the shows I’ve watched, Dan has some of the best character development in any I’ve seen. They took a man who so many people hated, and turned him into someone who when he died, you actually loved and cared about. That’s just amazing storytelling.

when i first saw this scene and i saw keith i was screaming, flailing, and punching my couch. it was unbelievable
I’m gonna be real here. This was sadder then when Keith died
of course it was, poor Dan Scott had a bad childhood, it's why he was a bad guy, but he had a big heart in that evil body... he didn't deserve to die.
Still, episode 4×10 was sadder and had a greater impact due to keith. Even though this was sad too
I think it's because Keith death was more shocking than sad since it was Dan that killed him while here the scene is sadder because Keith showed up and forgave him
Are they wearing the same outfits as they did in the episode where Dan kills Keith?
Yup pretty much.
Well that's one way to use the show's history.
Agreed - Really shows you how much effort and attention was put into the show. They don't make TV like that anymore.
They really don't. That's one of the reasons One Tree Hill was one of my favorites.
Keith was the one who want to go back into the school building to save jimmy edwards and i remembered that keith told jimmy a short story and tells him that keith was in the same position to sound like keith killed himself and told his brother to do it
you need to watch the scene where keith talks to jimmy edwards
This scene still makes me cry
Absolutely perfect🥺😢 story telling at its best! ❤
I've finish now to re watch 3x16 so i needed this scene!
“Come on, little brother. Take a walk with me.” That line is the line that always gets me crying
this scene gave me so much clarity. I’m so glad that they ended it like this. Perfection ❤️
Honestly, of all the shows I’ve watched, Dan has some of the best character development in any I’ve seen. They took a man who so many people hated, and turned him into someone who when he died, you actually loved and cared about. That’s just amazing storytelling.
Keith is lifesaver
