    How does it work cleaning your car or truck with it

      Works okay, but kinda weak suction for the entrenched carpet stuff, so it takes longer. I don't use it for that. I use a small Ridgid corded.

    Great short review. I do small jobs and have a small workshop set up in my apartment I'm really glad you hooked it up to the Mitre saw because I'm sick of cutting outside on my landing and the cleanup involved. I want to buy this vac for dust collection just for the 5-10 cuts I make once a month

      Just be sure to pick up the DWV9000 universal adapter in order to connect it to the mitre saw with the AirLock dust port.

    I have now heard from a guy who burnt the board on a 581. He said he was pulling on and off a 9 amp Flexvolt battery while the vacuum was plugged in to see the difference. He said the vacuum ramped up when he put on the 9 amp and eventually popped a circuit on the board. So there's that info. See ya!

      I was using a 60v battery on mine and it burned out the circuit board. I just deleted the circuit board and wired the battery directly to the switch...that was a year ago and it's worked fine since.

      Mine popped something after changing a battery. Ramped half way up and shut down. This is the only dewalt tool ive not been impressed with. Had it less than a year, hardly used it. Never for water. Didnt have good enough suction power.

    5:04 -- Looks very much like that "burnt" spot is a voltage regulator, and the problem appears to be that it got so hot that it melted its own solder connection and then detached from the board... Yikes! That new board is interesting in that it omits the resistors but keeps the same capacitor arrangement. The actual controller chip on the board is clearly different as well, along with plenty of other simplifications over the original design. Hopefully that solves the problem!

      Not a VR, a negative-channel MOSFET to feed the negative terminal of the vacuum motor if battery voltage is above 14VDC to keep batteries in the minimun secure recharge voltage. Dewalt batteries use 5 cells (or pairs or triplets) in series (5S), minimum secure voltage for li-ion cells is 2.8VDC. 2.8VDC X 5 cells = 14VDC.

    • @pablodignani7766
      @pablodignani7766 2 роки тому +1

      The PCB itself is just a battery protection module that shuts off at 14VDC. Any li-ion BMS board for 5-cell series capable of at least 4 amps will do the same job. 4 AMPS is the current capacity of the inline fuse fitted to the positive terminal going from the battery accross the switch to the motor.

    • @keylitho
      @keylitho 2 роки тому

      @@pablodignani7766 I figured it was just a protection module... I am going to try and put a 6s pack on it and see if it holds.. Will most likley make a large 6s pack with BMS just for my vac.. MORE POWER..!!

    I had a cordless vac, I used 2 batteries to clean one car. I went back to a corded vac, I can clean cars all day, no need to charge batteries. Note the old B&D dust busters will go over one hour on a single charge, I like the dust buster better.

    Seems time for Dewalt to update to a newer version with more suction power. They are at the bottom of the list. I was looking to buy one and keep with my current battery system but the dewalt vaccum is less than desirable. Hate to get the Ridgid and be the only tool line in use with the battery investment.

    • @toolrev
      @toolrev  Рік тому +1

      I'm going to review RIDGID's new 3 gal that takes a bag to see what mod, if any, it would need to fit my 60V batteries through an adapter. I like this DeWalt for small amounts of construction dust and to remove water from toilets so I won't give it up for anything larger unless it's got beast mode. Will try to get that review together next week or so.

      I have all Dewalt tools but at work we use a 6gal Ryobi cordless and I love it especially the wheels. Its just so easy to rollaround. I just pull it around with the hose. Thinking about getting one and a Ryobi to Dewalt battery adaptor.

    • @plmn93
      @plmn93 Рік тому

      Yeah even Ryobi is better. This is way overdue for an update, which is why this video caught my eye, I thought maybe there was one. I guess you could argue they are choosing battery life over performance, which may be valid, but a better option would be more power and a switch for "eco" mode.

    knowing what I understand now from your review. I'd just avoid this vacuum altogether and not worry about what board it has. Dewalt has been good to me, but there are a few tools that just are not up to proper standard. The 20v chainsaw is another one, with their problem switch.

      If you're using the 18/20v model the only reason the circuit board is there is for the different battery types. If you don't need to use an 18v battery, just delete the board altogether and wire the switch accordingly.

    • @toolrev
      @toolrev  3 роки тому

      I think it's just the pins on the terminal to battery connection that determine the voltage. But the board has DeWalt's electronic protection system that prevents "overload, overheating, and deep discharge of the battery." Similar to Star and Redlink only they don't promote it like Mil and Mak. But they do discuss it in every lithium tool manual. So if you remove the board keep an eye on your power bars. Otherwise, you risk recharge lifespan. Same risk you may run using a battery adapter, which I do everyday. :)

    Just on the surface it looks like a melted off voltage regulator. Manufacturers are using Lead-Free solder, so what probably happened was that the voltage regulator got too hot from extended use, and the solder just simply melted off and possibly created a short circuit. The voltage regulator should have had a heat sink on with a bolt/nut to secure the piece on to avoid this from happening. Crappy design and crappy lead-free solder = Sell more.
