Taking on Khamzat Chimaev on 2 weeks notice is an absolutely savage move. And he came to win too, you could tell he wasn't gonna give Khamzat an inch. Khamzat also was extremely impressive, especially the way he controlled Kamaru in round 1.

Kamaru did good, he is pretty strong, but Chimaev got that dashing wrestling style that many can't handle, overall it was a good fight!

And that is why Khamzat couldn't healthily make 170: he almost died, TWICE. The third time he tried to make weight to fight Leon (after they each got Covid in the 1st and 2nd scheduled fight) as well as the Nate-Khamzat scheduling: he said the doctor was called, with ambulance, and that's why he stopped cutting the weight, with 8lbs left to go.
He is an elite wrestler, like Usman, Bo and others. And he NEEDS those extra 15 pounds to make himself optimally strong.
Bo is only 6'1" and he never bothered trying to beat up or out wrestle guys at 170, because the weight cutting at 170 is too much for his elite wrestling.
So I have NO IDEA why Bo said Khamzat should return to 170, to take the belt from Leon down there, when it is common sense Bo should be saying, "I'd fight Khamzat here at my division and make him look Division II."

@@SwedishMeattball Colby’s inactivity and probably in the heat of the moment seeing Leon’s constant pressure eating his own mental warfare words hit reality on him fast during the fight. For usman however I’d say the wars he had from the time he fought Damien Maia up until Colby 2 certainly took a massive toll on his body. His last good fight where he looked like he was probably at peak Kamaru as a fighter in his prime was honestly the second masvidal fight imo. He did very well in Colby 2 however we saw he slowed down a bit and suddenly a flip switched where he was more vulnerable to shots compare to the past. The leon 2 fight also showed how much of mileage and time it wore on his body even with him despite winning most of that fight he wasn’t able to capatlise on a clear Ground and pound game like his old self was able to do it was obvious he took a steep decline and Leon being able to steal a memorable first round like that spoke out for itself. Hes still a great fighter but that comes with natural territory it’s due to his mindset, god gifted genetics and overall fighting style which has helped him with the test of time
At 85 his window is extended fighters over the age of 35 at weight classes below MW are 2-32 usman going up imo extended his championship window still got some power to go with his cardio and wrestling will be a threat at 185

Khamzat Chimaev is just an absolute monster of a fighter. Such a mature masterclass shown against, by far his toughest opponent to date. He had it won by the end of the first round with his superior ground work (wrestling). Surprisingly Usman didn't have an answer. Great job with the short notice and just an all round awesome fight. Kamaru survived a 10-8 round where he had to carry chimaev's weight for most of it. Then landed the more significant strikes in rounds 2 and 3. The man came off the couch and showed why he was an all time great! The fight should have been a draw.

The way Chimaev handled Usman at the 1st and 3rd Round was impressive, but the way Usman defended the takedowns and the choke was fucking amazing!

It is gonna be that easy. 185 right now and for the next few years, is going to be one of hte toughest divisions, with DDP, Ikram, Bo, and Khamzat.... all very good, very strong, and very well rounded...
I think 170 is going to be the easier division, for a while. Leon is lucky, that he rose to the top as the single prime, with most of the other Top 5 at 35 or older. Shavkat has arrived at the Top 5, too; but he's relatively inexperienced, so, he's going to need to fight 1-2 more other Top 5 before he fights Leon.
In the mean time, Leon likely will defeat Belal and Burns, to get all those older guys out of the Top 5 first. JDM and Ian Machado Garry are approaching Top 5, but it'd be the latter part of 2024 to early 2025, that they get to fight for the belt.
And anyone who talks about Shavkat of any other 170 rag dolling Leon is just wasting their time watching MMA, as they clearly don't understand the game: Leon's counter pucnhing, snipping style means he's VERY HARD to pin down.
He is 6'2" and extremely athletic, agile, and strong... so again just physically pinning him down is very hard.... but he has the range, skills, and power to do one-kick/one-punch KO, even if he's not always swinging for the fences for those KOs... so if you are chasing him carelessly, you're chance of being KOed are way higher than your chances of defeating Leon.

I don't know if anyone would agree with me, but for big PPV fights, I'd like them to do a brief overview of judge scoring criteria and any potential region specific regulations leading up to the card. As a viewer, I'd view the fight with a specific lens. Plus, I bet it would clear up some controversy for many fights.

30-27 all 3 rounds. Khamzat had usman on his back all 3 rounds, kept the pressure and easily won that. Usman had only 1 small moment where he had a visually appealing flurry in round 2 and landed a right hand. That did 0 damage. 30-27 is the only outcome. 28-28? I'm still not quite sure what was going on with Khamzat, whether it was physical (injury, overtraining, poor discipline / energy management) or rather mental (lack of focus, high emotions, 'ring rust').

Chimaev doesn't have the gas or the heart. I've seen it a lot, he's a fighter that once he gets hit he loses his confidence. He has to be dominant from the start, or he'll slow down. That's crystal clear.
Not really. He can get hit and still be confident. He's still a bit raw, but overall he's a good MMA fighter with impressive striking and explosive wrestling.

I thought and still think Usman won that, rounds 2 and 3. I don't think round one is a 10-8 because that means that one round with little to no damage is equally worth as two rounds where one fighter clearly outstrikes and beats the other fighter. It's also saying that one round is equally worth as a single round where one fighter scored two knockdowns. I don't think a round with no significant damage should ever be a 10-8 by that criteria.. Control is not worth much when there is no significant damage.
Khamzat got 2 takedowns and significant control time, and his sig strikes are not that less than usmans

Keep in mind, usman fough on short notice, short camp. Although chimeav clearly won, id like to see a second fight with both guys getting full camps. Great fight and great respect for one another at the end. Love to see it.

@@dukenukem7043 based on the score card I'd say so. Chimaev's 4 to none in takedown and 7 minutes of control which was nearly half the fight says otherwise. Take downs are huge points, the only stat they were even on was sig strikes and head shots..
Like I said Usman had a short camp for stepping in. Give him a full camp like chimaev did and we may have been a different fight.
If whitaker is still conscious after 5 minutes, the other 20 are gonna be hell for khamzat.
No matter what. Usman is an experienced fighter, been fighting for years and knew he was getting to a 3 round fight. Regardless of preparation, Chimaev was doing things to Usman others couldn’t. He beat Usman, no excuses and Im not a big Chimaev fan. I do respect both fighters.

@@getmine9490 What Chimaev did in the first round was definitely enough to count as a 10-8. He controlled Usman for almost the entirety of the round and was repeatedly attempting submissions - Usman did absolutely nothing in terms of offense. It even says in the Unified Rules “Judges shall always give a score of 10 - 8 when the judge has established that one fighter has dominated the action of the round, had duration of the domination and also impacted their opponent with either effective strikes or effective grappling maneuvers that have diminished the abilities of their opponent.”
@@Triumphantchild it’s not a crazy score, but I think simply controlling someone and attempting submissions isn’t enough for a 10-8. Regardless, that’s why I said it’s either a win or a draw, but definitely not a loss in my opinion

Waaaw what an absolute real f gentleman with a heart of real man these two fighters with a heart of real soldiers are, waaaw kamarus defence from that choke hole was something I’ve never seen or even could’ve think off and khamzat also done an impressive job I don’t think anyone could’ve done that to kamaru what he did and his fighting style and the way kamaru Usman handled it was next level waaaw and I love the way the way these two brothers swinging at one another soo fast knowing times running out and it ended with two me looking at real gentleman with heart of real soldier challenging one another waaaw I was soo amazed these two are real gentleman with a heart of a real man displayed great sportsmanship, these two great fighters are a perfect example to follow as real sportsmanship.
Usman fought very good but didnt do enough to win the fight. I was a bit shocked when the judges scored it as "majority desicison"... Usman didnt do any damage to Chimaev, just a couple of jabs and chimaev was the one who was going forward through the fight. It wasnt a domination but a clear Unanimous decision win for chimaev in my opinion.
Neither, really did enough, that first round did a number on both fighters, Khamzat broke his hand, and Usman was trying to be more careful to not get taken down again.

Khazmat went in aggressive, looked confident, and prepared a startegy definitely dominated overall. Usman is great but definitely lacked a strategy.

Usman didn't take this fight on short notice. Usman announced over 6 weeks befor this fight he was training for this fight cause costa pulls out alot. Not short notice at all. Usman is a beast though
