Eleanor was the heir of William X, the duke of Aquitaine, which is almost a third of today’s France and was a lot larger than the king’s territory. After the death of her father, Eleanor married Prince Louis, who became king after the death of King Louis the Fat.
The Pope ordered for the Second Crusade to begin and wanted the new King Louis to command it. Louis accepted and Eleanor decided to come with her husband. During the crusade, Eleanor was influenced by her uncle and argued with the king about what territories they should attack.
This argument ended with an annulment of the marriage, and two months later, Eleanor married Henry II, son of the king of England. She bore him five children, three of which were sons, but Henry wasn’t loyal to his wife and openly had relationships with other women.
Enraged by this, Eleanor convinced her sons to rebel against their father, and Henry imprisoned her for 16 years as a consequence.
She was freed by her son Richard the Lionheart, the new king of England. When Richard left for the Third Crusade, Eleanor acted as a queen regent in his absence.
She died at the age of 82, outliving most of her children.

Ronald Burgin Start a rebellion and take the crown!
She is my 23 Great grandmother too, we are descended from her son John 1 “ Lackland”
@@lorimose9221 Wow. How did you find this out?
the fact that you can research that far back is amazing
She’s my ancestor too
Dude, I can't believe I just found this channel! Very informative, and you've covered some really interesting people! I've been covering historical figures as well, and would love to get in touch with you. Cheers!
I love your videos
I love this channel, I hope it grows to be very successful one day.
Absolutely fantastic! I just showed this to my 7th graders and they loved it! It is funny enough and content driven that they learned a lot but also were entertained.
Surely Eleanor didn't convince her sons to revolt against Henry II because of his adulterous behavior, they both had affairs? I was certain it was because he sold areas of Aquitaine off without consulting her, which pissed her off majorly because she was living and ruling there at the time while Henry was off in England and fighting in Ireland
LydiaKBrown yes, that is true.
Hope you enjoyed it, see you next Thursday! :)
Tooky History thanks for another great video.
Qilf.. 😂
I love this videos, its my second favorite, after Simo Häyhä, awesome work
Thank you so much these vids are so helpful!!!! I really hope you do well!!
Bruh this guy is funny, I could listen to his voice all day and his comedy is great
She got mad at Henry because he had sold off some of HER land in Aquitaine. She could probably have stayed quiet about the affairs, as it was normal for the time. She had done what was expected of her, she had birthed not just one, but FIVE sons, securing the throne of England's throne. So while she was probably mad at Henry for tarnishing her image and insulting her honor or whatever, it was when she lost land that had been in her family for who knows how long that she got pissed and shit hit the fan.
Also, Henry got the throne from his cousin, Stephen of Blois.
Henry II wasn’t the son of the king of England. He was the grandson of Henry I and Henry II inherited England from King Stephen who stole the throne from his mother Empress Matilda. Do you know anything about the Anarchy? Do your research before posting historical videos.
PS Geoffrey, Henry II’s father, was Count of Anjou. Again not king of England
Great drawing of her. Very good looking.
The video was very helpful and clear about Eleanor (a complicated woman, if you haven't noticed).
Fun fact:
Eleanor (29 then) was 11 years older than her second husband Henry II of Plantagenet/King of England (18 then), thus making her from *QILF* to *COUGAR/MILF* 😆😆😆
Can you make one about Matilda (Maud) first queen of England
Nice video, except Henry II was made King of England not because his father was King. Rather, Henry had a claim to the throne through his mother Matilda. Stephen the Usurper was the King prior to Henry's rule. Geoffrey (Henry's father) was never King of England. However, Matilda the Empress his mother had a rightful claim herself to the throne, but she was unable to take it because they were not ready for a woman to rule. Other than that, you did quite well and have earned my subscription.
i hope it will reach 1 mil subs
Eleanor wasn't in an actual prison for 16 years. She lived in an estate. Basically house arrest.
great video!
He made me cry of laughing when he said "they all boom boom pow to her" and so I started downloading Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peace :p
Helping me with my exams
Nice little Mambo #5 inclusion there, love it.
But héros name was Aliénor not Eléanor
Eleanor duchy was bigger than that, you forgot the south part, it would be 1/4 of modern France. Nowadays region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine is still the biggest of France.
*HUGE TRACTS OF LAND*
5 minutes into Crusade and chill and Richard leaves Jerusalem
im related to her it's nice to know im related to a somewhat known queen. As the rest im related to are very very old and unknown.
Yukino Neno So you have a lot of incest in your genes
I'm related to her too 😊
SuperManBoy1 Most people living today have incest in their genes. Particularly if you are related to some Royal which, speaking specifically about Europeans, most are. At the very least, most people with any kind of European ancestry are descended from Charlemagne, and if you have English lines in your genealogy, then you are most likely descended from English royalty
too bad i don't have incest genes haha probably because im asian
Yoyo Yeah I wouldn’t go so far as to say that Asia never had incest...many cultures, including many Asian cultures, found it the most appropriate match to marry a cross cousin (father’s sister’s children/mother’s brother’s children) or parallel cousin (mother’s sister’s children/father’s brother’s children). It’s still done in a number of cultures outside the west, since cousin marriages in the west are largely considered taboo
Richard Lionheart was imprissoned in Austria not Germany, but the rest of the video was great.
The duke of Austria captured him but sold him to emperor Henry VI who imprisoned him in the castle of Trifels which is in modern day Germany. Besides, Austria was part of Germany back then.
Henry II was actually the king's grandson
Do Matilda of Tuscany!
2018?
Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives, it’s 1183 and we’re all barbarians!!!!!
I understood that reference!
Yeah this pretty much sum up ck 2
Geoffrey, was never a King. He was Count of Anjou and Duke of Normandy, tho'.
This is great but it's a little bit annoying when you use modern flags that weren't used at the time.
also borders... France looks quite right but medieval Germany had quite different borders from today
but..but..medieval ppl only lived till 30 maximum aint that right ?
awesome
wow
Is that shit Danse macabre?
its so funny lol
hehehehe...
Such a traitor
Shite.
