  • In this DCS World Tutorial, I demonstrate the P-47D Thunderbolt landing. The P-47D Thunderbolt in DCS World is a great aircraft, but like all warbirds, can be tricky to 'stick the landing'. This video will show you how.

Perfect timing! Was just looking at the P-47 for the Summer Sale and this is incredibly useful - thanks for posting!

Nice. Noticed the VVI stayed steady. About 500 FPM give or take makes a good 3 degree glide slope. Very manageable. Good vid.

I love the enthusiasm in your voice at the beginning of your videos. Also great tutorial!

You didn't mention it, but I saw you had the canopy open on landing which is according to procedure in the P47

If one warbird in DCS is easy peasy to fly and land, it's this one.
    Now we need a P-38... :)

ignore the engine management and constant roll yaw and pitch trim.

The trick to gently landing the P-47, is to not smash it into the ground.

    A very good morning "TP",
Absolutely excellent presentation although you could be presenting a tutorial for laundry soap or a vacuum cleaner and I would listen rapturously and intently.
Have I simply "slipped a cog" or gone "off the deep end" or have become quite "daft"?
    NO
I am currently 73 years young and ever since the Musical British Invasion of the early 1960's I have been deeply in love with the accents of the United Kingdom and Ireland.
My absolute and all time favorites are the accents of Scotland(!) and far Northern England
I might be wrong but I believe yours is Scottish (Scot?) and beautifully so.
Just thought I'd pass on my thoughts.
All the very best to you and yours "TP",
    Terry

Thank you very much for the kind words. I am indeed Scottish, although my accent has softened as a result of being out of the country for far too many years.

Canopy open, RPM 2550, and manifold pressure shouldn't go below 25" until you are at slow speed to avoid main bearing damage.

Any tips on doing a two-point landing?

      Yes, don’t do it 😁

@@TacticalPascale LOL! Tell me about it. I've got a good technique in the Mustang, and you look cool doing it, but I can not adapt it to the Jug.

Get VR. I tried and sucked before and with it it suddenly worked out of nowhere. Guess it all comes down to judging your altitude correctly just before touchdown and anticipating even the slightest bounce to just push the stick forward a tiny bit just at the right time, so the thing stays down there.

@@CakePrincessCelestia I agree, I've been using VR for the last couple of years. The depth perception is a game changer.

@@Wabbitsw I totally agree, the sense of depth perception in vr verse that on a flat screen is so much better whether you are landing a fixed wing aircraft or a helicopter.

Great video, but I'm having a real hard time safely putting this plane on the ground and I'm not sure why.....I come it at the right speed and angle of attack, but my gear immediately collapses upon contact and I'm skidding to a stop in the middle of the runway.....I created a .miz file with the plane on a right base at 2500' but can't catch a break. I have about 100 hours in small planes IRL, (albeit a long time ago) and about 200 hours in the A-10C in DCS and wonder if it's a glitch...... ?
