When the Larado Taco Company came to the Valley with all the Strips gas stations they had a contest and every radio station had a different breakfast taco. The wining Taco would stay permanently on the menu. Everyone voted by buying their favorite taco every morning. The Q94.5 taco sold the most and won the contest, and thats how we got the Q Taco. What a great way to advertise on all Radio stations!
It was beans, potatoes and eggs and cheese. Later on people started adding bacon.

My kids grew up with egg, potato and fresh flour tortilla tacos.
They STILL request that for breakfast when visiting, they're 49 and 37 years old.
Now I have all the grandkids asking for the same thing! 😄

Hopefully this spreads the Q-Taco to more places outside of the valley. I remember years ago when my brother in law and I were working in Houston and found a stripes we ordered a Q-Taco and they didn’t know what it was so we would show up and tell them how to make it. A few days later the lady was like, “look sir, look at the sign” they started officially serving Q-Tacos 😂 so I think we were the ones that spread the Q in Houston 😂😂😂😂
As a valley expat, I never thought I’d hear a Big Al and Charlie reference the rest of my life. The Q taco is greatness.

My grandma who was from Pharr originally would make this or bacon or chorizo and egg all the time when I was little. She'd warm up tortillas for us and we'd just tear off pieces to use as a spoon. It was my favorite and she always knew to make it when I came over. I'll make it sometimes but it just never comes out the same. Thanks for making this it brought back good memories.

I live in an area where I am the only Tex-Mex and everyone else is Mexican, I respect and love their food, but I can truly say that Texas cooking is one of a kind, the food of my heart, the food of my childhood and I miss it so much. Potato and Egg tacos and burritos are one of my favorites and even though I've done the Q taco many times, I never knew there was a name for it. 😂That's pretty cool!!!!!

@@hexdookhay3369maybe, but never once have I seen a potato and egg burrito offered anywhere I've traveled in México, yet every gas station in Texas offers it, every breakfast cafe, and they even sold it as a breakfast burrito in my TX high school. 😂

I still remember watching my Grandmother make this for us before our road trip to visit my uncle in Arizona. We stopped at a roadside park and it was the best breakfast ever.
A little bacon grease and some onions added to the potatoes really elevates the flavors. And a strip of bacon added to the taco.....🤯❤️❤️❤️

As a teen, a friend of mine came to live w me from Texas to so cal. 80’s/90’s. My gram would fix us potatoes and eggs w tortillas with standard Tabasco multiple times a day. We had a count going I believe one month just the two of us went through about 30lbs+ of potatoes and prob 8-10 dozen eggs. La Victoria salsa ranchera hot , canned jalapeños and fresh tortillas. I’m White as can be ethnically but def Mex and every other awesome culture as well when it comes to adopting foods! 🤘🏼👍🏻

My sister and I grew up on 'bauern früstuck', 'farmers breakfast'. It consisted of sliced bacon, then some onions and potatoes, then crack over a couple of eggs. Always delicious. ❤

My grandpa used to make this for me all the time he would even make the torillas from scratch sometimes it was always amazing. I havent had it in a long time, seeing it again and now i know what im making for breakfast tomorrow!
When I moved to Austin in my 20’s , my first potato and egg taco started my life long love for all things Mexican, yum!
My favorite taco anywhere comes from El Palenque in Corpus. It has beans, sausage, egg, potatoes, bacon, cheese and the gravy from their carne guisada, they call it the Ralphie taco!
Great Value frozen southern hash browns would save time and effort. Love the rest. That taco at the end looks awesome. Interesting salsa recipe.

Oh man......that brings back memories. There was a taco place in Floresville, TX that we used got get breakfast tacos from before school. I wanted a "bacon, egg and cheese" and a "bean and cheese" taco. Two tacos. They shoved it all into one and my life changed that day....lol. We named it the "gringo" and have been ordering them from various places every since.

Ate a lot of these for lunch during college. Fav was to make breakfast tacos with papas con huevo and fresh scallions/onions and put shredded colby on the outside of a flour tortilla so the cheese crisps up.
That’s exactly how I make mine! Adding the refried beans really takes it up a notch. Love your videos!!

That would be good at any meal. My mom taught us to do the same thing but instead of potatoes we use hominy. One of my favorites but I’m going to try the potatoes next and I do love potatoes.

One version i make is sliced/fried potatoes, eggs, bacon &/or sausage mixed in. Tortilla if i have some. Hot sauce from our favorite restaurant (if i could make this version i would)& if we don't have any on hand, then jalapeño ranch & cheese to finish it off. 🤤

We have a Taqueria down the street from my house that makes breakfast burritos just like this. You can get it with bacon, steak, or chorizo. They are my favorite. On a side note, growing up in the 60's and 70's mom always made fried potatoes and eggs. We had them for breakfast and for dinner. Always a favorite.
If you want a fantastic "Q" Taco in the Austin area, Flores Breakfast and Lunch in Dripping Springs (not to be confused with Flores Mexican Restaurant) is amazing. Now I want to go in the morning tomorrow!

There’s a place in Austin called Taco Shack. They have a breakfast taco called the Shack Taco - eggs, chorizo, potato & cheese. It’s so good, I crave it! Second fave is egg, potato, diced smoked sausage & cheese (popular at several bbq joints). Really, you can’t go wrong when you start with potatoes & eggs… I’m going to try your Q taco for breakfast this week at home. Looks mighty tasty! (I’ve been on an egg & whole pinto bean taco kick lately… a family fave from my childhood, great way to use up leftover beans from the previous day’s bbq!)

Arnie, you just made my favorite breakfast taco - the Q. Whenever I can’t make my own, or if I’m feeling a bit lazy, I’ll head over to a neighborhood Stripes and order a Q from them. I make my papas con huevo almost exactly like you, but if I don’t have all the spices, just use salt and pepper. I kind of remember Big Al and Charlie (Q 94.5) were the ones who supposedly named the Q taco way back in the 90’s. Man, has it been that long? LOL. Anyway, keep up the good work my friend, y echale ganas con la salsa!
