    He donated the procedes of the Eurovision song to help the area devasted by forest fires in Portugal that year. In other ways too he seems to be very generous, see how he gave total credit to his sister. There are good people in this world.

    This dude really has a knack for languages. I went to see a performance of his last tour. He was singing and partly communicating in the audience's native language without having a very heavy accent, really. Truly impressive. And he doesn't seem to be afraid of making mistakes which probably helps him improve faster.

      I'm learning multiple languages atm, i started with Swedish, found it so easy i thought other languages would be easy for me too, and that is the case a little bit, but there is something about Swedish, it's a relatively easy language to learn i think. I think it's easier to learn than English(English is my mother tongue though), so i think anyone whose second language is English might not have such a hard time learning Swedish at all. Oh, i do 5mins a day, maybe 5 days a week, with all 6 of the languages i'm learning. I've been doing this, with long breaks inbetween for just under a year. Every new Swedish word i learn just stays in my brain, i don't have to practice so much. I can also read Korean now, i tried really hard with that though. Other languages i'm learning are French, Russian, Greek, and Chinese.

    When Salvador first talked about 'fast food music' I must say I began to dislike him for being so pretentious and was resentful for the fact that people gave such weight to his words. However, after actually reflecting what he was saying I definitely agree. Looking back over the years, my favourite entries felt like they came from a place of emotion and genuineness, songs from like Jamala, Rona Nishliu, Sabina Babayeva and Salvador, but that also includes more upbeat or modern songs from like Loreen, Aminata and Joci Papai.
    It's not about being anti- modern, anti-pop or against upbeat music, it's about appreciating music that has heart and rewarding music that has purpose, not songs that exist for the sake of putting out any music. I like a lot of songs in Eurovision 2019, but I've yet to connect with many on the same level as past favourites.

    • @RoxanneLavender
      @RoxanneLavender 5 років тому +7

      Totally agree. I disliked him too, because the 'fast food' music that year was actually good fast food music. It's like fast food that has little taste vs fast food that has a lot of taste, lol. I like it all. In order to not grow blase about meaningful art, i think it's good to have a balance with meaningful and less-meaningful, balance is important.

    • @yepitsthatguy5278
      @yepitsthatguy5278 5 років тому +7

      @@RoxanneLavender Yeh I would agree, and that's why my main point is for music to have purpose. A song's purpose can be cultural, emotional, activistic and things like that but also purposeful songs can be those that are intended to simply be enjoyed, that are meant to get people to dance to it. Looking back I can see that when Salvador refers to 'fast food' music, it is not to degrade all upbeat songs but to show that songs from kristian and robin b in 2017 didn't have much purpose other than to have a produced song at eurovision?

    • @chlorinelori1064

    Always found it kind of funny, he never directly called out any artists or contestants. He simply said that the world had fast food music, mass produced with no feeling. The over the top reactions from that Swedish guy and different fans proved his point. They knew their songs had no meaning and no feeling, and they tried to defend it.

      Lol... If it makes you feel any better, then... no his pronunciation kinda sucks :)
      But that doesn’t matter as long as you can make yourself understood, (which he can) and continue to work on your pronunciation.
      But he has studied Swedish for 3 weeks so you can’t expect too much, you know?
      In order to drop your foreign accent, you have to completely re-train your tongue, lips, and voice intonation.
      I know it sounds silly, but the best way is to simply parrot your favorite role models in the language you wanna learn. Someone you look up to. There is a lot of identity and personality in an accent and you gotta find a Swedish speech style that suits you.
      Then improving pronunciation and accent becomes easy.

      @ML8593wy being portuguese, i speak 4 languages.
      The fact that portuguese people have a knack for other languages, not only latin ones, is due to the fact that our language itself has a huge variety of vowels and consonants pronounce, wich kind of helps to catch any other language quirks. That is why we can understand most other latin languages, but the others cant, specially the Spanish.
      And since english is wide spread across Portugal, learning any other germanic language is easier, like, for example, swedish

    • @nascentebio
      @nascentebio 5 років тому +7

      SORRY, but so many Portuguese people here never learn our language, and do not have interest to learn it. So your boasting is a bit too high. (I am from Switzerland, the Swiss German part and by the way speak Portuguese from Brasil and other languages) I think that learning a foreign language has something to do with talent, interest, and perseverance when it seems to be hard. It is an attitude of mind and probably also the heart, because if you love a place, or want to love and understand people there, you wish to learn their language.

      I see how you defend him and i partly understand that. But !. He is a public person and he should know better how to handle some of his answers. If it wasn't for Eurovision nobody would know his name outside Portugal. And his perception of quality music is very childish. That being said , some of us (who truly hear Chopin, Bethoven, Claude Debussy) are thinking that his music is too simple and boring for a delicate ear but yet here we are , the rich kid complaining about where the money came pouring in.
      No realness at all.

      Sure, no artist would be known without already a bit of fame. You are pushing for excuses to hate the guy. I admit it that Salvador isn't probably the best with words, even making a bad joke at a festival to pay for forest fires affected families. But you can't deny that he was the general first choice for all Europeans, his music was great, and the fact that he complains about Eurovision shows that what comes out of his mouth is spoken with honesty and that he does not fear to make such comments. In the end, you are trying too hard to hate him.

      @@lerui2820 no it is the opposite. I voted for him and i looooved his song so much while others said that its ''меh'' BUT , fans from eurovision voted for him to WIN , no football fans but ESC fans. and for him to just go from here and there and talk about negative stuff shows a lot of who he is. Lets not forget he collected many votes for sympathy also. He might as well let his sister sing the song but no. So, all in all, i don't hate him nor do i like him. And that is the worst that can happen to one artist. The most successful are either really loved or really hated.

      What I mean is the usual dishonesty that artists and in general competition winners have in these talks. As I said, he has an historic of saying what he thinks. Whether that is good or not is for you to decide. But his words really were on how he enjoys his "humbler" of producing music and singing in small scale, not to be a "showman" singer as the OP said, how he feels that a lot of the music produced today is fastfood music, sure it's made with determination but without heart, it's not that people have fun with it, but that they do not turn it to actual art(not trying to be pretentious), to deposit emotions into it, to make it more than some cool sounds.

    It's very common for portuguese ppl to learn and talk foreign languages, even though portuguese is one of the most spoken languages around the globe, but oftentimes the native portuguese is mistaken with american portuguese which is like comparing british english to australian english, so we adapt very swiftly in order to understand and talk to other people who don't speak portuguese fluently, it's a trademark for being such good hosts if I'm allowed to say that.

You need to look at the history of music and perhaps even ESC to realize that songs like this have been around for a long time. There are so many factors around why he won, it's not just about the song , but he certainly created beautiful nostalgic moment that spoke to many different audiences.

    I've heard extracts of all 2019 Eurovision songs, and can't be in more agreement with Salvador about "is not about singing, but the show". Layers and layers of electronic effects. I think it's a mistake. Nowadays a good songs making the voice singer the mean aspect of the song, and a few instruments for the melody, would be a killer, as there no other song like that (Game theory). I'm pretty sure, as in example, if Saara Aalto would have gone with just a piano and her voice to sing "Monsters", she would have obtained a better result.

    What I've always said is that when the melody is good enough and the performance is good enough, the song will do well. They might not always win, but they will do well. Needless to to say I did vote for Salvador, his performance was not only pitch perfect, it was emotionally compelling even if I didn't understand a word of it,. Within 10 seconds he had me and that was it. But to prove my point, here is the link to Chiara's performance from 2004 (ua-cam.com/video/Vv8GmwcfR9A/v-deo.html). She didn't win, she came 3rd, but when one large woman can be on the stage all alone and when the song is good enough and performed well enough it will do well. Another example would be Il Volo from Italy 2015 (link here : ua-cam.com/video/1TOMqZV2jA8/v-deo.html). Even if they don't don't win, people will recognize good music and vote for it. And there is nothing wrong with trying to get ahead if you're a young artist and Eurovision is one way to try and get there. So when he says he prostituted himself participating in the song contest, I do agree but only to a point. It is also a great way to show case your music, whatever genre it may be. And Salvador I do adore you and your music !

    The song is of loving a person beyond death. The idea of a person weak and the other wondering what to say. The words they say are even after your gone I will love you still.
    The title of the song is "Loving for both" and not in the sense one no longer loves, but that they died. This would be thus the swan song you offer to let them know there is nothing that can replace you in my heart.
    The crowd loves the movements he does and style of music choice because it harkens to old times and the hands by the heart or making little movements which are delicate thus remind of times gone by and being full of emotion.
    My top 10 list at Eurovision, unless someone tells me something to watch:
    1) “Hurricane” by Eden Golan (2024)
    2) “Arcade” by Duncan Laurence (2019)
    3) "Fairytale" Alexander Rybak (2009)
    4) "Amar Pelos Dois" by Salvador Sobral (2017) or "Loving for both" or in other words one is about to die and the other is saying they will love them still
    5) "Hasheket Shenish'ar" by Shiri Maimon (2005) or "The Silence that remains"
    6) “Why Me?” by Linda Martin (1992)
    7) “Nocturne” by Secret Garden (1995) or "the night"
    8) “Waterloo” by ABBA (1974)
    9) "Zitti E Buoni" by Måneskin (2021) or "Shut up and be good" by Moonlight
    10) “Ne partez pas sans moi" by Celine Dion (1988) or "Don’t Leave Without Me”
    11) “Toy” by Netta (2018)
