Yup I like that concept! Bent a copper 3/8 loop by hand as you did. I have a tripod almost identical to yours.Added a hook on the center down tube for a weight to lower center of gravity and add stability and up wind resistance. This is a really satisfying design. Well done. Kk6SQY
So what is the loop? How do you tune it with the mini tuner??? 2 minutes about the tripod would be sufficient. I want to know about the. Procedure. Thanks!
I see that that the tuning is done with the little tuner, but is it possible to get it as close as possible to say under 2:1 match and then use the tuner on the radio or external tuner?
i had s straight piece of tubing that i had measured to the correct length, then i slowly bent it by hand so it didnt kink. i had no special tools i bent it by hand and took my time, paying attention to its shape. and when i had the loop bent in a circle that had good roundness, took a hammer and flattened the ends and drilled the holes to fit the lugs on the tuner......... simple. thanks.
WP4OSQ FT817-ND QRP i made it by hand.....eyeballed it.....its tubing 1/4 inch. I switched it out for 1/4 copper. Both are light weight for the size. Works great for portable qrp. Easy to set up on a table or fully extended as shown. Super easy to tune. Y
Jerry Mungo you could with the right circumference. It would have to be longer thus making a bigger diameter loop. But you would have to be aware of the extra weight of the loop. But i think it would, just not with this size loop.
@@vetham100 refer to the ops manual of the loop.....its three quarters of a quarter wavelenght... maby around 54 inches in circumference....i cant remember.
I live in an apartment, and very frustrated about the lack of ability to get on the air. After much research, and many attempts at dipoles and end feds, I ordered the mfj pocket loop after watching your video. I have 2 old camera tripods, neither of which have the detachable camera portion. I was wondering if you can give the info like brand and where you got it. I was going to try for the MFJ-935B but with very limited funds I decided to give this a try first. My rig is an FT-450D, and I have been experimenting with digital. Thanks in advance for your reply. Rick Fischer ...yes I ended up using quarter inch copper refrigerant tubing as well....i use this loop not only at home but in the field on top of picnic tables or on top of the roof at work during lunch....it's one of the best qrp antennas I've used....easy and quick to tune and does a great job....it's have made contacts all over the country in that sun room on 10 watts.....73

Nice dolls! haha. Very cool application of the Pocket Loop Tuner, gonna try it myself. thanks!
What bands are you using that loop for? 10/12 meters? Well done. 73 from N2LRB
I ended up using 3/8 copper refrigerant tubing.......it works great! I managed to work Florida and Georgia from the sun room on 10 watts!
So what is the loop? How do you tune it with the mini tuner??? 2 minutes about the tripod would be sufficient. I want to know about the. Procedure. Thanks!
Adjust the tune and antenna for lowest swr with 1 watt am carrier......tripod is a camera tripod....from ebay
The metallic circle was home made from you? Diamter misure for what band? The circle is separated on the top?
Its joined at the top....it was one quarter of a quarter wavelenght for 28.400....something like 58 inches circumference
@@gregoryburbage7906 ok perfect! Oh the top i see differet color in the circle so i supposed it was separated.
Excellent video and a great idea very useful.

People do it but it's not recomended.....you can get under 1.5 to 1 with the pocket tuner only.
@@gregoryburbage7906 thanks Gregory
Have you ever tried this tuner with stranded 14 AWG copper-clad steel? That's what I have lying around. Haven't ordered the 9332 yet but plan to soon.
No i havent but if you go to ham radio concepts channel you can see him using it with the supplied #14 wire thats included.....thanks.

Looks great and it must be LIGHT... how does it get out?
Very well for what it is..... locally around 10 miles.....dx, several states on 8.5 watts
how big is the loop and what is the frequency range as shiwn?
It did 20m thru 10m. And i think the circumference was 52 in.
Great video and i look to modify mine as well. Whats the diameter?
Clever idea! Good work!
How well does it perform on the horizontal?
A bit better than a mfj 1899t........not as good as a wire obviously but better than a telescopic whip type.......and needs no radials
who made the loop. is this a solid rod or it is a tube?

What lengths for 20 meters thru 10 meters?
Instructions on MFJ site give lengths for specific bands or range of bands:
www.mfjenterprises.com/support.php?productid=MFJ-9232
the tubing was old ground plane radials from a old cb antenna.
I swapped out the aluminium loop for a copper 1/4 inch tubing loop....seems to do a bit better
Nice video, can you also show how to make the loop? I do not have special tools, so i am wondering how to make one. Thanks
GREAT THINKING STUFF !!!
FERNANDO SCRENCI thank you. It works really well.
Can you work 80 and 40 meters with this?
Jerry Mungo you could with the right circumference. It would have to be longer thus making a bigger diameter loop. But you would have to be aware of the extra weight of the loop. But i think it would, just not with this size loop.
what does 78 delaware mean?
That was my 11 meter quote unquote call sign. Derived from my old cb license KAHS 8178 FROM 1977.
Now my armature call is KC3OBQ
@@gregoryburbage7906 That makes sense.
10, 11, 12, but mostly 11m freeband....it will tune from middle of 18mhz through 30mhz.
for 40 meters you would use 3/4 of the length of a quarter wave for 40, so take 40 meter quarter wave length and use 3/4 of that length. 73
Will this work on 20 as well? My sight isn't the best, can you give the lenght of the tubing? tnx

Too bad, i'm in a ground floor apartment and i dont think it work in horizontal. Thanks for sharing.
Thank goodness I live in a home with no restrictions. I'd be suicidal.
