    I came here after listening to the audio book “ghosts of flight 401”. I didn’t realize the galley was below deck, and for a young flight attendant to be terrified to see the ghost of a dead captain while she was “in the galley” makes more sense now. She was alone on the lower level, 30,000 feet above the earth.

      I just came back too, i wanted to ask you that did the two flihht attendants experience the same thing that someone was there in this level below? When both times the two attendants were alone

    The L1011 was a legendary aircraft, just like the DC-9 and the 747.

    Amazing to see this. L1011 a frequent visitor over the years. Worked this aircraft many times loading commissary supplies in to the lower galley.
    Great, great days 🇨🇦🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    I love that the weight limit is 220 lb. These days you’d be lucky to find anyone under that

    Thanks for the tour! Air Canada's L-1011-1 was my first aircraft to fly on when I was 11 years old, between YYC and YYZ. The trip sparked my interest in aviation. I remember being fascinated with the lifts, and hung around the center service area watching them for as long as the FAs would tolerate me being there! I was hoping to get a view of the galley itself, but alas, that didn't happen.

    Thanks for this video. It answered a lot of questions. I was on a trans-Atlantic flight in the early 80's and stopped by the forward galley for a soft-drink when an FA stepped out of a lift. From the look on my face, she explained she was "the cook" from the kitchen below. She said it was the best assignment if one is organized and can remember details. Intense because it was two meal services.

    I think the DC 10 had this option also kitchen down stairs so more passengers up stairs or kitchen up stairs and mor cargo down stairs

    So under normal circumstances do personnel use the lifts? If not, how to they move between decks?

    • @flyc3
      @flyc3 9 місяців тому +1

      Yup, they were used for crew and carts.

    • @carlak1347

      Yes, under normal circumstances personnel used the lifts. But, as shown in the video, there were two ways of escape in the event a person was trapped in the lower galley.

    Clearly if you suffer from claustrophobia you could not have worked on the L-1011 or any other plane that employs that coffin size lift.

      Reminds me of the movie “Passenger 57” that was set on board a L1011 with lots of lower deck scenes. Great movie for fans of the L1011 Tristar!

      @@a.walters123 I since found out that no one rides in the lifts, there's a staircase that leads from the galley to the main cabin. There are also passenger toilets down there on the galley level too, before you get to the galley door. This allows them to squeeze more seating in on the passenger deck.
