"Betty Please" - so simple, yet so effective and still funny after all these years! We all said it for months after this episode aired. "Pick up your wienies" hahahah! Laverne throwing the spaghetti against the wall and Shirley delivering the basket in her mouth - all of it is pure comedy gold! "Betty Please"
Right? My fav episode EVER!! About 6 years ago my little girl got this play microphone w/ a speaker for her Bday & all night at the house (we had people over) I kept doing the “Betty Pick-up” routine & no one knew what I was doing 😂😂😂😂. I was cracking myself up.
Years ago, my daughter got this magic microphone, and all night I did “Betty pick-up” & nobody knew what I was doing. 😂😂😂😂 I drove them crazy. I was cracking myself up.
L&S was my favorite show as a kid. This is one of my most favorite L&S episodes. Absolutely hilarious. "Betty Pleeaase!" LOL. Physical comedy at its finest and the heir to Lucy and Ethel. Penny and Cindy were born to work together. RIP Penny Marshall. Thanks for the laughs!
Super Kyle- You are absolutely right! This is classic! I still think of “pick up your hash blacks” over the decades and it cracks me up every time!!! 😂🤣😂
I remember this episode when it was on... L&S was on its way down the tubes... but this was one of the best episodes ever. It even made TV Guides 50 Funniest TV Episodes of All Time in 1999....
OMG! This was one of my FAVORITE episodes! I STILL laugh at it! Years later, my friends and I quote the, "Betty, please, pick up your hash BLACKS!" HAHAHA!!!!! I MISS them! This was one of the best shows on TV when I was growing up!
"Betty Please" has been a catch phrase for myself and my siblings since the 70's. Our kids (and now even grandkids) don't get it...but hey we don't get Justin Bieber. :-D
iflyTony My family too. Everything in this scene in particular was quoted one way or the other “Please don’t hassle Betty” “Lucky Lucky” and our favorite...”Betty please pick up on the hash blacks”.
I remember the night this first aired. I laughed so hard I kept laughing for days after. Years later I saw that this episode was listed as a classic in some review list. for its "Betty Please Pickup."
My brother and I would say it to each other all the time. We watched this episode on reruns one day when skipping school. We used it all the time......still do once in awhile.
I loved watching this when I was a kid. They are both so funny. Unbelievable how much talent there was in the day. I can't stand to watch TV anymore. Nothing like Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, the Waltons, and Little House on the Prairie.
R.I.P Penny Marshall......Not ashamed to admit this show was a childhood favorite!!! Penny gave so much...there's no replacement for anybody in this world...Laverne and Shirley, Mary and Rhoda..Lucy and Ethel...They all were bright spots and really "must see T.V...."
Yes, HILARIOUS scene, and EPISODE, indeed! Luckily,I just happen to have the DVD set, of the 5th season(that this is from, in fact, it was one of the LAST episodes produced, during Season 5, it was like Mother's Day, or so, in 1980, when this was first broadcast.) Anyway, the "aka"title,"BETTY PLEASE!" has ALWAYS stood out in my mind, as one of the MOST HILARIOUS punch lines, from "Laverne and Shirley!" Thanks for posting!
Yes, again,"BETTY,PLEASE!" has ALWAYS stood out in my mind, as the MOST HILARIOUS line, from "Laverne and Shirley," in its ENTIRE eight-season production run! YES, :25 is simply HILARIOUS: Shirley is like,"Laverne, who's Betty?" L:"You are." S:"WHAT! Well, why are you calling me that? That's not my name!" L:"But don't you think it sounds more like diner-like talk, than "SHIRL,PLEASE?" S:"Well, I wish you'd call me by my RIGHT NAME, for God's sake!" 2:30 is another trip--Laverne:"Betty, pick up your hash BLACKS!" ROFL, all over again, as I post this comment! This gets me EVERY TIME!
This episode was so funny. I remember it when it first was on. When Laverne said “hash blacks”, I just busted out laughing. Such a classic show along side of Happy Days.
I loved this show as a kid! They were like Lucy and Ethel meets the Odd Couple! They were sooo funny and great at this type of humor- 'slap stick'! The old fashioned pie in the face kind of humor. Yes, you could say this situation seemed 'pathetic' and sad if taken seriously, but of taken as it was intended- it was hysterical! The characters knew their limitations and played it as outrageous on purpose! Gary Marshall was a genius director!
I remember watching repeats of this on late night TV in the early ninties....I'd be spaced out on my bed watching this....found it quite funny at the time.
As a little kid in the 70's as all little kids in the 70's, we've seen these a million times and they are still funny. I just had my 7 yr old son watch this clip and he can't stop laughing and wants to watch it again. The Ca episodes were ok, the best part with those is the theme. Loved how L & S kissed the Beatles at the top of the stairs when they left.
this is one of the best moments in the history of TV. Always thought the episode was called "Dead Lazlo's Place"- Put it's "The Diner"......Lucky Lucky......everyone gets pancakes.
Wow, thanks so much for posting this - I thought I was the only one who called it the Betty Please episode - lol. Of all the L&S seasons, this was absolutely my fave ep because of this season - you're awesome for posting it!!!!! Saved it to favorites!
I had a very incompetent waitress in a Bob Evans named "Betty" who actually sat down to chat and share a cup of coffee with some man in the corner of the restaurant while her orders sat, waiting to be picked up. I was sitting at my table watching her and saying "Betty please! Pick up your hash blacks!" (much to the confusion of my parents ;) ). Finally, someone in the kitchen yelled at her to pick up her order. I was cracking up when she came back to our table. Boy was she confused. XD
I now have a DVD box set of the ENTIRE SERIES--ALL EIGHT SEASONS--I was lucky enough to find it last December; it was a Xmas gift to myself, which I bought with some Xmas money. Interesting, how they have the seasons, on the box set, according to where the girls had lived in the seasons.(Seasons 1 through 5, the Milwaukee episodes, are all together on one "sub-set"in the box set, and seasons 6 thru 8, the CA episodes, on another box "sub-set.") Being the major L&S fan that I always have been, it always was my ambition to have all eight seasons, and now I do!
My best friend and I have adored these 2 brilliant women since they first aired. She's Laverne & I'm Shirley lol. Both are saddened by the loss of Penny. I'm sure we'll be able to get the set you are talking about now. I have the first 2 sets though. Great laughs, great memories!
LMFAO! Haa ha..."Get out there and get those tips!" Whooooohooo! Thanks for the upload! I was hoping I would find this. I'll never forget "Betty, please pick up" Haahaha! I'm 54 BTW hee hee.
To this day, almost 40 years later, we still do the "Pick up Betty Routine" at breakfast time. "Lucky lucky, lucky..everything comes with pancakes!". I always had a dream of opening a "Dead Lazlo's Cafe" combined with the restaurant theme Lenny and Squiggy had in an earlier episode where they wrote with crayon, people had to bring their own food, and had dog racing in the dining room after the tables were moved. We could make "wonder-bobs" with Wonder bread, and have human snack racks (I know some will remember that episode with L&S shouting, " Wienies, make me wienies" as a fire raged) I Gotta lay off the pot LOL!
I hope Penny and Cindy are having a blast reunited in Heaven!! Thanks for all of the laughs, ladies. RIP Cindy and Penny!!!!
the physical comedy between these 2 was great.
omg! flipping the pancakes with a dustpan! classic!
This is my favourite episode of Laverne and Shirley, absolutely brilliant!

Now, the show would be called RACIST, if that was said! I HATE all the PC garbage! I haven't watched TV in YEARS.
Ever imagine if Laverne & Shirley was in Lego Dimensions on 360 & PS3 in the Happy Days World
