The gentlemanly thing to do if you are forced to blow through the chicanes would be to reestablish your previous race position; not just carryon as if you earned a new position.
If you gain position during a shortcut off part of the track (including skipping a jump) is not counted. Also losing the hood is a one position penalty. So technically by the end of the race he should have been penalized two track positions.
You are correct except when I saw he also blew the bus stop I decided in the moment it didn't matter and pressed on. Not saying it was right, just saying what went through my head in the moment
Hopefully they keep count of each driver's course excursions? Number of jumps driven around should be in the long term record. Even if ya'll bet against each other, behind the scenes about that, it would keep the racing exciting.
The rule about jumps is basically it's up to the driver to decide if it's safe to jump or drive around it but they can't advance their position if they do so, the more seasoned guys will decide to drive around a jump with someone as new as fielding on their door instead of being door to door in the air the blown turn he should have fallen back in line where he was at but they do also have a penalty system in place that would cost him a spot at the finish line they also have a lose your hood rule that drops you back if your hood comes off this encourages more clean racing and to not go bulldozing into a corner although I feel like Max's hood has some extra help... I have also seen some road course they raced at that if they dropped a tire off the curb into the grass or maybe 2 tires it was a position penalty but that was not only because they didn't want the grass torn up but they were dragging junk out onto the track as a filler act at that race...
Yeah - poor course design. Not nearly the passing opportunities (excitement) as race 1. Did someone tell ya'll to take it easy on the cars? Less bumping and grinding than race 1, too.

Still great camera work!
I think the Blue knob to your left is brake bias.
Yes it is!
What's up with that Orange truck @13:05 passing all yall under caution and jumping back in way in front of you?
He pushed the jump back & then returned to his position. Robbie Gordon’s truck
He was repositioning the jump to make a better braking zone for the hairpin
LOL Diesel Dave is color blind, i think. Rubing is racing. 🤣😂
Reach out for your package ☝️
Bloodbath is right. Still, so awesome.
Everyone's a better driver when the hood delete is activated..
