- Swatch, review and Art Nouveau style painting for 12 half pan "water colour pocket box". I compare these to Paul Rubens and Coliro Finetec shiny metallic gold, bronze, silver and shimmer pearl paints. ↓ SHOW MORE for supplies and other info! ↓
Thorough first look at these colors by Royal Talens, the makers of "Rembrandt" (professional) and "Van Gogh" (high-end light-fast student paints) newly released to the USA in 2019. Comes in a high quality unique plastic travel palette with brush! Creates a Gustav Klimt style vibe without the tedious effort of gold leaf metal gilding. I primarily create watercolor artwork, rubber stamping projects and DIY jewelry using alcohol ink or polymer clay molds. I test pens, pencils, paints or inks in my drawing and painting art supply reviews with color swatches and pigment information. Lightfast testing is done for all of the supplies I use, and I report fugitive fading color issues. Sound fun? Please consider subscribing so I know I should keep doing this :)

Kindest thanks in the world for this….and you are an exceptional artist. Very well thought out video, much appreciated 😮😅😊
I had this for a year, and today I finally found the paper I’m that is why I’m rewatching this video. I’m not good at painting they are just for fun.
You shade and shadow flawlessly.
Thanks for all the info. You answered my questions about how the Van Gogh metallic/interference colors compare to Finetec. Beautiful illustration! I can't wait until my paints arrive.
Stunning final image!
I have to say that just switched out, these were not what I was looking for, but when you used them in your painting, I was very impressed! Thank you for sharing
Right?! I love how she uses the silver for highlights, and the copper for sparkle in her eyes❣︎
You may also find inspiration in ways to use these sparkling colors from "Her Billowing Heart" here on UA-cam. She creates such beautiful mixes:)
I'm getting strong Art Nouveau vibes from your demo piece and love it 🥰 (it's among my favourite periods in art history :3) I got this set as well, but other than playing/doodling aronson black watercolour paper, I haven't done much with them yet. Will definitely have to dig them up again and do something with. We're going into partial lockdown next week, anyway, so I got even more time - aside from work and household chores - to get creative ^^'
I love how you use these watercolors in your nib pen, gorgeous!✨
Nice review! Also I just want that black pallet, it’s really nice!
Thank you, and I know what you mean, I'm going to keep this case forever it's so nice :)
Quite stunning! Will have to try these!
Yes, I love the Van Gogh metallic colors. They are much more affordable than the Rembrandt ones and are very beautiful :)
This is so beautiful! i was thinking bout getting finetec, cuz these colors are on the market for ages and always loved by everyone, after noticing a few days ago that van Gogh has some nice pearlies too, im actually so glad! i actually used van gogh for a year now, learning aquarel! so i trust them, may i try to buy one, even if they re a bit expensive ahh :x
Thank you :) I love them both for different reasons. Finetec / Coliro has reallllly sparkly paints, some of their colors are more reflective than the Van Gogh (like their "arabic gold" color which is a very shiny pretty gold)....BUT Van Gogh offers such a nice variety in this set. I find that unless you just buy only your favorite individual colors from Finetec / Coliro, it's harder to find a set that has the right combination of colors.
@@KimberlyCrick Jup. thats another problem. different brands make different quality! also the different outcome of the colors itself..
I guess ill try them all in the end!
:D
@@KimberlyCrick Can you tell me about the lightfastness of the Finetec?
@@edekker1625 Finetec / coliro have a lot of lightfast options, but as time goes on they are adding more and more "vibrant" "neon" and "flip flop" colors, which are fugitive. I can no longer say comprehensively that all of their colors are lightfast, however the ones they started out with for years were very lightfast. All of the golds/silver/pearl/copper and even the pink/apple green/peacock blue in the coliro "candy" set of 6 are lightfast. In general you will always have better luck with the standard metallics (gold/silver) instead of colorful (pinks/greens) in most brands. Interference colors tend to be lightfast too (the transparent ones that just gently shine a color in certain light/on black, like those in the Van Gogh pocket box).
Thank you for the review. I was very curious about this set! They look so gorgeous and I like that they are in half fans.
Oh my gosh. I want these!! They may not have underlying colours but sometimes thats all we need in paintings - just that extra sparkle. Your photos and scans make them look so darn beautiful. I also love the piece you did at the end - it was definitely a great way to show off the sparkles. I have the normal van gogh palette in the same packaging but white and I love how compact and small it is but still durable. Do you know when this palette was release or when it will be more widespread?
They haven't announced the pan sets on their channel yet. I think this just came out at the start of 2019 (and only arrived here late February) but you just have to see all the new colors they are working on. The tubes for these metallics (so happy to be able to refill these pans), a new granulating black and some dusk colors all have videos at ua-cam.com/users/RoyalTalensvideos and they said they were released as of "autumn 2018". The quin purple-red and dusk green are calling my name. I left comments asking on their videos, and other artists in Netherlands and Germany have told me they found them in local art stores. So far, just this pan set and their new black watercolor paper made it over to the USA. I will definitely make another video when I can find the tubes, I can't imagine it will be too much longer :)
@@KimberlyCrick Wow! Thankyou for the info!! This is really helpful and .. probably will add a lot of stuff to my wishlist XD
Beautiful work
Can you please tell me the colour used in the nib pen at 3.00 that you did the scrolls with? This was a great tutorial, thank you.
Thank you, the color is Van Gogh's #811 - Bronze :)
I love this😍 can be mixed with a non-metallic color? for example when I mix purple and silver, can I get metallic purple?
Yes and it is gorgeous, but the shiny glitter becomes less noticeable the more you mix it with another color. I really love them most for layering on top of other colors, but the gold and silver especially look great mixed into normal non glitter paints :)
Kimberly Crick Art Thank you very much🤩
What's the best (lightfast, non-fading) glitter watercolor paint to buy? Is Finetec suitable for watercolor as it appears very opaque? Thanks in advance for your response =)
The Van Gogh Metallic and Interference Pocket box, or the individual tubes, are one of the most affordable and highly lightfast options. In general, I do not like to use mica based watercolor mixed with other colors, but rather as an opaque accent area or highlight. All metallic watercolors are opaque to a certain degree, which is easily noticed when the particles (and reflective shine) increases like Coliro / Finetec brand. For the most part almost any brands standard metallics will be lightfast (gold, silver, copper, bronze), it's usually only when you get into colorful pearlescent colors (shimmer pinks, greens, purples, blues) where they start to have fading issues. Happy painting :)
@@KimberlyCrick that is very helpful, thanks voor your response 🙂
Wow hun
Are the colors also available in Rembrant?
Yes, but I did not find the quality difference to be worth the price gap - if you happen to be able to find Van Gogh for cheaper to your area. Happy painting :)
@@KimberlyCrick Thanks the Van Gogh set looks pretty good to me. Wasnt sure how much of a difference there is.
Really beatiful but expensive in Turkey
Are there refills for this pallette?
Yes, you can buy individual half pans to swap out, or you can be very economical and use a tube paint to refill the pans. I usually buy my refills here www.dickblick.com/products/van-gogh-watercolors-and-sets/
Is mica dangerous 🥺🥺
Not at all, it's a non-toxic natural white flakey mineral that is what eyeshadow and makeup products are made from so safe enough to put on your skin. Even the synthetic man-made reproductions of mica are typically safe for skin use, so in paint it's realllllyyy safe :D
