Adam Ondra #5: Tokyo Training Trip 1/2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 бер 2019
- Bouldering on the competitions is getting more and more different compared to outdoor climbing or "old school" competition style and it is getting progressively more difficult to train for it. I set on a pilgrimage to a city where some of the best "new school" boulderers live and train - Tokyo.

Adam Ondra - the type of guy to chalk up for subway holds
The other night I found myself crimping my bed headboard while trying to sleep.lol
@@farmerdave4000 ultimate workout!
I usually toehook the end of the mattress when I can't sleep
He climbs so much that his hands just naturally produce chalk
@@dylanmilne2762 funny enough, his hands are so dry, I saw him during some competitions to wet his fingertips in water before chalking up.
@@panda4247 Probably using a lot of antihydrol. Which is fair enough.
I don't know much about climbing, but so far all the pro climbers I've seen have been ultra chill, friendly and humble people, regardless of their incredible achievements... I've never climbed a wall in my life yet I'm drawn to these amazing, unique human beings...
Adam climbed a wall called "silence". Him going up there was the complete opposite of that, his power-screams are legenndary
@WungusBill that isn't his person as a whole tho. That's when he is ultra focused and massively driven to do what he is doing.
Incredibly humbling. It is rare to see a jetlagged Ondra "get his ass kicked" (6:25). Top notch video, awesome editing and Ondra's monologue was great.
You should go to Norway to climb with Magnus Midtbo. Would be interesting collab.
it would make dreams a reality. and plus Magnus is really big into training so it would work...
Ondra is training for the world cup and Magnus, while still strong and athletic doesn't compete anymore so it wouldn't really benefit either of them.
he needs to hit Dai Koyamada up. He is a legend.
He did but they ended up not climbing anything due to the bad weather.
@@johnnysmith1922 that was Alex honnold not adam ondra
I've never went rock climbing before..I live an Alberta, Canada close to the mountains and love nature. You have inspired me to take the jump! I'm going rock climbing tomorrow.
zach good luck buddy, you’re gonna love it! It’s not gonna be easy but with dedication you’ll make it ;)
zach BC has World Class Climbing with the Smokes, Chief, Squamish. Peter Croft (from my era) was & is a true beast. As good a place to learn climbing as any ... beware though; it’s quite addicting & there’s a great probability that if you like it, Climbing WILL CHANGE Your life
Noiceeeeee
Feels good to see that even legends struggle sometimes
Superb video as always ! Wish you the best for the season !
Awesome video, thanks! We all can learn from you especially while you're learning something new! Love your humility.
So humble! Incredible video, story, editing, script.... I can not absolutely understand how it’s that this has just 700’s likes, that’s an insult!!! Please Adam keep sharing with all of us despite that fact. Greetings from Spain! (MADRID)
It is inspiring to see you feel humble. Immense wisdom, thanks for sharing
As someone who edits a weekly vlog for a footballer, I can really appreciate the style. This is almost like a mini-docu series and I'm really enjoying this journey to Tokyo Olympics. Great work Adam and the super team behind you who are documenting this brand new Olympic discipline concept for climbers. Also, I'm studying at Loughborough University in the UK they have just opened an altitude hotel facility which actually hopes to look at and study the affects of jet-lag for British Olympic athletes, in the hopes that they can limit the effects of travel that you are experiencing!!
you are so incredible ! you motivate me every time i climb ! thank you so much
thank you for making these videos, its really interesting and you are always so good to watch :)
Adam, you always do a killer job, but your video team is also incredible. Such good content🙏
Adam you’re so casual just riding the metro, tired as crazy from the flight and just go learn to fly haha great spirit! Other sport celebs make a whole show from the travel thing. Busses limo’s flashlights all over. There goes Adam just the little bunch in the metro. Hope to meet you at a crag someday, take care and climb hard
Really enjoying this series
you are living the dream Adam!
You're such an inspiration Adam, keep up the awesome videos. I hope that one day I can reach close to your level ✌🏼
4:46 this is always my face when I watch Adam climb lol
Get job trapping flies.
Haha B-Pump Ogikubo surely has the power to make you feel weak, but the teaching you get is priceless !
Very high quality filmmaking! Thanks for sharing your journey!
Awesome video, love the journey and those spots look killer! Soak it all in and good luck to you Adam! One love.
dude, the food! The food alone is already reason enough to go to japan *_* The food! i‘m telling you!
Please give us more of these great videos!!
They will keep coming every Monday till the Olympics
Awsome material!! 👍
Seems like you're in the right place then Adam :)
Can't imagine trying hard while jet-lagged though!
Good luck and have fun out there! Japan seems to be such an amazing country, would love to go there sometime!
Everytime I boulder, I suddenly scream to the top of my lungs thanks to adam 😂
I love you, Adam.
4:14 future world champion right there
I was at Ogikubo on that day, you can see my girlfriend sitting behind Adam in one of the shots. It was so surreal seeing you walk into the locker room while I was there. Good seeing you around.
Welcome to Japan!! It’s sad that Adam Ondra was sick on the day of The North Face competition.... Hope I’ll see him in Olympics!
For some reason it was very satisfying to see Adam failing. This is how 9 out of 10 sessions of mine look like. Feel much better now indeed.
Awesome vlog.
Work hard man! Go crush it ! :)
you're just amazing
Hell yea dude!! stay humble
I like the intro
Great! What a good role model flying around the globe for a training.
Greta says: "good job Adam saving the world!"
I love Adam Ondra, but yeah. Athletes have huge carbon footprints due to competition. This one is kind of tricky, but it sucks how difficult it is to travel sustainably.
@@althea145 This is something we are looking into and hopefully will have something to negate that soon
@@AdamOndra That's great! I wasn't trying to attack you or anything, just trying to express my frustrations with these issues. I'm sorry if it came across that way.
Nice vid!
What makes the japanese gym routes so difficult compared to other gyms?
(asked by someone who climbs a 5+ on his "good day")
Climbing is a popular sport here, so lot of good climbers the gym needs to cater to.
Also walls packed with holds changed on a regular basis means small gyms packed with routes for different climbing styles and ability.
didnt know tokyo had so many compstyle boulders, that's awesome
Top content
I love Adam saying Japan is a totally different culture while eating and walking (which is considered rude in Japan). :P
fuck just saw you beat me to it lol
Interesting why is that?
@@LukeRockCimber Not sure exactly why, but I live in Tokyo and I'm glad people don't pull out a sandwich and start munching away when the train is super packed and I can feel people's breathe on my neck.
@@LukeRockCimber i think it's two things: 1. hygiene (food while walking gets spilled) 2. respecting the food (and who made it, etc)
I’m Japanese and I think basically no problem, but eating while walking was considered bad manners for Japanese even just a decade ago.
So, some older people might feel bad.
But young generation don’t think so.
Recently there is TABE-ARUKI culture means eating while strolling.
They probably just sandbagged all the grades by a few grades just to mess with him haha
very cool
Yeah ! Tokyo is a good spot to find athletes. Japaneses are very explosive !
Adam is good boy❤
:) just road to the dream.
when i top my v2 and im super happy i want every1 in the gym to be like yoooo, nice fist bump, and just have a wall of fists great me as i fall to the mat.
How many times have you climbed moonboard. I love this channel
sick
When you touched the climbing wall you was like Ahhhh finaly
Gotta love first clip he's walking and eating which is pretty much illegal in Japan
Today I learned japan is a different culture
Everyone knows Adam is the real daddylongneck
can someone please help me and tell me where to find the second song?? i believe its called ryokosan - entanglement. but i am not able to find it anywhere...its driving me crazy!
the one that starts at 1:55...either they spelled it the wrong way at the end of the video, or the guy is a ghost?!
REEEEEE
The national culture is to try hard, to think how to improve, and to contribute to the whole group improving. They campus with heavy weights attached.
4:55 pretty sure Adam thought he can go super saiyan in Japan
Did you also Climbing at Rock?
So sad i wasnt into climbing when i lived in tokyo :S But nvm that, im doing it now!
1:55 Indian music?
seth white que música es??
No, Japanese music "Soran-bushi"
What country will he be climbing for?
Czech Republic
Never boarded a plane other than for climbing and competition. This time I'm... training for climbing. Huuuge difference hahha
does anyone know if he kept his shirt on because of Japanese culture?
It’s calm!?!? You don’t know why that is. It’s because you are training!!! Nobody make a noise to interfere with your training...
When do you learn to speedclimb?
Isnt speed the Main discipline that you have to get better?
You are already one of the best boulderer/lead climber in the world, If Not the best.
Hit up Dai Koyamada and jam with him.
Adam Ondra: climbs
Japanese People: ohahhh ahhhhh uhhh wwooohhh
▪Hello
Weird to see Adam climb in an artificial environment.
I'm glad to see everyone gets their ass kicked in Ogikubo. I suck there!
Nice video, but in Japan you shouldn't eat on the streets - 0:42
Why?
@@su141 it's considered rude
Cinematography and storytelling were great in this one, great video.
instead of Tokyo, I made a Joshua tree video that needs
some feedback from the community!
thank you love u all!
Nah mate
I know it is a sort of black humor, but it would be funny if in the train suddenly make a break and everybody falls, only Adam keeps holding the bars.
Really ?registration for Adam like you don't f know who he is at a climbing gym?
Please don't eat fugu!

It is very rude to talk on the subway Adam. Especially if you aren't whispering.
How many Japanese girls did he put in his bed in one night?
Gotta love the partially racist music
