I was heartbroken as a kid when I first saw Alien 3, I loved Hicks and Newt, I wanted them to go on more adventures with Ripley kicking Xeno butt. As an adult, I respect the way they went with the movie, despite the development hell it went through, I think we got something special.
Why? Why the innocent punished? Why the sacrifice? Why the pain? There aren’t any promises. Nothing certain. Only that some get called, some get saved. She won’t ever know the hardship and grief for those of us left behind. We commit these bodies to the void, with a glad heart. For within each seed, there is a promise of a flower, and within each death, no matter how small, there’s always a new life. A new beginning. Amen.
30 years old Despite this movie plagued with many problems you can’t deny Goldenthal’s operatic score This past especially having Ripley say goodbye to Newt and Hicks while at the same time the alien being born to wreak havoc
Yeah isn't it strange how the idea sounds offensive on paper, to those who adored the happy ending of Aliens, along with the characters themselves of Newt and Hicks. Myself included. When I was younger, I was initially saddened greatly by this, but found something tremendously compelling about the choice to kill them off and ultimately respected it. Upon subsequent viewings, I understand it more and more every time. It's a perfect way to get Sigourney Weaver's acting strengths on full display, and the dark tone set. The score actually ties all of these elements together in a phenomenally brilliant way for such a troubled production. This cremation scene is one of those moments where you forget there was problems in the production and it feels totally complete, and competent.
This soundtrack is criminally underrated
My go to Halloween 🎃 ambience!
Like the movie my friend, just like the movie....

One of the most wonderful pieces in film score history
Such a mean spirited movie and I say that with love.
Masterpiece.
Simply amazing. Has the best score without a doubt. This is so baroque. Profoundly breathtaking. The Crescendo at 2:38 is stupendous!
And the clustered vocals starting at 3:08 - just chilling.
Still very heartbreaking
Not only newt is officially gone but so is the dog
And the freaking alien still lives again
1:59 so eerie and forbidding
There's always a new life
I loved the film.
It makes me want to cry as the bodies of newt and hicks fall into the furnace, the music etc
This soundtrack slaps after all these years
Great soundtrack :) It gets an A+
The same composer as pet sematary
And Demolition Man.
