And he had the nerve to blame it on Dollar Tree because they bought out Family Dollar 😂 If anything, that helped out Dollar Tree because they are now able to finally have name branded items and food vs the off branded products. And people still want to complain about a .25 cent difference 😂🙄🙄 Side note- Don't get me wrong, they still have off branded food and items.
I know in my local dollar generals ,the one in the hood has merchandise thrown all over the floor by the lovely patrons. The scaled down employees can’t keep up with theft and restocking problems
Notice they said they were closing because stores were "underperforming." This term is often used to mean that the theft is rampant and is destroying the ability of the store to be profitable. They didn't even mention it in their discussion. Other videos about stores closing focus on it as the reason for the stores closing. Since they didn't even bring it up, it is impossible to know exactly why they are closing so many stores. They just said they are doing that, and are leaving you to guess why they are doing it.
Dollar tree is a good store for handy, disposable things that you need but dont want to spend money on - like Tupperware, paper towels, paper napkins, cleaning cloths, kid's coloring books, shelf liners etc.. and $1 is about right -- Although I notice that now they are selling a lot of things for $5 which is way out of their target marketing niche. I have only been into one Family Dollar store and it was the most horrible, depressing store and the prices were the same as any other store. I know people buy food in these stores, but that is the last thing I would buy there. The other thing is that people need to pay attention to what the real price is for a product in these stores because sometimes it ends up being more expensive than a regular store.
As far as some items being more expensive, well, it depends. If you take into consideration having or getting transportation to a big box store, maybe the local place where you can walk or bike is more doable. Many of the FD customers are elderly and poor in my area. Also, the ugly games that Walmart plays at the self-checkout is off putting.
I already STOPPED shopping at CHINA 🌳 TREE after they RAISED 💲 PRICES from $1.00 to $1.25! WHO got a 25% INCREASE with their PAYCHECK to cover this INCREASE? It's NOT just 25-CENTS more ... I would often buy DOZENS of items for the house with each visit but no longer!! Too, CRAFTERS often purchase HUNDREDS of items at a time ... IMAGINE that PRICE INCREASE 😡
I don’t know about that. I really like their balloons, greeting cards, kitchen and cleaning supplies, tools, and toiletry items. I feel like I get good value
What happened is they raised their prices, and with that, they stopped selling a lot of items that actually was the big sellers in the store, and let's not forget in some of the stores, almost all the shelves are empty for weeks on end. So you have to go almost everyday to hope and get some items when they put out the little they do stock on the shelves. The problem also is, when they do close some stores, they always close the one's that actually have their shelves stocked and keep open the stores that are always empty. They need to actually go and see for themselves which stores are empty for a week, those are the stores that need to go. And for the employees that are working by themselves, this comment doesn't reflect you, which is another point, they need to hire more people. At least two or more for the floor work and and two or more for the registers. Having one employee trying to do both is not working.
Yeah, they stopped carrying the TGIF potato skin chips which were an awesome value and hunts ketchup the bottle shrank but the price went up. I still shop there, there bags of ice are a good deal too. Sad to see them closing
um that would involve work on coporates part, they are only interested in bottom line, profits! they have no idea what works in 1 store may not work in another, the whole problem in corporations IMO, been in retail over 30 yrs.
I like my Dollar Tree in Utica and Shelby Twp. mI. They try to help you find items and answer questions as best as they can. As for stock and prices, everything everywhere has gone up. Even McDonalds.
Family Dollar is a junk store. Old expired open box items are everywhere. No sense of order and stuff just thrown all over the place. Boxes in the aisles just males it uncomfortable to shop there. Dollar Tree lost its appeal when the prices were raised to $1.25.
Their stuff is not $1. I am not going into dollar tree spending $5 on one item. Bogus. They lose their identity and the worthy of their name. If I am gonna spend $5 on an item, I would have gone to walmart. If I am willing to pay $10, then I go costco.
It makes me think Dollar Tree acquired Family Dollar from the beginning, just so they could close down some of their competition. I think that should be investigated by the U.S. government.
Their stores are so labor intensive getting products on the shelf. Even more than fast food, they are so at the mercy of a tight labor market and rising wages. Placing items on shelves by hand that are then sold for $1.25 is not going to happen in areas where fast food is paying $15hr.
My local Dollar Tree (Jackson Wyoming) is closing in August. Simply stated that DT chose not to renew the lease. Whatever. It can't be due to lack of business. The area is a tourist Hotspot (Yellowstone , GTNP) , and the place is always packed , with tourists needing toiletries , bug spray , water , etc. If this location is going belly-up , the entire corporation must be on very shaky ground.
Serves them right for getting greedy and raising prices for cheap Chinese stuff, and lowering the quantity. It used to be you knew exactly how many things you can get and if you had $10 you knew you can still get some food for a few days to hold you over, now you get 4 items for $5 and you get a lot less in the packaging. It was always a toss up for me because many items were cheaper at walmart. Ajax to clean your tub was a $1 at the tree but 89 cents at walmart same with dish liquid cheaper at walmart and so many more things. Now they don't even have my fav sponge on a stick to reach into deep jars and glasses, they haven't had it for almost 8 months now, so I really have no reason to go there, plus they never have cute colors it's always ugly colors like gray green black dark blue, yuck, for their baskets and stuff. I can stomach $1 for something I will use and throw out but now things add up and you get less and less. Id rather spend a buck or two more and get something better and more.
High inflation is what caused these stores to downsize. These stores have to pay leases also. We already seem that in other major companies besides these dollars stores going bankrupt or downsizing. As long as these current interest rates remain where they are, more companies will down the same path.
They started to decline when they added .25+ cents on the “Dollar”. What always set them apart was their price was guaranteed to be less than $1.00. 😐 Greed is not always advantageous.
Believe it or not, I find better prices at Dollar General. They have a Dollar aisle and it’s fantastic and it’s a true $1.00 aisle. Dollar tree screwed up once they changedtheir price structure because now since they’ve allowed three and five dollar items all the $1.00 items that went to $1.25 are slowly crawling up to $2.00 in the store and you don’t see it unless you’re in there. The products have also changed. You can’t get what you used to get in the store for $1.00 because they can’t buy it at a 50% purchase any longer. It’s very sad, but the merchandising in a nutshell is falling to hell and who feels it the consumer as always.
They was only charging a dollar. They went up 25 cents. How can that hurt anyone when you pay double or triple in the store get real..only 25 cent more..
1. Too many “dollar stores” and half of them owned by ONE FAMILY. 2. Too many of them are in really terrible areas and hire terrible staff. 3. The prices went from $0.99 to $1.25-$1.99
People really don't understand how this all works 🤣 purchase a company "close" stores stock drops, they aren't closing them. Turning them into new dollar stores and stocks go back up. Exactly what Dollar general did.
Too many dollar stores period ... And they only put a bunch of dollar stores on the rough side of town or in some rural part of the county. They pray on the poor ... So it sounds like karma to me ...
@anthonytaylor7928 nawl ... I want you to go to the suburbs and count how many dollar stores there are and then turn around and go to the hood and see how many dollar stores locations I guarantee you the hood got twice as many ... See you're fine and dandy when you got a variety of dollar stores and other retail outlets. But when you're only surrounded by gas stations and dollar stores and liquor stores and it's a dollar store every other mile there something up with that And it may not be in your neck woods but in my part of the country, in my city, I see it.I see the difference between the urban areas and the suburban areas I don't need 4 Family Dollar stores and 3 general dollar stores within a 3 mile radius. All that shit is high. You might as well go to Walmart LOL
I won't shop at any store that won't allow the cart to unload at the vehicle. They may as well remove the carts completely and just offer baskets. Not worth my time.
clearly NEITHER OF THESE TOOLS HAVE BEEN IN A DOLLAR TREE. Most stores are not in a rural food desert, they are in busy suburbs and cities. The stores are chaos. Understaffed. New higher priced sections that make no sense. . Empty shelves and refrigerators. Neither of these tools get it.
I recently went into the Dollar Tree to get my son a pint of ice cream and when i went to the register was shocked to hear it was now $5 instead of $1. What?????
I can only speak from the corporate side. I owned a shopping center in Nevada that had a Dollar Tree as a tenant. They are the absolute worst tenant in my 15 years of investments. It was literal hell, and the corporate turnover was dizzying. They simply refuse to comply with commercial leases. I sold the property late last year solely because I wanted to stop doing business with them. Never again would I ever allow a dollar store to be a tenant in any property I own.
What nobody hardly mentions is that all these various dollar stores chains have escalated a saturation of retail location volume beyond imaginable proportions to become their own worst enemy and precipitating the consequential fallout.
Also government funding is being cut. The truth of the matter is that many stores are not satisfying customer service requirements. I hope that finally only stores that are performing well in offering great customer service and have competitive prices will survive.
“Family Dollar is a victim of the macro environment out there,” Chief Executive Rick Dreiling said Wednesday, citing still-accelerating levels of *inventory loss and theft* . “But again, I come back to a well-run Family Dollar is a very, very powerful retail format.”
Their managers(at least near me) are about as friendly as a bad headache He never says hi or excuse me or smiles Or asked if the customers are finding everything okay. He just wanders around with headphones listening to music. All that while every aisle has at least 1, usually 2 carts full of merchandise blocking the shelves. It reminds me of the old kmart store. Its pathetic.
Don't believe the hype people... they made $28 BILLION in 2023 and are set too take in $30 BILLION this year. They pay their employees CRAP but the big wigs take home insane bonuses. They've been in the media lately for being supremely understaffed and poorly maintained. John Oliver just spoke about this last week...
Altman Z-score in the first years of Family Dollar - was roughly 4.13. Now it is down to a 0.83 average! Anything 1.00 or lower in the Altman Z-score means the permanent shuddering of a retail chain or business chain of stores!!!!!
Hi I go to dollar tree 2 times a week at least. One thing that bothered me is when all item went up by a quarter . They should of ketp it a tradition to keep it old style . The greed from the corporation is making break their own rules. I worked in places were a quarter in certain hoods . Could of kept someone from eating. They are getting more and more greedy. The world is sick
Sad for those Dollar General Stores now come to close all their stores. When sex hard drugs put in all food/drinks in 7/2021, I was devastated due to I could sense the drugs in food, use things, I couldn't eat them. Good thing, I went to 5 of those stores in Vero, Melbourne, mostly in Sebastian, plus few Chinese grocery stores in Orlando, Melbourne, spent $ thousands of dolars buying those date-old food, otherwise, I would stave to dead by evil Blacks who stealing treasure, bribe all, hired Latina drugs leads & create sex hard drugs worldwide, as of today, still going on, Latian drugs leads now stealing as much as Blacks on empty $ from US, the taxpayers, but all gov officials all took bribery, nobody wants to investigate, sad, for bribery, sold your country, but fake fight to dead two parties???? Thank you, General Dollar Stores for saving me when I need you. I was in very critical conditions for those few years, even set at my car park in Walmart outside eat rice/noodle soup for my lunch/dinner when I was working, no meat, only half bag of rice that last me for a year, even rice, soy-source, salt all have sex hard drugs, damn, evil people!!
most of the stores are completely hideously run from the corporate level. There’s only ever two employees seen at the Dollar General. They can never keep up with the mess and organization of the place. There’s no remodeling of the stores they look and feel 20 to 30 years old. There’s a cheap factor which is both good and bad and I know that the dollar trees for the most part are not complete and utter obstacle course. I’ve tripped inside one of them before. It makes it extremely uncomfortable to shop at.
Ps there 16.000 store in the u,s,a and closing 1000 of them sounds like a Theft problem to me An poor Management. Sad to see this BUT IT HAPPENS ALL OVER THIS COUNTRY BUSINES ARE GOING UNDER BECAUSE OF LIKE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT. COUNTRY IS NEXT GOD BLESS YOU ALL😢❤❤❤❤
1 checker and raising their prices! The store I have to use is a mess. They never have the store stocked. 😢😢😢. I don’t think it is all about the income level. We are high middle income. 😢
I can tell you why the stores are under performing. Where do I begin? One corporate is a moron. Two they don’t care about their employees. I had to undergo bereavement because my father passed away. They basically told me they didn’t care. It wasn’t the manager that said that it was corporate. 3 they treat they’re good managers like garbage I’ve witnessed this. They had my store manager, which is a excellent manager working 90 hours a week she was getting absolutely no help from corporate when she asked them if she could schedule more help she was getting paid just a little bit more not by much than us and in fact, if corporate would’ve let us any other employees would’ve been able to make more than she did. She’s been shot maced she’s gotten assaulted and then when we asked for security, they hired an agency where we have to call when there’s something going down and they have to drive all the way across town. What’s the point dollar tree has failed. The public on their promise has failed their employees consistently and their managers. In fact when I heard how much my manager was making salary, I called her a poor bastard. I told her straightforward that she got screwed in fact, it was so bad. She actually took a demotion and came out ahead somewhat so if you ask me, they had it coming.
This is why the shelves have been empty and it’s such a shame companies get greedy and take on more than they can chew dollar tree was my favorite place over family dollar and the shelves have been not stocked for many months. Such essentials like Tylenol Benadryl and pads etc have been out of stock and the stores always state it’s a corporate issue and the shelves aren’t stocked becuz the company wasn’t able to make anymore deals having product sold in their stores
Failure Management! Corporate Greed! Price Gouging! Family Dollar raised their prices allot and sell smaller pkgs! Dollar Tree raised their $1. cost promise to $1.25, only have 2 employee's working and shelves aren't kept stocked or in the right locations of the store. I know these are the reasons i don't bother to shop at either for the last 2 yrs.

A store by that name closed, I think within a year after making customers put backpacks in lockers, where they can be forgotten causing long trips back to retrieve them or opening of lockers after closing with them being opened or lost. And I have seen that with other stores by other big names go not long after making that change, in fact one small sized store closed in a location some few miles from a bigger one under the same name remaining open several years to now where customers continued to wear backpacks. More recently, another store which may be a much smaller name or family owned had closed and sold early this year after last summer telling customers to leave backpacks by the front door where these can be stolen by other people. I am curious when stores' staff and their bully rent-a-cops will tell me to leave my socks and pockets in lockers and unprotected entryway areas. Those littler spaces are easier to load with products and with several trips one can steal a lot of money's worth if not caught just by loading those smaller spaces. I tried at my home and in friends' places to load my backpack with things to prove if I can do it or not. I couldn't do that while wearing it and by taking it off, that was quite the obvious moves. So, I tell store staff 'If I take the backpack off, you are welcome to empty and search it before I leave, otherwise it stays on me, I'll shop with that on, my socks on and my pockets on or I'll not shop here, oh, and you'll close up shop soon.' and some stores' staff or managers agree to let me through because that makes sense, and I don't get searched. What a good feeling it is to exit a store with their products and their receipts in hand, without first putting up a fight to freely do that. 😊 Is there a downward trend in sales and more chance of stores closing where customers have to separate from their backpacks and personal items while shopping? I've seen it many times over my lifetime, I believe that's the end-in-site for many big name locations and whole big name businesses and small stores.
Where did they got wrong??? Start with zero customer service, unkempt, understaffed, understocked, stores. Fix that and you will have lines out the door.

Great, I forgot a purchase there and never get it back, I was thinking of going there and take it back, but am a softie
And he had the nerve to blame it on Dollar Tree because they bought out Family Dollar 😂
If anything, that helped out Dollar Tree because they are now able to finally have name branded items and food vs the off branded products.
And people still want to complain about a .25 cent difference 😂🙄🙄
Side note- Don't get me wrong, they still have off branded food and items.
Wasn't it Family Dollar that was sued for having disgusting warehouses full of rats ? That will put a hole in their profits.
thats dollar general but im sure they do the same shit too
They were fined $10M+ dollars. So..yeah, that would do some damage.
@@i.03983no it was family dollar
I personally had to show the manager of my local family dollar Rat droppings and chewed clothing they had hung up to sell.
Surprise, raising prices ran off their customer base.
I saw some customers took things and left without paying and it is very saddening .
"customers" lol
It’s not worth the life and wage of a worker to stop thief stealing a few dollars worth of items. The ultimate thieves beginner store to steal at.
People _think_ they save money at these stores. When they’re actually paying a lot more based on sizes.
That is what some people can afford month to month. This is not by choice. Shoppers are not stupid.
As long as my brain thinks "you're gettin' a good deal," I'm good.
@@rykie6278 😂
As far as some items being more expensive, well, it depends. If you take into consideration having or getting transportation to a big box store, maybe the local place where you can walk or bike is more doable. Many of the FD customers are elderly and poor in my area. Also, the ugly games that Walmart plays at the self-checkout is off putting.
Dollar tree to $1.25, now moving to $1.75 they lose my business. Barely shop when they when raised to $1.25
but if they are selling a product for 1.75 that everywhere else wants 5 bucks for then its still a good deal .
Its actually more expensive to buy a lot of things at these places, when you actually calculate cost per serving.
That is true. You really have to look at what you are buying.
Yep
@anastasia10017 yasssssssssss
I don’t know about that. I really like their balloons, greeting cards, kitchen and cleaning supplies, tools, and toiletry items. I feel like I get good value
I learned more from reading the comments than I did from the actual video itself
This store is needed. This is just BS.
Having one employee trying to do both is not working.
agree thats the worst bagging job. spend $50 scan and bag 50 items
And If I'm willing to pay $20 I go to my nearest strip club.
@@VaunXoxlmao Vaun you and me boff be sitting by the poles on our lunch break
It makes me think Dollar Tree acquired Family Dollar from the beginning, just so they could close down some of their competition. I think that should be investigated by the U.S. government.
Their stores are so labor intensive getting products on the shelf. Even more than fast food, they are so at the mercy of a tight labor market and rising wages. Placing items on shelves by hand that are then sold for $1.25 is not going to happen in areas where fast food is paying $15hr.
one word: CRIME
one word: USED CONDOMS
My local Dollar Tree (Jackson Wyoming) is closing in August.
Simply stated that DT chose not to renew the lease.
Whatever.
It can't be due to lack of business. The area is a tourist Hotspot (Yellowstone , GTNP) , and the place is always packed , with tourists needing toiletries , bug spray , water , etc.
If this location is going belly-up , the entire corporation must be on very shaky ground.
We have a combination Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store in our town. I wish it was just Dollar Tree.
So, they can’t make the business work even if they are the only store in town?
The best analysis, yet so many people with fat paychecks can’t seem to pinpoint.
Means the only store getting ransacked, in some cases...

Dollar General will probably open stores in
some of those communities.
Wal mart comes in cheaper on many items, the 1.25 hurt them
They started to decline when they added .25+ cents on the “Dollar”. What always set them apart was their price was guaranteed to be less than $1.00. 😐 Greed is not always advantageous.
agreed, 25% increase seems quite greedy to me, i know they didnt give any raises to employees with that increase
...after they increased the prices by $.25 on each item...smdh...we're purchasing less.
They ought to change their name to Tree Fitty.
Underperforming? Because they dont wanna get sued for saying people are stealing and taking items with no consequence.
They raised their prices. Period.
1. Too many “dollar stores” and half of them owned by ONE FAMILY.
2. Too many of them are in really terrible areas and hire terrible staff.
3. The prices went from $0.99 to $1.25-$1.99
Terrible thieves too.
Yeah, prices have to go up if you want to get paid a higher minimum wage
I know me for one stopped going there much after they raised the price to $1.25 back when it was a dollar I would go buy stuff all the time .
People really don't understand how this all works 🤣 purchase a company "close" stores stock drops, they aren't closing them. Turning them into new dollar stores and stocks go back up. Exactly what Dollar general did.
I always say its da people. People keep stealing thieves keep stealing and stores start closing. And closing in your own neighborhood.
They're gonna reopen as "10 Dollars Tree".
😂😂😂
Price changes and underpaid employees, thats why no one is there and hell dollar general might aswell be next
Because of shrinkflation DT stores now specialize in trail size products. Those are more expensive per oz when you do the math.
Exactly the same happens when walmart closes a store after running every other store out of town.
>Ukrainian flag
>Opinion discarded
Dollar Tree became Dollar Twenty-Five Tree.
The last time I went the prizes were mostly $2-5. Very few items at $1.25.
Too many dollar stores period ... And they only put a bunch of dollar stores on the rough side of town or in some rural part of the county. They pray on the poor ... So it sounds like karma to me ...
Aw stop they are in middle class and high class areas too
@anthonytaylor7928 nawl ... I want you to go to the suburbs and count how many dollar stores there are and then turn around and go to the hood and see how many dollar stores locations I guarantee you the hood got twice as many ...
See you're fine and dandy when you got a variety of dollar stores and other retail outlets. But when you're only surrounded by gas stations and dollar stores and liquor stores and it's a dollar store every other mile there something up with that
And it may not be in your neck woods but in my part of the country, in my city, I see it.I see the difference between the urban areas and the suburban areas I don't need 4 Family Dollar stores and 3 general dollar stores within a 3 mile radius. All that shit is high. You might as well go to Walmart LOL

I won't shop at any store that won't allow the cart to unload at the vehicle. They may as well remove the carts completely and just offer baskets. Not worth my time.
If people didn't run off with the carts, sometimes full of unpaid items, the stores wouldn't have to put poles on them. Blame the thieves.

And everyone ended up at walmart

I find most of the items sold at dollar tree can be found in big box stores much cheaper
clearly NEITHER OF THESE TOOLS HAVE BEEN IN A DOLLAR TREE. Most stores are not in a rural food desert, they are in busy suburbs and cities. The stores are chaos. Understaffed. New higher priced sections that make no sense. . Empty shelves and refrigerators. Neither of these tools get it.
Paying more & getting less product! The more we earn, the more they take!! It’s just ridiculous, no matter how you look at it!!

I hope that finally only stores that are performing well in offering great customer service and have competitive prices will survive.
family dollar is terrible and both dollar generals and family dollar are under staffed and have too much inventory and they haven't raised wages up.
“Family Dollar is a victim of the macro environment out there,” Chief Executive Rick Dreiling said Wednesday, citing still-accelerating levels of *inventory loss and theft* . “But again, I come back to a well-run Family Dollar is a very, very powerful retail format.”
Their managers(at least near me) are about as friendly as a bad headache
He never says hi or excuse me or smiles
Or asked if the customers are finding everything okay.
There are two people who work at each of these stores. A Help Wanted sign means there are boxes of goods in the aisles waiting to be shelved.
Hi I go to dollar tree 2 times a week at least. One thing that bothered me is when all item went up by a quarter . They should of ketp it a tradition to keep it old style . Sad for those Dollar General Stores now come to close all their stores. When sex hard drugs put in all food/drinks in 7/2021, I was devastated due to I could sense the drugs in food, use things, I couldn't eat them. I miss dollar tree Very much Farewell
most of the stores are completely hideously run from the corporate level.

@AtomicGirlNYC folks will either shop or shoplift
Well this Sucks. I pray that they Don't Close Stores in the suburban Chicago area !!! PLEASE.
They exactly what communities these are in. Majority urban areas.
Too much shoplifting from certain people.
one clerk per store for $8 an hour. who can't stock shelves and run register simultaneously.
greed. that's what happened.

Now this is interesting. Viewing this story, 3 weeks ago. And we always have noted to be cautious of some stories, bec some stories in our research we’ve deemed seem to be mainly ‘scare tactics or stirring the pot reports’. Just an observation we’ve noted throughout a long time frame, @ 25 years.
However may be some merit to these current reports, of course.
But, as we were scrolling down the videos of this report, saw another report about this same topic of dollar stores, But Noted the date was from 5 yrs ago.
That’s our point from our research, over many years, the regurgitation of stories, to kind of stir up the pot, scare tactics; however, we take w a grain of salt, bec these current reports may indeed be true and have validity, in this current time frame of 3 weeks ago. Just Be Aware and do The Proper Research, Comparisons of this Story, e.g., from 5 yrs. Ago, those business stats to currently, @ 3 weeks ago!
Is there a downward trend in sales and more chance of stores closing where customers have to separate from their backpacks and personal items while shopping? I've seen it many times over my lifetime, I believe that's the end-in-site for many big name locations and whole big name businesses and small stores.
Where did they got wrong??? Start with zero customer service, unkempt, understaffed, understocked, stores. Fix that and you will have lines out the door.
