The price of everything is a complete joke, a day out for a family easily turns into a £100 plus. Unsustainable when we’re all getting ripped off on housing and utilities as well
Big Man £28.50 to get in ? bloody hell thats 9 double vodka's in my local and a packet of dry roasted nuts lol love your work guys looking forward too the next one already .................
Great vlog guys...keep em coming...I'm sure Helen went in trap 5 and somehow came out of 9...if you like JCB's you and Helen should pop to Diggerland, that'd be a right laugh 😁😋
I must be trapped in a time warp. My young colleagues tell me they spend at least £150 on a night out in Leeds. I used to go out with 20 quid and still have a pocket full of copper the following morning. I'm glad I just have a few beers in the house these days.
Gotta have bubbles in cider! 😀 Mind you, when I worked in the 'scrumpy house' in Salisbury, the old boys drank the flat from a barrel and if a bit of the barrel lining was included, all the better!!! (Never did understand that bit!!!😂)
Another smashing 'drinks information' video thank you both
Thank you, glad you liked it 😊
I live in Chesterfield so I am about 15 minutes from Chatsworth. I'm glad I avoided the Country Fair at those prices. The admission charge was enough to put me off from buying tickets.
Totally agree, I originally come from Buxton …… only about 12 miles from Bakewell, I guess Chatsworth is maybe 3 or 4 from Bakewell ……. I live in Whaley Bridge, High Peak now ……. But £28 pounds for the Entry fee alone Scandalous.
I remember my sister years ago going to the Chatsworth shop with my aunt, she had bought a few things one was a Cheap looking Chatsworth Pen for £5 ……. God only knows what Americans think of prises there!
Because lots of them go, my wife is American she’s loves the house because it was in the movies, mini series Pride & Prejudice. 🙄🤮
I would have went back with the food and asked for my money back because it was unfit for eating.
The same with the sickly sweet Cider.
Good advice to people to bring packed lunches.
brilliant video sorry helen im with james the rotherham fair wins hands down, £28.50 each for practically the same stalls & food vans , plus its local so not as far to travel so saving on fuel to get there, win win❤❤
After giving it more thought we've decided that Rotherham was much better 😊
Very good videos of your visit to Chatsworth country fair and the Rotherham fair. Food and drink traders at these events have to charge the prices they do because the greedy organisers have most likely charged them 1k - 2k + per day to pitch up there. The 4 day Burleigh Horse show and country fair was here just north of Peterborough last weekend. If you wanted to go for the full 4 days, it would cost you, including parking and admission two people just over £500, if you paid on the gate. If you pre-booked online, the price came down to £285.
I agree, the food vendors are charged a fortune but they should still serve palatable food 😊
Used too GO to Chatsworth farm shop for wild boar Sausages when Visiting Sister in Laws in Sheffield ,But I used to Darlington Show many Years ago ,Many country shows in North Yorkshire ,Allways a good day Out .
Keep doing what you do. Love the chemistry the booze the scenery snd food .. its never boring
Thank you
Living in rural Somerset there's a lot of mullets.
Here's something which is now a lot more expensive, which used to be a cheap day out. Pick your own fruit! Some farms charge something like £3 to £4 entry fee per person including children, before you've even paid for the strawberries you pick (There was never entry fees years ago). It used to be a way to get a load of strawberries for a lower price than the supermarkets. Also they now often require a slot to be booked, so you can't just call in if you pass the farm.
I enjoyed today's comparison.
I'm with you, Chatsworth is just greedy. They charge exorbitant fees for stallholders, which is then passed on to the public. Just a ripoff. In a word appalling .😮😮 😮😮😮😮😮😮
Gosh, that's a blast from the past, we always used to 'pick your own' strawberries, you hardly see it these days!
Plenty of hedgerows off the beaten track providing Blackberries by the bucket load. Same for Elderberrys if you like to make your own plonk.
Highlight of the week, thank you for the upload guys 👍
Really enjoyed the comparisons you made, think l would enjoy both. Thanks for the ride 👍💕
Love the vlog, thank you both 😁
All these shows are expensive they have a captive audience nice to see Helen back another great vlog
Thank you again James , great video, so interesting to hear your stories. Cannot wait for more. Love to Helen, she is a star. Xx
Thank you 😊
Was a great watch James/Helen but that`s life these days ... A couple of nights in Llandudno would have been more cost effective i think .. These vendors simply don`t use logic because if they halved their prices and gave better service they would still make a handsome profit and prob triple their sales ... Sad really but enjoyed the tour!
Thank you, glad you liked it
Thank you 27:41 so much for showing us the Rotherham show. I can't believe I missed it. I go every year since it first started.
Double expensive in this country now ..I refuse to pay ..great vlog guys as usual ..👍🏼
We had to have a brek for us tea betweent two (pause button): Ham and cheese, lettuce and cucumber sarnies (crusts in - we know where our bread's low fat spreaded!) 😮.
Prices in Baslow go up when the shows on too😊
Great video again loads of fun and humour from you and Helen, James your on my wave-length. You'll have to visit our home bar. Maybe do a video's on home bars!!! 😂
That's a good idea :-)
Loved this video. The entrance cost is disgusting and charges for food and drink well I cannot bring myself to pay those prices, but watching your video for free really helps.. love your Yorkshire sense of humour and comments from Helen.. you got a mention on a Tenerife Vlogger friend of ours “ Just Rick” by one person on the Chat.. keep doing the work you’re good at it.. Raymundo y Patricia Lancashire!! 😊
Agreed. Same down here in Cornwall with the Royal Cornwall show. Ridiculous entrance fee for essentially a trade show and ripped off beyond words with food and drink. I stopped going several years ago. Prices for food and drink in general now are not viable for most working class people as incomes have not gone up to compensate. It's insane.
Thank you, glad you like the video, I'll have to look Just Rick up 🙂
Great video thanks for posting our local shows near Saltburn-by-the-Sea are only a fiver... And the beer is 5 max
I love Saltburn-by-the-Sea, I have a video coming out on Sunday evening 🙂
I live in Cheshire we have an annual County Show which is an excellent day out. Highly recommend
Jon: Ow much ??
@@joline2730 this year it was £40 each
@@jonathanparry9505 40 nicker - omg‼️ It ought to be fantasmogorical for that much 🙄🙄
Loving the videos guys, just paid for a few drinks for ye so enjoy them. All the best from Ireland 🇮🇪
Thank you so much, really appreciate that 😊
I was at the Mondays / Noel Gallagher show last Friday at Don Valley and the food & drink prices were exactly the same . It’s pretty much standard right now I guess .
Still boycotting Chatsworth for the entry price though , ridiculous.
Chatsworth a magnificent building in an amazing location so is definitely worth a visit. Good to see the Rotherham show still going strong when a lot of town galas have declined.
I remember the lord mayors parade in Rotherham too 😊
Well that brought back some memories. Not of the two shows you visited but of the two we used to have in Northampton. I used to love a country show back in the day. I was shocked at the prices you were having to pay. But you took one for the team. Well done. It would be my idea of hell these days. 😂 Toilet roulette was hilarious by the way. 🤭🤭😄
@@Ned.1274 Yes. The two shows to which I referred, were the Timken Show at Duston (my favourite) and Nothampton Show. The Balloon Festival was back this year but I didn't go, I'm too old and decrepit now. 🤭🙂
Great video guys, loved following along with you 😀 ❤
Hi James, I so enjoy your videos, it's like actually being there without having to spend anything 😉. Great stuff keep it up !
Thank you, glad you like them :-)
Another enjoyable video guys, I'm sure I would have turned around and made for somewhere else at £28.50 each for one day. Being Chatsworth perhaps they thought if we charge that amount it will keep the Hoy Polloi out, like those beer drinking pub crawler types, you know the ones 😘. So that leather cleaner, restorative, polish stuff, I bought a tub of that at the Usk agricultural show the year before lockdown and I must say it does last and that it's very good, I've been useing it on shoes, coats, and furniture, only paid a tenner for mine and at £15 still a worthwhile purchase.👍
Hi to you both ,enjoyed your blog .I dont think I would of paid that much to get in for sure ,I prefer a loverly walk around the country side ,and pop into a local pub 😊 ange
I love watching your podcast. Thank you 😊
Great Day out in Rotherham, was lovely to meet you both, we will see you again no doubt.
Chris & Julie XX.
It was amazing to meet you too, our new friends ❤ Helen and James 😊
Great video, we were at the Rotherham show and really enjoyed it, good family day out, weather brilliant. Price of entry to Chatsworth put us off to be honest, knew food and drinks would be expensive as well. Keep doing what you're doing.
Thank you! I enjoyed Rotherham Show
Two Great vlogs there for the price of one👌👌👌👍. Great to meet you both at the show. Chatsworth all the way for us, don’t forget that includes house and gardens + show. Can’t wait for the two vlogs we can expect soon you told us about.shush….Kevin & sue.
Hi Kev, great to meet you and Sue at Chatsworth 😁
New subscriber, love the videos and banter. It is great to see unbiased views. In this video you said it's a big fair, may I suggest you take a trip to the Hoppings (if you haven't already lol) which are held in Newcastle upon Tyne in the last 2 weeks of June every year. They have been going since 1882.
Thank you and thanks for subscribing 😊
Two nice days out but can't beat a freeby for me!, many years since ive been to the Rotherham show. Think if you'd bought the program at the Chatsworth one you would have got more out of the day, as you would have seen more like you say. Helen running for the bar never fails to make me chuckle 😂such enthusiasm!
Love this. Great work.
Good watching you 2 as usual, keeping it real 😎😎
Wow …crazy money that! Great video as always guys!
great vlog been to chatsworth many times very expensive christmas is nice there xxxx
Hey up.Cracking vid guys ,very expensive though esp the admission fee,,daylight robbery ,you picked the right sunny day for it ☀️☀️
It was a lovely day weather wise 😊
Great review from you both, great Vlog, cant wait to see your next Vid, take care guys, Alec
Thanks Alec
Chuffin heck, missed the Chatsworth Fair again. Not to worry. Mind you I have seen the JCB digger show, at their headquarters in Rocester. 😜 ilona
If you ever go back to Chatsworth country fair, try the archery. I used to shoot with Derwent Bowmen and we used to have a 'have a go' there. At the time it was cheap. It was a hard few days, but well worth it. I would love to see how you and 'Hellibob' do.
Great video guys. A rather subdued Helen. Watching dancing JCB's I'd rather chew my toes off but the second look great with the vintage cars.
I was slightly subdued but life gets in the way sometimes. I can't really put an act on etc. Thank you for your comment 😊 Helen x
@@bythecurb I hope all is well with you both and I apologise for my flippant remark.
Everything has gone up! Great video 👍
Another brama 😊 first thing every day, coffee, vape & by the curb. Sets me up for the day ❤
We went to the Rotherham Show on the saturday. Its great and always has been, and free. We enjoyed the big cardboard puzzles
Can'r believe the cost to get in to Chatsworth. There seemed more to see at Rotherham as well, loads more than the Christmas market at Wentworth Woodhouse.
Brilliant vlog as always guys ❤
Thank you showing love your blogs james n helen
Brill pair of you as always keep em coming. Troops
Had to share this one.
Had to pause the start I do the same mate, got to price the drinks up before for getting in the que love it mate
Hunters wellies and Barbour Jackets, Love the way you say what we’re all thinking 😂
Absolutely love ya videos. Both looked good
Thank you
Hi Helen &james I can't believe you didn't know the difference between apple&pear cider. Rotherham was 2nd place where were first show.
@@carlharris2808cheers.
Loved it so much I am just going to watch it again
I thought trap number 16... glad I don't gamble 😂
I love your videos please do more and I like it when you tell us what the prices are thank you ❤️
I've got lots more to come. I'm in this for the long haul 😊
Will you both ever do a live broadcast on your travels? Brilliant shows 🎉
We need to do it but need to learn how to
Love your videos and please smile more your luck is going to change in the next 6 months 👍
During this video Helen said her family was poor when she was growing up. My family was so poor, in winter we all used to gather around a candle to keep warm. And when it got really cold, we’d light it.
I like this video Helen & James as I thought it was just me that complained about the prices at these sort of events.
That is the part I go for is the food and drink, but like you, I walk from stall to stall and end up buying nothing and calling into a chippy when we leave.
ALSO, now its just arrived is the Christmas Market 2023 (I live in Manchester so that is the one I am moaning about) where they are extremely dear for the food and drink.
(you might want to do a review on a Christmas Market maybe)
(at least you don't have to pay to get in) (yet).
So I have seen a few of your videos, the last one being Benidorm Fiesta, and I am liking them so now I have just subscribed but not sure where I am in the 1.7k subscribers.
So now I am backtracking through your videos watching them and playing catchup.
I don't know your ages, but I am 65 and wish I had done something like this when I was younger.
But they didn't have Cinetube in those days. 😝😝😝
Best Wishes.
Colin.
P.S. I won't tell anybody I saw you laughing and smiling James 21:48 🤫🤫 🤭🤭🤭🤭
Thanks Colin, thanks for subscribing. Lots of people have asked us to do a Christmas Market, not sure if. I'm going to yet as I agree with you that they can be a rip off
What a difference a day makes James, £28.50 😱 that's daylight robbery. Better banter at the Rotherham fair....Great vlog 😊
Absolutely
Nicer one guys !! great video
11:12 A Solider nearly loses a finger! “Hang on, HANG ON! 😂
Helen's comment about the bread truck brought back memories of the 60's. Mom use to buy dad's bread from it, only place you could find it. I always wanted a chocolate brownie from it, didn't always get one but happy when I did. I would choose the free Council Show over the pay to get in fair. One looks just as good as the other so why not pick the one for free. We had one county fair in the Summer and the first day of the fair always kicked off with a parade first. Later, we started getting Street Fairs down Main Street, especially near to Christmas time. Thanks James and Helen for the fair share.🎪🎡🚜🍟🍻😊
You're welcome. Back in the 70s & 80s the Rotherham show started with a parade too. Everyone used to line the streets to watch the floats go by.
Our new Sunday night TV , we get in exactly the same situations , we are 50% in the van but still have to do some work , the future of TV ,, brilliant , nice to see people loving pubs
Thank you, glad you like
Living the dream guys! I remember those fairs..... you'd do around the stalls/tents/whatever and the kids would spot the fudge stall....homemade, blah blah blah...so they'd load up the little sweet shovel and then came the weighing! 12.50 for a half dozen sweets! Never again! ☀️ Enjoy the craic anyway. 👊
LOL 😆 your comment has really made me laugh. Lots of love, Helen ❤
@@bythecurbps my mam trained as a nurse in Rotherham, late 40's/early 50's. She LOVED THE PEOPLE and always spoke highly of the Yorkshire people, hardworking and so FUNNY! Cheers from Ireland. ☀️
Enjoyed video thanks both
Hilarious, how does Helen find these people. At 6.08 the guy says don't find the one with the red stripe....if you know you know. lol. Love how they are drinking out of coffee cups. If I had to choose, both good, but I agree with Helen, its good to sometimes put your Hunters and Barbers on and feel posh.x
😂 we all know what that red stripe means and we aren't talking Jamaican larger 😆 Helen
Loved the free one better see you on the next one
These country fairs are a joke when it comes to prices..It's purely down to greed ..simple...
Completely agree. I am forced to go to them as my daughter attends shows as a performer and is too young to go alone. You basically pay to go in and pay some more, and at premium prices. (Oh and even parents of performers have to pay full price).
@@davidholgate123 then why do they even bother Dave?? I certainly wouldn't want to rip the public off..I'd rather not have a stall if that's the outcome..They should all stick together and say the overheads are wayyyy too high to even think about having a stall..Never give in to ridiculous demands...👍
@@davidholgate123 Yes, I thought about this myself. You make a good point.
They charge the stall holders extortionate amounts too 😮
@@JulieBrooks66 exactly,greed all round..
Hi brilliant your two. remind me when I went to rotherham show love it . What was the food like at Clifton park.
The food we had in clifton park was much nicer
A date for your diary next year Nantwich Food Festival it's over 3 days , it's on every year beginning of September, it was on last weekend. They also have a jazz festival not sure when on just follow Nantwich Town Council news seem to have loads going on.
Thanks for the tip, love a bit of Jazz 😊
I remember the bread van coming round. There was also the pop lorry, the fish man, a lorry selling sacks of spuds and a mobile shop. All gone now but amazingly the Rington Tea vans are still on the go. It absolutely baffles me how a firm selling tea & biscuits from vans can exist in 2023. They run brand new Ford Transit Connects that cost upwards of £22k. Then they have staff to pay, premises, stock and all the related overheads (insurance, tax, fuel, rates etc.) You have to sell an awful lot of tea and biscuits just to break even. How the hell do they do it? I mean who buys boxes of tea and biscuits on the doorstep in this day and age?
I agree with you 15 years ago sort of in Bournemouth my wife and I went to a country fayre even though we could afford it we would not pay the entrance price regards Howard from Cyprus
As been mentioned before the price stallholders have to pay for the space or an inside stall is astronomical. Less than 10 years ago i would pay around £10 for a pitch at a country town/village fete or fun day. Now the expectation is around £30, which for hobbyists and handcrafters is a lot. 4 day events are for those who make a living from their wares, so whether its a village fete or country mansion fayre, they are the ones making the real money by charging exorbitant amiunts for pitches and stalls.
I love Chatsworth house , use to go in motor home it's beautiful at Christmas and there fair , you took me back there like sad has my husband has passed away , oh my god prices dear now , put the companies what 2 grand from there taking in some places , 👍👏
Great video guys.
Oh guys you should of kept talking to the guy with the grey mullet and pack up 5mins in..absolute character..oooh get me wellingtons and go see sheep!!! 😂🐑 love you guys..this coming from a 42yr old single dad of one and seriously depressed..but for some reason your little vlogs cheer me up every time bcoz your just the average guy and gal doing there thing..(no offence 🤩) love your everything together..I never comment on tube vids until now..take care and give roseberry topping a visit on outskirts of Middlesbrough x
Thanks Chris, and thanks for commenting. He was a real character the chap with the mullet 😊
You two remind my husband and I of my sister and her husband. Our husbands are both English, mine from Clacton on Sea, hers from Chorley. We have both been married over 50 years. Just like my sister Julie and Dave her husband. Used to be, still are. So funny. ❤🇦🇺
Hi Helen.. where did you get your lovely check trousers from please?... you look great 👍
nice day out guys but prices like Harrods :)
I went to the Silverstone Festival a few weeks back. Great day out it must be said if you're a petrol head. But £35 for two burgers and chips is eye-watering. They were good quality though. I think your advice is best. Pay the entrance price and cater for yourselves.
Wow thats expensive!! 😬
Love watching you guys 😊
Love watching you r videos xx❤💙
Thank you so much!!
🙋♀️ Can't believe you dipped in your pocket for Chatsworth - I would DEFO have turned around and been off to a pub ‼️
Rotherham was a very nice day - lots to see and do - didn't see any loos though - perhaps that's what you were paying for at Chatsworth ....
There were a few but not as many as chatsworth
I bloody love prom scratching. There’s a pub I go to sometimes they have them served warm off the bar.
Didn’t know the difference between cider and perry, it’s apple and pears lol 😅😅😅 get yourself to the Robin Hood beer festival at Trent Bridge in October
Chatsworth has/is always expensive,,The upkeep of Chatsworth house isn't cheap you know.....Great video.Great content..👍💯
Yes! Thank you!
Again, thank you for your entertaining selfless public service.
Part of the charm of your videos is how it brings back memories in us oldsters of similar times here in Canada. The Fair we had in my younger days was wonderful... cheap & cheerful, dirty with sideshows that charmed as much as they exploited the dancing girls and the unfortunates in the Freak Shows. Times have changed... political correctness pulled the teeth of the sideshows, the Fair got cleaner, more expensive and more boring. Anyway... thanks for sharing your adventures. P.S. If you are earning money from your videos; can't you claim the cost of meals at Fairs, etc as a business expense on your taxes? That would make the price gouging a little more bearable.
Thanks for your comment, yes I do believe I can claim these all back. I'm saving the receipts any way 🙂
Good stuff👍
Your drinking a beer to show us oh it gonna cost you a fortune 😂😂😂😂😂😂
