Thanks for all the great comments. I just added plans and cut list on the blog post. Check it out: gadgetsandgrain.com/2018/03/13/diy-mobile-modular-workbench-to-bring-your-shop-to-the-next-level/
Love the plans! Thanks for taking the time and not nickle and some us for the plans! Ha I'm going to build this with a few add on. I'm adding and router table and a table saw. Have you added and thing to you table?
Man i bought and built bobs bench which is great, but i wish i would have seen yours because i need to build a miter saw station, and yours would have killed 2 birds with one stone for me. Nice build man
I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.
So, I got the plans and worked on my implementation of this great workbench. it turned out just as great as how you have it. it serve me very well because of the width. the 24" is perfect for my garage and I opted to keep the half with the Miter saw as a "permanent" Miter station to be moved only if I need to cut large sheet of goods. I changed the way they lock together by using a clamp lock instead of the magnets. I just felt they would have less movement this way, and could get the magnets fast enough :). I am now in the process of adding a Miter fence after changing the height so that the saw sits flush withe surface instead of above it, and a dust collection system of some sort. I have also added a small cabinet where I installed my Ryobi table saw on and added caster to make it the same height as the workbench, again for large sheet goods. So, basically with your great design, I was able to establish my woodworking workshop that I always wanted. all thanks to you for the great concept and ease of design. Thannks
Nice and simple. I like that you show us how to build a work bench, and are not working on a work bench to build it, since that is what most people needing to build a work bench will have to deal with! I'd like to add in a jig to hold a fence for when you might want to use the cross cut saw in lieu of a table saw for ripping certain pieces. Excellent. I think this may be the bench I build.
This is probably one of the coolest ideas I’ve seen for a workbench! Definitely love that it can be a space saver, but also adapt to a large workbench if needed.
I'd been thinking of building something modular with magnets just like this but with a Paulk top. Picked up several new ideas watching this one. Great work and thanks for sharing!
This is my new favorite design. I had 1 main question: how do you account for uneven garage floors effecting the benches joining together for a smooth top? I would imagine the 2 tops wouldn't align well which could throw off builds that needed both tops. Also, thank you!
Thanks for sharing detail material list and plans on your blog unlike lot of folks here. Newbie here, just trying to understand how it is built etc. your plan is definitely on top of my list. Appreciate it.
I love this table. When I first starting watching my first thought was that I didn’t need a work bench that big but it’s perfect. I also like that you plainly explain the construction and all of the materials used to build it.
Awesome spin on narration Jeremy, I liked reading what the different pieces were. Thought that was pretty unique, I hope you don't mind me replicating this for my shop haha!
Awesome! This is definitely the winner, hoping my skills are up for the task, but going to attempt this as the first project for my workshop upgrade. Thank you!
I am planning a mobile work bench with 3 integrated flip stations. Now I'm thinking just build the 3 flip stations and use magnets to stick them together. Awesome idea! Thanks.
@@GadgetsandGrain Sounds good. I'm clearing out my 2 car garage and making it a dedicated woodshop - smithy. It's a bit of a challenge fitting both in 20x20. Looking for more good space saving ideas. Thanks again for sharing.
I’m definitely enjoying the edits and the instruction written on the material. I’ve been researching videos for my workbench and it’s been getting monotonous with all the other videos. I appreciate the variety 👌
Of course, when I have an idea, there's a video already completed on it. Thanks for the walkthrough. I like your method of having the "what's happening" written on the project pieces as you're doing it. Keeps it simple and yet explains what's happening.
The funny thing is that today I was coming up with a similar idea to use magnets to join a couple of smaller workbenches together when I needed it, and then while looking for small workbench design ideas on UA-cam, I came across your video which not only shows that it can work, but your design is possibly the best I've seen all day. Thanks for sharing your design and building process with us!
Thanks for the inspiration here. I have a garage that is used for other things too and, not just a workshop and being from across the pond from you, in the UK, its not really the biggest of areas to work and, I have been pondering over possible solutions but, coming up empty until I saw your video. Thank you so much dude and, giving a cut list too, is the icing on the cake. thanks again.
I am absolutely going to make a variation of this. I've been using Steve Ramsey's basic mobile workbench for a while and it's served me great, but I'd like to address the shortcomings with my existing setup and this looks like it does.
What a fantastic video!!! Having a big bench is great!! I love mine!! Yours is 100 times nicer! I also have 2 sheets of plywood for my top, I screwed them together w/o glue, this way when the surface gets boogered up I still have 3 sides to go. I figure I'm good for 10 to 20 years. My shop is no showpiece, but maybe with a little practice, I might make a few pieces to be proud of. Great music too!
The split design and the sunken miter section gives me ideas for a swappable miter/jobsite saw section. The back half of the table then can rotate to be an outfeed table already at the right height. I will say however, with the price of lumber right now, that doubled up 3/4 ply top is not a cheap option.
I have had this plan in my head for a long time and to see someone else put it together is a great help. I can see things I haven't thought about and others I would change for my situation. Thanks for putting this together.
I'd store the mitersaw on a waist high shelf or hang it from french cleats on wall rather than bending down so far. One advantage of this set up is it's easy to take the saw to a remote site and set it on sawhorses with planks across them. Also as you say you can make other inserts. These two reasons, other inserts and remote work keep me from going for a rotating set up. Thanks for the detailed plans!
CUT LIST. G&G did not post exact measurements so I kept it as simple as I could. The following cut list is ONLY for the mitre station half of this project and will build a bench 96" wide x 24" deep x approx. 36" high (height will depend on size of caster you choose). Happy building! 2x6x31 (4) "outside" corners 2x6x24 (4) "inside" corners 2x4x24 (4) vertical supports 2x4x18 (12) cross pieces, including 2 for inset 2x4x34 (4) top horizontal braces 2x4x28 (4) 2 for base of mitre station and 2 for inset 2x4x96 (2) long horizontal pieces across the bottom 3/4x24x96 (1) plywood slab for base (I used oak plywood--very sturdy--so did not laminate the bottom or the top). You'll have to cut out notches for the casters but I just did that by eye. 3/4x24x?? (3) the top slab you will need to measure and cut to fit your desired mitre slot. My mitre slot is 28" wide (fits my 12" compound saw) and centered in the bench, so the middle piece is 3/4x24x28 and the outside pieces are each 3/4x24x34.
Sorry it too me so long, but I added plans and a cut list in the blog. Let me know if this clears things up: gadgetsandgrain.com/2018/03/13/diy-mobile-modular-workbench-to-bring-your-shop-to-the-next-level/
Man your Workbench Plans & Cut List should be used on every set of plans on the internet.I would have to make a very small version of this ,as my shop size is only about 10 x 15 Not sure that I would use the magnets,Was thinking more in the line of a two blocks with a long dowel pins - eye screw to a small rope and if needed a cotter pin .Kinda like the way a folding futon locks together with dowel. But at lot more tight. Looking forward to watching more of your videos
You could add a french cleat system on the ends for a table saw, router and other tools. Very cool yet simple table with loads of expansion possibilities.
Very nicely done. Would challenge you to make that miter section a flip-top instead of a manual-move for the saw. I'm currently taking apart my static work benches built on top of 1/2 sections of rigid steel shelving and moving to this design. I want to be able to use as in-feed and out-feed tables, or snap together for large assembly or paint/finish. Thanks for the ideas.
Nice job. I made a bench using 2x6 for the base as well. My miter saw is in the middle like yours. After a year, the middle started to sag. Had to install casters on the middle as well.. Food for thought
Hey good effort. Wasnt sure about pocket hole joints but they look solid enough. I have a small garage. Thinking modular is the way to go. Thanks for video. Good luck in the future projects🏴😀
I think I will take inspiration from this and create a 2 piece workbench that has a router lift, table saw, and miter saw flip top stand all incorporated in. Space is at an absolute premium in my "workshop" and all tools need a home when not in use.
Nice idea and execution of your plans. I would suggest making a sliding shelf to put the miter saw on underneath the work bench. Would save a lot of bending.
I was just thinking about building a work table that I can separate and have a multi purpose use. Love your video. It’s perfect for my table saw, miter saw, router and my jigsaw.
Great project, and I plan to use the magnet idea for my own multi-piece workbench. I intend to make the mitre saw section a flip-top, so its at the right height for the mitre saw, but flips over to be level with the worktop.
A slide out drawers for your miter saw underneath would make it easier to get and put away. Gonna build my own. Looking around and I think I found it.😎
Subscribed. Am about to start building this. Exactly what I had in mind after searching for a few days. I was hoping to find plans/cut list, but nothing wrong with requiring a little independent thought from the folks hoping to take advantage of your own independent thought and hard work. Well done!
Had lots of great feedback on this, so I just added plans and a cut list: gadgetsandgrain.com/2018/03/13/diy-mobile-modular-workbench-to-bring-your-shop-to-the-next-level/
Love it!! How about putting another caster in the middle to support weight of bottom deck ? I haven’t seen anyone put the deck underneath like that . Several new feet of found storage!
Great Job!! I am an avid follower of everything WWMM, and I just found Bobs channel last week. Both of those guys have amazing skills. Since my Wife finally let me give eviction notices to the cars in the garage, I now have my own wood shop. :) I will be building the work table this weekend and will be following this design pretty closely. Thanks Again, Awesome job!
I'm a little late to the party, but I wanted to say this gave me some good solutions for a shop in a 40' container. 12' will be framed and insulated for reloading, batts and electric (for solar), and water pump and tank. That leaves 28', but my convertible will take up 17' when we are traveling. This design will allow me to use a section for an out feed, another for my miter saw, or side by side for glue ups and push against the wall when done or push them to the center of the container to get my car in. Thanks.
There are two components on these how to videos: first is the content (in this case the workbench - very cool, and I am stealing some ideas). But the other thing is the making of the video itself (i.e. making it clear, to the point, and entertaining). Not talking all the time but instead writing what you're doing on the materials is another level of brilliant.
If this had a space for a table saw as well it would be perfect! I’m in the process of trying to design how I want my garage/work station to be set up.
I Love this design its simple but effective and you give very good detailed plans and cutting charts. If you have a large surface area like that its good for a “rip saw” Can you do a follow up vid on this showing how you would integrate a folder way rip saw.
Nice idea and I like the way you captioned the steps right on the wood. Very creative. I also like the idea of putting the bottom shelf under the frame; much simpler that way and gives some extra vertical space for internals. You must be from California; put on some shoes when you're working in the shop! Safety, safety, safety.
I've been putting ideas together for a mobile work station. I almost laughed out loud when I saw you using a banquet table for assembly etc, (since that's what I use too) I built a table/stand for my job site table saw so I can use the banquet table for my outfeed table. The table saw stand when upside down allows the saw to fit inside for easy transporting or storage. I too still like to actually park in my garage. Lol. Nice build. I enjoyed the video.
hola!!! me gusto mucho tu idea del banco doble, sera ideal para mi espacio. A diferencia de tu trabajo me permitire encastrar las maderas. Felicitaciones y saludos desde Buenos Aires!!!

TY so much for the plans/cut list. I've been thinking of exactly what you did for the miter station and am happy to see it work out well.
Love the plans! Thanks for taking the time and not nickle and some us for the plans! Ha I'm going to build this with a few add on. I'm adding and router table and a table saw. Have you added and thing to you table?
you commented on making a new video for the storage. i can find that video. i love my new bench!!!

Gotta love those safety shoe flip flops while handling some of that heavy stuff, LOL...
😂
Great build man! 1 suggestion if I may! Try the flip top so you don’t have to remove the miter saw and have to put it back

I had the same issue w/my table saw/router bench. Now has 6 casters.
Nice job on the video. The benches look great!
While watching i thought it needed middle casters. Good confirmation
Love the concept. I’m starting with the miter saw bench today! Thanks for posting the pans below.
Nice build, I could see this used as a flip-top for the miter saw instead of having to remove it everytime

That convertable mitre saw station is the best idea I've seen in a while!, you're a genius. Thanks for uploading.
Great video. I love the idea of the magnets and portability to roll out of the garage. I think I will be building something very close to this.
Good luck on your build.

Also Little alignment pins for miter saw station base.
Wow, great design and build!
Nice idea and execution of your plans. I would suggest making a sliding shelf to put the miter saw on underneath the work bench. Would save a lot of bending.
Congratulations, because your project is one of the best table at work of wood.
I was just thinking about building a work table that I can separate and have a multi purpose use. Love your video. It’s perfect for my table saw, miter saw, router and my jigsaw.
Отличная идея! Возьму на заметку.
Thanks for posting, really liked the design
Love this concept!
Outstanding video. I've been looking for a bench design to fit my garage. This one will do perfectly. Thanks man!
Great project, and I plan to use the magnet idea for my own multi-piece workbench. I intend to make the mitre saw section a flip-top, so its at the right height for the mitre saw, but flips over to be level with the worktop.
Super cool bench man!
Nice job jerrey !
Thanks for this awesome tutorial! Will love to see one that is not modular and smaller light weight for women lol!!
Great job dude. They’re cool
Amazing! Love it! I’m anxious to have our own work shop and have the space to make one ourselves! Thanks for sharing!
A slide out drawers for your miter saw underneath would make it easier to get and put away. Gonna build my own. Looking around and I think I found it.😎

Очень интересный проект! Спасибо за подробное видео. Удачи в новых проектах!
This was a great video & most helpful to me as I will start my workbench in the coming weeks.Thank you from Australia
Your magnetic lift out piece is a great idea. So many possibilities with a simple idea 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Love it!!
How about putting another caster in the middle to support weight of bottom deck ?
I haven’t seen anyone put the deck underneath like that . Several new feet of found storage!
What a great video. love the kid.

How did your bench turn out?
I'm a little late to the party, but I wanted to say this gave me some good solutions for a shop in a 40' container. 12' will be framed and insulated for reloading, batts and electric (for solar), and water pump and tank. That leaves 28', but my convertible will take up 17' when we are traveling. Thanks.

Any changes/additions you would make after 5 years? Planning to do something similar. Great video and plans!
I really look forward trying this. It really is a great idea when you are going to work with plywood a lot.
Good luck on the build Sandra. Let me know if I can answer any questions along the way.
I have finally found the workbench that I want! Thanks dude! I have been searching for one for weeks.
If this had a space for a table saw as well it would be perfect! I’m in the process of trying to design how I want my garage/work station to be set up.
Congratulations, your project is very good. It's one of the best woodworking table project that I had seen.
This is phenomenal! Thanks for all your efforts!
Cool solution - nice to see videos of someone still using their garage as a garage! Subscribed!
Cool slighty doing the same with my work bench, but folding out the other half, but got some good ideas of you thanx
I Love this design its simple but effective and you give very good detailed plans and cutting charts. If you have a large surface area like that its good for a “rip saw” Can you do a follow up vid on this showing how you would integrate a folder way rip saw.
What is the music used, especially the guitar music at the end? Just built this a few minor mods. Very sturdy.
Awesome! I'm going to build one.
California indeed and thanks for the tip :)
Dude. This is freak’n genius! Thanks for sharing
Great video. Thanks for sharing it. I'm going to try a scaled down model to fit the size of my work area.
That's awesome, man! very very cool!
