The beauty of Ola’s early gear demo videos was that he was actually using all of that gear to showcase his original songs/ riffs. Most videos would feature a full length song. I think a lot of us tuned in because we were interested in the gear itself, but I kept coming back to hear his music. I could say the same thing about Keith and a lot of the others. Most UA-cam guitarists today are just salesmen and not actually showing off anything creatively anymore.
Also, I used to watch Kris Barocsi’s video of him playing his Edward’s Alexi Laiho model into his 6505 constantly.

To this very day, I remember sitting in school, thinking about Keiths and Olas stuff. I would have Andromeda by Keith Merrow stuck in my head for weeks, if not months. During school, I could not focus because those riffs were so fresh and heavy for me at that time and printed into my brain. The most important thing however was the fact, that those guys were just some regular dudes. I always wanted to play in a band but could never find someone in my area. So these two showed me, that you can be your own band. Today I'm doing the same stuff that Ola and Keith were doing - recording Metal at home, mixing it, uploading it on UA-cam.
The 3 most important videos for me from that time are: Keith Merrow - Andromeda, Olas video, where he plays an Ibanez RG7 into a Mesa Boogie Dual Rec and later where he demos the Line 6 POD HD Pro where he sits on the couch playing Skyrim. I could not believe the sound these two dudes where getting out of their gear. Those were the days.

Fluff I think you’ve shaped modern day guitar UA-cam more than anyone. Back in the day I don’t remember anyone pumping out the consistent FAQs every week that you were. Now almost every big guitar channel is following the format and schedule that made your channel a success. YOU are the model of success everyone looked to. And FEW of them are as entertaining as you are. You’re every bit a GOAT as Ola, my man!

I remember back in 2013 messaging you on Facebook about the ART TPSII you were using at the time and you continued being super open with any questions I had from then through 2015 and I really appreciated that ❤ I think I originally recall finding you while searching for videos on the Line 6 POD HD Pro and you rocking your white Schecter Solo model. I remember Keith's rise specifically during the time where Agile guitars was REALLY blowing up. Then came Ola and others. The late 2000s into the early 2010s were a good time.

I remember finding Ola's video of the Dual Rec vs ENGL Savage video, that honestly changed the course of my life of what guitar tone could be and what it could be from your own home. I must have been 14 or 15 at the time and have been a fan girl ever since. Him and Keith's stuff honestly probably help form my idea of my current career choice of audio engineering. Always will respect them!

  • @ThatBaritoneGuitarGuy

Oddly enough, I found UA-cam guitar stuff because of Joey Jordison getting booted from Slipknot. While I was watching the news video, one of the videos in the suggested videos tab was Krimh doing a Slipknot audition video.
One of the videos in the suggested videos tab was that collaboration video with Ola Englund. Among his most recent videos were those demo of the Chapman 7-strings. That led me to Rob Chapman.
Rob Chapman was the one who pioneered the concept of endorsing UA-cam guitar channels, and giving guitars for them to use on the channel. That was what introduced me to Rabea Massaad, Rob Scallon, and YOU.
To think Joey Jordison being booted from Slipknot would lead me to YOUR channel...Amazing.

Those videos are what inspired me to expand my guitar/music knowledge. I was in college and at that point just playing for fun and playing Slipknot on my MIM Strat. Then I found one of Chapper's videos about modes. I always wanted to learn music theory, but I never had the space in my schedule to take a class. This was around 2011, so he was also starting to make content with Andertons, so I started picking more instrument knowledge, how an amp works, how pedals affect the sound. That led me expand out to other channels, learned how to setup a guitar watching Phil McNight, learned how guitars were made watching Ben Crowe in his garden shed (which led me to picking up wood working), learning about recording with Fluff, seeing how music can just be fun with Rob Scallon, finding new music via Animals as Leaders and Periphery. It was so exciting.

Even had an entire section on his website with FAQ about what he did. And if you asked something else related in the comments he'd be pretty fast to answer too.
