POR 15, is the bomb. I painted my fender wells close to 20 years ago on my old 61 comet and before I sold it it looked as good as the day I painted it. No chips, just some fading. I made the rookie mistake, didn't wear gloves and It was on me for months.....
Paint It Black. I remember watching "Tour Of Duty" back in the day and that was the theme song. That said, I just noticed that my spring tower cover on the driver's side is AWOL. Do I need to be concerned?
I’ve been thinking of using lizard skin and por15/chassis saver. I need to do something besides just spray paint to the wheel wells before my ridetech suspension and SoT 13” disc kit for the 1968 Cougar 😬
I love por15 however, it is not cheap and you do have to top coat it. Once its been applied properly, the stuff is unbeatable in my experience. I have not used it on a complete frame job though. Also, about the skin the cat comment: I love cats, they are even better with BBQ sauce lol
Didn’t know you could still get the old under coating. Sure seamed to save my wagon from rusting. Floors were mint after sitting for 20 years. Looks like you’ve got the factory seam sealer smear down pat.
I restored a 66 Mustang convertible and did a 64 Ranchero resto mod back in the early 90’s. To soften and remove grease, undercoating, and paint I used Easy Off oven cleaner. Then scrubbed everything down with paint thinner. Even the underside of the cars. Just don’t let the thinner run off your rubber gloves and run down into your arm pits. Not fun and very painful. I built a large version of a 4 wheeled furniture mover that the allowed me to roll the body outside on to a tarp and sand blast everything. Rolled the body back inside and collected the sand which I sifted for reuse. Even doing that I went through 800 lbs of 30 grit sand per car. Then seam sealed and painted the undersides, wheel wells, etc. before doing the body and paint work. Easy Off worked great, except for the mess. Just like using paint stripper.
1/3 cup of 85% phosphoric acid and 2/3 cup of methanol. Mix together in a sprayer, spray on surface. keep surface wet for about an hour then let dry. Prime or undercoat right over dried phosphoric mixture. You will not see rust there again. Worked my entire adult life in the Chemical field with many smart applications chemists. I've done this to everything that is unprotected metal and works like a charm.
Bob Ross would be proud. Jeff is there any special prep work needed in the areas that are galvanized. I don’t want the grind or sand. Great video, Thanks for sharing.

Por15 salesman told me to punch a quarter inch hole in the top of the can and just pour out what you’re gonna need and tape the hole shut that’ll keep the can fresh and the lid clean
Kinda. I've tried that trick with some success. I find the best thing is gang the work new can and refrigeration. The veggies taste kinda funny, but the POR 15 is mint.
I bought a 68 f250 a few years ago. One owner. The whole engine bay is covered with this black tar substance. Its sticky to the touch and messy when you touch it. Some places are harder than others. Have.to use a scraper to get the bulk then use a degreaser or tar remover to scrub it clean. Messy job
how dare you skin cats sir!?!?! not cool bro. and why are we using paint?!?! boiled linseed oil is the way to go. don't forget to throw the linseed applicators in the house trash hahaha i like the lizard skin. good product

I use a flat tip screw driver and tap slots in the bottom of the can lip and paint will run back into the can, the lid will go back in.
Done that too. LOL
I'll probably never need to do this, but I still find it interesting to learn how it's done.

I use POR15...Dang...I said I wouldn't say that....
I have been having really good results with Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer, leaves a nice satin black finish also. Seems to stick well to most surfaces.
Haven't tried that yet.

I'm in the process of replacing the shock Tower on my Mustang and I'm debating on using POR-15.
I've used it with good effect.

I like to hit the remaining rust with Eastwood After Blast, then coat with Rust Bullet, then truck bed coat, followed by any satin black.

If you need to grind, mask, gloves and long sleeves.
Get a multi tool and use that to scrap!

Why not use por15 on shock tower as well as the frame rail?
I use it in a lot of places, but for now I am leaving it as is so I can make some changes to the car.

Yes. 1970 Torino GT 302 three speed. It is currently resting comfortably in Texas. I am planning to go get it later this year.
Question why not drill the upper control arm shelby drop holes and fill in old ones first before painting ?
Because the plate showed up the day after I needed to shoot.
Great info. Could that Lizard Skin be used in an engine bay? Say on a VW Karmann Ghia? Is it a rubberized type product or does it dry hard?
I think so but call them to check. Be great on a VW for controlling sound and heat.

We have a diagram for that just under the wiring diagram for the generator to alternator.
I always transfer my por15 to a glass mason jar after opening. Much easier to open even if you get it around the rim.
