    Great idea! So how did the Predator 212 run with the clone Tillotson pumper carb? What manifold works and a/f adapter?

      Hi Don! I used this one on the Ducar 212 engine Build. There's a clip of it running either in the last Ducar 212 engine build video or the fuel pump install video. Maybe both? It runs great! It can really pop if you have the fuel screws turned up. These little Tilly clone carbs are awesome runners. Add an extra plate and double stack for more fuel if you're building a fire breather. I love these little carbs. Closest thing I've found to fuel injection performance for a small engine. The manifold came from Turk Brothers on this one but EC carbs or ARC probably has them too. The intake is roughly $50 and that stinks, but still worth it. (Or you can make a home made intake cheaper, just remember to include the small vacuum hole for the carb pump) Although this one is set up for gasoline, the Tillotson alcohol carbs always made the most power for my open kart. I love them.

      Kevin the Tillotson works hand in hand with a 5HP Briggs flatty. They're made for each other, especially if you run Methanol fuel! Gasoline works fine as well but they really shine on Methanol. Just remember to keep the venturi size below 1" if you have stock valves and you'll be tickled pink!

    I just used the Harley one on a 196. Worked pretty good. I modified the throttle and removed the choke. Had to drill the jet out to .045” and it was a good runner. But I just got a mofuan. Idk how to spell it and it seems to be much better quality. Got it off temu for 13$. I think they are better than a PWK style. And you make a few parts and it works. Fun to mess with

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  4 місяці тому

      Hi James! I love these little carbs! They're cheap enough to play with even if you have to buy the $50 intake. (Really cheap if you make your own intake) Much better performance with Methanol fuel than the VM-22 or PWK slide carbs. I'd love to see a Tillotson style pumper carb with a slide instead of a butterfly. EC has the parts if you want to double or triple stack the pump as well. Closest thing to fuel injection I've seen.

    • @jamesgravel7755
      @jamesgravel7755 4 місяці тому

      The 7$ intake off temu or Amazon for a clone engine. Fits perfectly if you dremal put a small divet for the pulse port. So have you run one with methanol without drilling out any ports. I have it detuned to run a 200cc on gas so it seems like I can get it to flow more than double the fuel for methanol without any major modifications. I have the pivot arm bent for half travel and the hi/lo out 1 turn or less and it still runs fairly rich. I think they would work good on methanol.

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  4 місяці тому

      Hi James! I've not converted any of the clone Tillotson carbs for Methanol use. I do have several Methanol Tillotsons (the real ones). It's a great idea to try on the cheapies because it won't break the bank if an experiment goes wrong. Please be careful if you get into drilling for Methanol use, once holes are made, you can't go back. Another important thing to consider would be to change the internal diaphragms to some made from Methanol friendly material, and adding a 2nd pump block. (stack the pumps, two is good, three is better if your engine can handle the fuel, EC has the plates you need available) Setting the popoff is very important for fuel control as well. My last Blockzilla was a three pump stack and would actually spit raw Methanol fuel out of the exhaust at idle. If you're interested in building Methanol Tilly carbs, I'd suggest buying a Methanol Tilly from EC first, then compare what they did to theirs to what you need to do to yours. Building Methanol Tillotson carbs is really an art. It can be done and you will get good with practice but I'm not ashamed to admit the last Methanol Tilly I ran on my open Blockzilla came from EC and was also race prepped by EC for my engine. They're the best.

      Thanks KFF. That’s good advice. I have not yet tried doing more stacks. But I was looking into how to do it. I was thinking of just buying one from EC and seeing what’s going on inside. Definitely subbed to the channel. Have a good one

    Hey bro. Can you tell me what air filter adapter you use for those carbs?

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  Рік тому +1

      Hi James! That's a great question and I've decided to make a video on the air filter adapter part numbers. The filter adapter I used on the Tillotson clone carb is part # 308VS purchased at EC Carburetors but it is wrong for the carb I ended up using. The ID on the adapter is a bit smaller than the air horn of the carb but larger than the venturi. It will work, but the ID on the adapter really should be opened up a little to match the carb air horn. At least the bolt spacing is correct. The dimensions on this one are 2.5" OD for the filter, .913" on the ID and the bolt spacing is 1.375" fitted with 10-32 fasteners. I did remove the choke butterfly and shaft from my carb as the Tilly's don't need a choke as they pump plenty of fuel for a cold start, the choke shaft and butterfly is just blocking air flow. I think the correct part # 302VS would be a much better match. The video will be out tomorrow.

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Oggie Outdoors! Both carbs have advantages and I do love both. It boils down to the application. For max air flow on a mini bike application you can't beat a slide carb, but for kart racing with a Methanol engine it's hard to beat a Tillotson double stack pumper carb. I've tried both on an open Blockzilla years ago, the double stack Tillotson performed better than the slide carb with Methanol as it actually pumps more fuel into the engine. The Tillotson carbs are essentially a diaphragm pump type fuel injection.

      @@KentuckyFriedFixes thanks, my 224 build is going in a big tire mini bike that will see some circle track racing. I’m building it up like you’re ducar with the mongoose cam. I order the tilly carb but if it doesn’t work out it’s cheap enough to put away for another build. Then I may try the round slide nibbi carb.

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  2 роки тому +2

      @@JohnOgdenJr The Tilly should be great for a 224. The only thing that irks me is the price of the intake. $50 is a lot IMO. I will likely throw some homemade intakes together with some 1" pipe and a couple of large washers from the TSC store. You could do the same thing. I've seen your videos on the Enduro Harley, so I know you have the skills. The Nibbi carbs look NICE, but they're a bit pricey for my projects. I have to try and keep the costs down to a reasonable amount per engine as much as I can. These projects are mostly for mini bikes and yard karts. Now if I was going racing again, I wouldn't be as "frugal minded" LOL! Thanks man!

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  2 роки тому

      Hi Nitroman365! If there are no vacuum leaks and if you're getting a lean spot near idle, it could be the air mix screw out of adjustment or, the pilot jet is a bit small. If you're running a 140 main and it seems to be running good, I'd bet you need at least a size 20 idle jet or larger. You'll have to do the adjustment on the air mix and count the turns when you've got it adjusted to the best setting you can get out of it. Remember to count the turns it takes to close the air mix screw. If it's less than 1 turn, the idle jet is too lean. More than 2 turns and the idle jet is too rich. I'll bet your idle jet is too small.

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Kevin! If you're building one for competition it's a good idea to do the pop off check to test for leaks at or around the needle. It can also tell you if the carb is working correctly as well (air leak or busted diaphragm). If you get into the Tilly carbs and building them for performance applications it's a good idea to have a vacuum/pressure tester pump. There's a complete test kit made specifically for this but it's a little pricy. You can always come up with a few fittings that will work with a low cost vacuum/pressure test pump kit though and achieve the same results.
