- Today I'm sharing my first impressions of my Birkin. And we'll also find out if I'm team Hermes Birkin or team Hermes Kelly? The Birkin is a fabulous bag, and I've wanted on for quite some time. I think I found the perfect Birkin, and I can't wait to share my thoughts with you!

This year I'd love to add more pieces from Hermès like the Birkin size 40, Constance, 24/24 and Bolide. Maybe I'll be bad and get an Hermès Kelly 40! I also recently fell in love with the Chanel Jumbo- so that's kind of a must-have for my collection, along with a Chanel Mini Rectangle and a Chanel Reissue. Honestly I thought I was Team Birkin but after I got my first Kelly (Smooth Barenia leather 35 Sellier) I have to say I’m Team Kelly 😅

So I was the reverse. I LOVED the Kelly until I actually purchased one. When I purchased both of my Birkins. That was it. They were THE bag for ME❤. I’m team Birkin all the way and want to collect a couple more especially the JPG versions. JPG’s version is not as heavy because it’s longer and that bag can hold ALOT!

Women often ask me if my Birkin is authentic 😂 like they cant believe me, a man, owns such a great bag.

I don´t own either, at least not the real thing. Hermes prices are far too high for me. What I have and use are vintage dupes from the 90ies by the German brand Kuhn Fine Line. (Made in Germany, very good quality.)
I have a 45cm Birkin dupe- "the big imposter" and a 30cm and 35 cm Kelly dupes- "the small imposters".
Being dupes (definetely no fakes!) and vintage all of them were very reasonably priced and well within my price bracket.
I enjoy both models. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
The small imposters look more elegant, but are a nuissance to get in and out of. But they are secure! Both fit a lot, especially with my bag organizers.
The big imposter simply is a very roomy tote, kind of casual.
I wear it open and carry everything but my kitchen sink. (I made a custom bag organizer for it, so there is no mess inside.) I´m always concerned about safety when carrying it open, though. On the other hand, with a bag this big, a thief would have to dig deep to find the valuables.
What I experiences with both models is, that you better don´t take them to very busy places like train stations and busy trains. There always seem to be various shady individuals there openly scanning your bags and even my dupes catch their interest and make them come far too close. On my last long train ride I had a person actually following me and circling me several times hoping I might finally start being careless and give them a chance. Old Dior definetely flies far lower under the radar!
That's true- you definitely have to be on guard when carrying these bags in busy places!
My anxiety will not allow me to own either. I love handbags and they bring me so much happiness BUT it has to be the supporting character: me first, then the outfit then the bag. It can’t only be about the bag. And if I have to give a bag so much consideration: too humid, it’s raining, too heavy to carry around all day, don’t drop it, too delicate, cover it so it gets no food splatter, remove all its accessories coz it’ll scratch…well, it’s just too much and at the end of the day, it isn’t fun anymore. When a bag dictates the weather it can go out in, the outfit I wear or where I can go with it so that’s “appropriate” or “safe” or have to buy a “daily” bag to use in it’s place so it doesn’t get too dirty or overused…well, is it even worth it?
I love that! I treat all my bags the same, so I'm just used to it!

It's the Kelly for me. The Birkin sounds so wasteful - not using the pockets, can't get the phone out easily, can't use it in the rain.
What's a Birkin smile?
I rarely use any of my pockets, so I'm used to it! A smile happens when someone hung their lock on the turet for too long. As it slides back and forth, it wears a smile into the leather.

I love that you just described your Birkin as “this is just a casual tote” 😂 I love your Birkin because of the leather, the color, the hardware - all of it! I like the way the B looks both open and closed, but absolutely loathe how the Kelly looks open when folks carry it like that 🤷🏻♀️ - I don’t own either so ignore all my opinions 😂😂😂

I love how sophisticated the birkin looks, toward kelly that looks more humble in my opinion. More statement, and surprisingly the top handle are more easy to access..
But not mentioned how heavy birkin will be😅.. As it so easy to throw everything in😅

I’m Team Fendi, haha! 😂. In all seriousness, I appreciate the beauty of Hermes bags, but they’re just not for me. I think between the two bags in question, I prefer the Kelly. Not a fan of Birkins, particularly when they’re done up. I personally feel Birkins look better when they’re left open because they do give you a more casual vibe. If I’m going to carry a sizable, slightly heavier bag (of which I know both of these are, hehe), I go for my medium and large size Peekaboo bags. I adore Fendi more than words could ever say! ❤

I own a Birkin 40 in etoupe clemence leather with palladium hardware. It’s a beautiful bag, sometimes on the large side, but I love the look of it on a man’s frame. I’ve been looking for a Kelly 28 in black with palladium hardware but I’m having a hard time finding one for the “right price”. I’m team Birkin at the moment but who knows in the future. Which is the biggest Hermes’ bag the Birkin or the Kelly
They both come in various sizes. Birkin design is based off of the Hac version (a smaller sized Hac) that’s like size 40 and up and is more for luggage purposes wise. Kelly comes in size 32. I want one more Kelly, either the briefcase so I can rig a strap on it or the 32. I love large bags. Little bags aren’t for me.
Caleb. I love the Kelly. It’s really hard to choose. The birkin is sharp. I can see it being heavy. Yes Birkin is to hard to get into. So far Kelly for me. You do carry a lot. It’s a hard choice to make. On the Birkin I love that black leather.

The Birkin is beautiful and classic, but I’m not good with a solely top handle(s) bag especially when it gets heavy. I know beauty is pain, but not at my age anymore 😂 Plus I like to have the option of a hand carry or slinging it on my shoulder so it would be Team Kelly for me! Just bought a pre-loved Kelly 28 in Jaune Ambre and I’m in love 🥰

1st of all let me start off by saying, I’m in love with the color of your B. Stunning! So much so, that I found a vintage bolide 27 in box, same color on eBay from japan and I snapped it up!! She’s 29 years old and gorg ❤I’ve been wearing her every day, loving box leather. With that said, I’m definitely team Kelly. I have to have a shoulder strap and be hands free. If I ever get a birkin, maybe a B25?

I think I prefer the idea of the Kelly as it’s easier to open/close but I’ve never seen either up close let alone owned them so who knows! Maybe one day.

A thought on the BMW unlock situation - I think it's a menu setting in the iDrive that you can configure unlock preferences to be not just the driver door. Might save you from carrying your key around all the time! They take up a lot of space in smaller bags!
Oh it totally is. I just hate the idea of both doors unlocking and if I'm not there some stranger hopping in the passenger seat. It's annoying, but it's a small price to pay for peace of mind!

Dear Caleb, I watched your video with some concern, and I had to write to you. You hate your Birkin! It's too big for your daily essentials, but you can't wear it daily anyway, you had to take off the charms that are characteristic of the bag, you forsake the function of the zipper pocket, you find it heavy, it's a nuisance to place it when you go out. I know it was a dream. But it is too easy for us to fall for dreams that society sells us. And anyway, our dreams do not always match the reality. That's why they're called dreams. A Kely is a perfectly good symbol of status. Sell the Birkin now. Make a profit. Luxury is supposed to be fun, and pleasurable.
