Not only an incredible instrument, but the Founder and Team at Emeo are outstanding. I was originally hesitant about ordering something overseas without any idea of the overall quality and support and it has actually far surpassed my wildest dreams. Kudos to Oleg et al. They have developed the greatest digital sax and provide support that every other company should strive to achieve. BTW, I loved it so much that I now have two Emeo’s. Get one while you still can. They are going to become the standard in the industry and I bet they will become difficult to obtain.
Nope. They don't even have bite control. If you need to develop this skill you need to find another breath controller. If you play Jazz forget this device. For the price they are asking for this it is an unacceptable exclusion. If they were so passionate they should have included one.
This will revolutionize practicing/rehearsing for players in multi unit living situations where noise is always a problem!! I didn’t see a price for all this tech , so for some, it may be cost prohibitive!
It looks interesting, however like others have mentioned, without embouchure development, articulation and voicing it cannot be a practice sax, as this is imho the very beating heart of what it means to play the saxophone. Maybe even the very notion of a practice sax is impossible! Yes you can work on finger technique, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to constantly dissociate this from what it takes to actually produce the sound as tone production and finger technique work together (unless you’re getting daily practice on a real sax to ‘keep it real’). I think it’s best to describe the EMEO as a realistic feeling (in terms of finger mechanism) saxophone design electronic instrument, and that’s totally fine.
It's advertised as digital saxophone, it's described as a practice saxophone, it's in a saxophone body with real saxophone keys, it looks like a saxophone - so guess which sound is NOT included in the Respiro software that comes with the digital saxophone - yep, you're right, the sound of a saxophone. Emeo claim in their manual, "Note that we did not put a saxophone sound in the collection - we did this on purpose, to emphasise that we are not trying to make the Emeo sound like a conventional saxophone." What sound do they think someone buying a saxophone of any sort would like to hear? And they clearly think the average sax player splashing out $1500 is of such low intelligence to realise that it's not a real saxophone or that they won't mind paying out even more to get the full Respiro suite so that they can make the the most expensive digital saxophone on the market actually sound like a saxophone.
What do Emeo say regarding servicing the mechanism, do you just leave it for life? My second question would be does it have a mechanical octave key? I couldn't see an octave pip. Loving the Katana stand too. Looks like a dream evening practice sax.
Although the EMEO uses a real saxophone mechanism, you shouldn't need it serviced, as it's not important for the pads to seal. If for whatever reason the keywork did need adjusting, a saxophone technician could do this for you. Yes, the octave mechanism is mechanical and feels exactly like a real sax! It's a fantastic bit of kit!
So, I have had my EMEO for almost 2 years and for a PRACTICE HORN this is great at night and when I travel. Repair Work- I recently went to Hawaii and had it packed in my carry on. The TSA agent dropped it and broke the bottom which is where the logic board is. I called EMEO and they set up Zoom calls then shipped me the replacement parts(free of charge). 1st class outfit out of Israel and the Horn is fantastic, easy to use and feels like a real sax
The Yamaha YDS-150 is nice. It comes with 70 something preinstalled audio voices for the 4 saxophones and more. You can also use it as a MIDI controlled and play the bass, piano, drums, anything in your MIDI libraries. You can even plug it into your laptop or an audio interface, with head phones, and play/record anywhere with no one hearing you play a single note as you record...very useful.🎷🎧🎛🎚🎹
I have always had the dream / plan to learn to play the saxophone, but the issue of volume when practicing has always stopped me. Would you recommend this instrument for beginners?
This is cool and I'm always happy to see more innovation in the digital sax realm, but I don't really see the point in using a 'real' metal sax body. Sure it makes it look cool but it also makes it very heavy and very expensive. I have a Yamaha YDS-150 and one of the things I love about it is that it's super light (because it can be) so I can practice for hours on end without my hands, arms and neck getting sore. It's also half the cost of the Emeo.
Must try! Best digital sax, awesome play with real fingerings - and no plastic feel under my fingertips as you have with others. Added the sound possibilities Respiro provides interesring sounds for wind/reed/woodies, nice for music production and you can edit your own. I also use the Swam iOS package für authentic Alto/Tenor/Soprano and even Baritone (requires more breath, but sounds awesome :)
Ooh... if it just had the pitch manipulation feature with bite pressure or something... I would have no choice but to immediately order one, as I am looking to buy some kind of practice horn.
I actually don’t miss the bite pressure feature on the Emeo. Although it would be a great feature I still think it is very expressive since you control the volume with you air flow.
Thanks for the great data. It seemed to me that this ins (no strument) at all of the points you play it, is void of top end (treble, if you will) and adds a reverb or digital time delay, "extending" the reach (time related) of the sounds. You indicate that the instrument produces no sound of its own, but requires an independent source to achieve it. My concern is: can the these "effects" be eliminated via the use of a program that can control them by allowing the upper end of the audio spectrum to appear on each tone, and can each tone "appear" without the apparent "extended" signal, or must the player live with that forever? Thanks again and have a wonderful holiday season.
Can anyone confirm that no pressure is needed on the upper teeth? I keep having dental work and been told not to play for several months to avoid pressure on the teeth. Would appreciate answer to this. Thanks
How does this compare to the Yamaha YDS-150 which is half the price? I'm learning Sax and wanted one that would make it easier to build my skills quietly ?
I just answered the same comment above - take a look, but briefly, I find that the genuine mechanism of the EMEO trumps the more plasticy feel of the YDS. Jim
The YDS is half the cost, and it's also super light which makes it great for long practice sessions. True, it does feel a bit 'plasticy' but I'd rather have that than something that's heavy for no reason. Neither of them have any embouchure/lip pressure detection, just air detection, so neither are going to help with intonation or embouchure, but both would help a lot with fingering and a little with exercising your chops
Just bought an emeo I love the thing to death. I however want to upgrade the case any suggestions. thinking maybe a bam cabine case, or a marcus bonna trumpet case and arrange the velcro form. Would you possible try it out for me?
I'm just a hobby player. I'd love one of these if I could get it to play through headphones, because my neighbors aren't a very lively bunch. They don't like to jazz it. Haha
I have a question. I assume the sound is not produced by vibrating the reed like a traditional saxophone. So how do you do "tonguing" on this instrument to create a brief break? Or is there any other method that is only used on this instrument and other wind synths? Thanks.
If by tonguing you mean the effect of a short burst of air pressure, yes. But in no way does it interpret the acoustic effect of tonguing a real reed instrument when you place your tongue on the tip of the reed an alter your embouchure. The only expression controller you have is air pressure. The EMEO is for practicing your finger dexterity but will do nothing for practicing your embouchure. That said it sure looks like a super instrument for doing just that and very well made. But if your main goal is to play a virtual synthesizer and make it sound organic and extremely expressive then you want a controller that offers the ability to output more expressive control information. However this gets into MIDI and MIDI continuous controllers and is just not a rabbit hole everybody wants to step into - or needs to - if their primary instrument is an acoustic reed instrument and you desire a compact practice aid. BTW the Respiro software really shines when you have a wind controller manipulating it with several expression sources such as bite pressure, mod wheel, lip pressure, glide control - you name it.
The EMEO can sound like WHATEVER module you use. I still don't understand how people just do Not get this! It is a freaking MIDI controller. You want it to sound like a saxophone, use a sax patch. You want it to sound like a electric guitar, use that patch. You want it to sound like a guy passing gas...use that patch. VERY SIMPLE.
How is the blue tooth midi latency? Is the blue tooth midi reliable for stage performance? Also, do the pinky finger keys only pitch shift G and D or effect all notes of their respective hand? I couldn't get the Emeo customer service people to answer that question. Thanks
It would be and perhaps in future will be far more interesting with mouthpiece vibrato. Otherwise it is primarily for scale practice musicians from the Scale Exercise School of Music. Technical excellence is not enough.
David, to me it feels quite different to the YDS-150. Personally I find that the plastic keys on the YDS-150 don't provide the same lively and natural response that you get from the EMEO. It's amazing the difference an actual saxophone body and mechanism makes in terms of how it performs for you. Cheers, Jim
Great video as usual. The Emeo seems like an alto saxophone. I’m a tenor player, does it work for me? By the way, your background music is rather disturbing.
Yes, this works for alto, tenor or any other sax players for that matter - it doesn't matter. When you say the background music is 'disturbing' do you mean it shouldn't be there at all, or you just don't like the actual music?
At the time of recording the version of Respiro that I was using didn't have any sax patches, although this might be something you see in the future. Personally, I don't mind it not replicating the sax sound as you might find that you're missing something when it comes to re-creating all the elements that make a natural sax sound. I've never heard a good one yet! That's why I prefer to get into the synth (and other sounds) world. Jim
As a guy who plays yamaha wx5 and wx11 synths in conjunction with the yamaha vl70m,I wonder would it be possible to play the vl70m sounds through the EMEO,at least one would have a wide choice, and the sounds are quite good also. If anyone out their has an answer regd same they might let me know.
There was the promise to actually play it, but we got no actual playing using the Respiro. Very disappointing. Finally just how good is a practice sax which does not have a mouthpiece that can produce vibrato? Sure, the feel of the keys, the tension, the speed is great, but the design does not go far enough.
Ha, no - it has a rechargeable lithium polymer battery. You can either fast charge it by plugging the cable into a mains charging block, or it will charge while you have it plugged into your computer.
Having struggled with the horrible keys on an Aerophone Go, this EMEO seems such the right solution.....(especially as my Aerophone has just broken). Mind you....I've just seen the price, it's proper money.... @JimCheek - what's the latency like? This was always a concern on the Roland's.
@@saxworldwidebut it doesn’t sound like a sax. Also, the mouthpiece, does it have any of the functionality of a akai Ewi because at that price point it needs to outperform the “reed” they sport.
hi ! i got two questions : - does respiro app work if you connect emeo to iphone with cable and using headphones ? - is the bluetooth latency high when you use respiro with iphone ?
What could this be played on as a beginner . Instead of midi isn’t there a program that u can hook onto to get alt, soprano, tenor, baritone sounds that’s all I need
To be honest I think this thing just doesn't have a market. You can get a travel sax which has all the same features except the keywork is a little bit further away from feeling like a real sax. No digital sax currently on the market is going to be able to properly emulate how it feels to blow into a sax, do the articulation and create the sound. So all these tools are just good for working on your fingering technique. So why get an emeo for 1800€ that weighs smth like 1.5 kg when you can get a travel sax for 500€ that weighs 400g, is smaller and almost as good? really don't see why that one extra mile the emeo is going should be worth a grant
It would be more attractive at the price point if it had onboard sounds. $1900 for a MIDI wind controller even one that models a saxophone is a bit high, in my opinion.
@@jamieberlyn3038 Saxophone in particular is way worse (in terms of being electronically replicable) than any other instrument afaik. Synthetic flutes/clarinets/strings etc can sound passably accurate but nobody has "cracked" the saxophone yet.
Only time will tell I guess, but we have been advised that a UK service centre will be set-up in the coming months. I'm assuming they will be versed in dealing with electronic issues that come up.
JUST ANOTHER WIND DIGITAL SAX TAKING AWAY THE REALISTIC FEEL OF A REAL SAX WHICH DONT " CHEAT" REMEBER BASIC SAX PLAYING IS A SKILL NATUREL SOUND WITH BEUTY.
I'm not buying one because I'd have to remember the brand and model of my headphones, computer, phone, and software to answer, "Hey, man, what's your EMEO setup?"
Why don't these digital saxophone manufaturers partner with Swam engine so they have some realistic sounds and articulations. This sounds like the "Saxophone" sound from an old Casio keyboard. Or a Yamaha PSR 17😂
It is Not a saxophone. it is a midi controller. what a sax sound, use a saxophone patch or play sax. His demo played the synth sounds from Respiro. geez.
Who would ever buy one of these? The sale of soprano saxes must have almost ceased and the makers are trying to invent a gimmick in order to rid themselves of their stocks. NO CHANCE!
I saw this at the workshop when it was being designed. They were so passionate about their work, I’m glad it’s doing well!

It's because digital saxophone patches sound like crap. No saxophone patch has yet been created that would ever come close to satisfying a sax player.
@@ninjaaron But maybe satisfying the ears of sax players is less important than satisfying their budgets and audiences.
If it should have one tone it should've been a saxaphone 😂

I just made my way through the different sounds the software comes with. It is all Mickey Mouse sounds. I'm really disappointed.
EMEO is an amazing instrument . It’s definitely the best digital sax I’ve ever played.
Great piece of tool. I really like how it emulates the look and feel of a real sax. This is great for working on technique. Thanks for sharing!

Does the Emeo come with that sax stand?
As I understand, the Emeo does not react to diaphragm Vibrato. At best it can produce a tremelo effect. Are there plans to address this anytime soon?
I have a question. I assume the sound is not produced by vibrating the reed like a traditional saxophone. So how do you do "tonguing" on this instrument to create a brief break? Or is there any other method that is only used on this instrument and other wind synths? Thanks.
Can you add vibrato with mouthpiece pressure? What about tonguing and articulation? Without that it's a hard no.
Tonguing and articulation, yes. Vibrato via lip, no but you can do a diaphragmatic Vibrato.

Do you sell the Emeo
What could this be played on as a beginner . Instead of midi isn’t there a program that u can hook onto to get alt, soprano, tenor, baritone sounds that’s all I need
No velocity?
Love the concept, but does no one have a truly authentic sax sound, they all sound like keyboard sounds?
No one. You can't replicate the sound of a saxophone electronically. Same with all acoustic instruments. Electronic sounds will always be electronic
@@jamieberlyn3038 Saxophone in particular is way worse (in terms of being electronically replicable) than any other instrument afaik. Synthetic flutes/clarinets/strings etc can sound passably accurate but nobody has "cracked" the saxophone yet.

It is a practice instrument, it is not meant to sound like a sax.
This is awesome but with economy so bad I won’t be able to get one for a long time 😩
Only £1526 !
Hmmm I'll have two!!
Don’t forget the extras!
$2600 AUD for EMEO
$200 AUD Respiro License (after discount)
$330 AUD for our BS government “High value import tax”
It looks great but I'd like to know how reliable it really is after dozens, hundreds of gigs?
Only time will tell I guess, but we have been advised that a UK service centre will be set-up in the coming months. I'm assuming they will be versed in dealing with electronic issues that come up.
Ok 👍🏾🎶🎵🎷
En español por favor
There goes my embouchure. But yeah, sure, could have been a nice little toy for 300 bucks.
JUST ANOTHER WIND DIGITAL SAX TAKING AWAY THE REALISTIC FEEL OF A REAL SAX WHICH DONT " CHEAT" REMEBER BASIC SAX PLAYING IS A SKILL NATUREL SOUND WITH BEUTY.
bro what
We get it but why you shout so bro?
GAMECHANGER
If I only need to practice in silence with sheet music is this too much tech? Just want alto sound. Acoustic not elec sound.
Why not demonstrate using an actual saxophone sound!?
too expensive :( :(
Have u guys seen this new OCTACONTRABASS SAX? ua-cam.com/video/O0-s38b1be4/v-deo.html.
The only one in the world made by Jelle Stainer
I'm not buying one because I'd have to remember the brand and model of my headphones, computer, phone, and software to answer, "Hey, man, what's your EMEO setup?"
Why don't these digital saxophone manufaturers partner with Swam engine so they have some realistic sounds and articulations. This sounds like the "Saxophone" sound from an old Casio keyboard. Or a Yamaha PSR 17😂
I sort of missed a proper saxophone sound coming from the instrument.
It is Not a saxophone. it is a midi controller. what a sax sound, use a saxophone patch or play sax. His demo played the synth sounds from Respiro. geez.
@@pneumasax Thank you for explaining this to an uninterested person like myself.
Sounds are horrible they should have paired with swam
OH BY THE WAY TO FRIGIN COMPLICATED .
Excluded bit control. One of the most expensive midi sax controllers. Unacceptable.
Too bad you can’t just use your own alto neck+your own setup.
Who would ever buy one of these? The sale of soprano saxes must have almost ceased and the makers are trying to invent a gimmick in order to rid themselves of their stocks. NO CHANCE!
