Thank you for your review. I'm considering buying a Sumiko Amethyst cartridge for my Rega P3 turntable. However, I'm concerned about matching my phono preamp, to the low output of the Amethyst cartridge. I have a Cambridge Audio Alva Duo, and it has a fixed, non-adjustable gain setting of 39 dB for moving magnet cartridges. Will this be a good match, or would I need a phono preamp with gain adjustments for 40 dB, 46 dB, and 52 dB, or perhaps even higher? I respect, and would appreciate your opinion.
Engaging review! I sold my noisy Rega 3 and picked up a Pro-Ject X-1B and very much wanted to add the Amethyst oyster to the standard Ranier shell, but the Amethyst has a different power requirement and is a different shell (can anyone confirm this)? That shell + oyster was just over my budget and instead went w/the Wellfleet which is step down but meets the Ranier shell's power stats. The Wellfleet has really broken in and is the best I have owned so far in the hobby...but would still like to hear the Amethyst!
I can not fully confirm that it should use the same shell and should work reinar and amethyst interchangeable. But I never tried that for myself. That wellfleet seems uber nice. I should demo it sometimes in the future. Thank you so much for watching, and love the... Lovless avatar you have there.
Very nice review, calm and clear explaining 👌

Don`t worry it is going to be enough. Mostly MM cartridges are not so sensitive, and Alva Duo are going to drive them correctly.
Rogue audio triton or ares , good phono stage ? Your opinion ?
Aposlutlly, it is great phono stage. It is a bit open, and detiled so it makes music fun. So yeah great one.
