Absolutely stunning video Derek, thank you for sharing. You have captured the beauty and magic of the work they do at lamberts beautifully and really strikes home how lucky we are here in the UK/Europe to still have some traditional ‘factories’ producing. And also reminds me how blessed I am to have been involved in this craft……
Wow! What an amazing insight into how glass is made. Fascinating and so much more manual work involved that I realised. You're right Derek, machines and Ai could never replicate this! So much skill and beautifully choreographed. I hope these skills are never lost!
captivating. uniquely skilled artisans. wonder about the process of becoming an artisan. do they have a well-developed apprenticeship program? how does an interested young person become involved? (I expect that the German apprenticeship programs are much more common than in other parts of the world.) as you say, it's the dance between artisans that is so impressive. how do you instill a sense of joy in the workplace that translates into a beautiful, prideful product. I expect that long hair and beards are discouraged. thank you for this. I imagine it was great fun for you.
Hi Tod, yes it was great fun to be there and a real privilege to see the glass melting master and glass blowers at work. I believe there is an apprenticeship program in place working in house. There are no plans to have a glass blowing school to teach others outside the factory however.
check out kokomo opalescent glass. they made all of tiffany's sheet glass, can make the same glass with the same recipes today, and even have most of the same equipment used to make the sheets for tiffany all those years ago. if you like lamberts cylinder blown work you will be blown away by streams of workers with ladles of molten glass going to the rolling table one by one hehe.
@@DerekHuntArtist be careful! during my visit they initiated me by putting the burning glass sleeve 2 centimeters from my face! 🥵 but I remained stoic ! 😏
@@DerekHuntArtist i get why they keep it local. they dont even really hire people from the next county, let alone the next country even though theres glassblowers all over the world whod absolutely pay to work there lol

Hi derek I'm relatively new to glass art that video was absolutely fantastic, the finished flat sheets must be so expensive but so nice to work with.

Would love to visit their factory one day! Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated Josh 🙂
One thing that didn't come across in a video is the immense heat generated from all the equipment.
I agree, it’s a powerful experience being close to these furnaces !
80% of my glass stock is from Lamberts
Cool!
What ? The world most beautiful glass is made by St Gobain in France ! 😂 come and visit and see !
Would love to visit one day!🙂
