Regarding the "dodging bullet=faster than sound argument" how do you know what caliber is being used, since there are also bullets that are as slow as 50 mph?
It's crazy that someone as powerful as Muruem would just be considered a demon level threat in OPM, really makes you realise how strong the verse is lmao.
Meruem after rebirth can easily be Dragon level. I mean, Bakuzan was Dragon level and he wasn't more impressive than Meruem before rebirth. Bakuzan's flurry of punches were enough to severely beat up Suiryu who's feats put him at a much lower level than even Netero. Netero's Hatsu (100 hand buddha) is similar to Bakuzans flurry of punches, but maybe even stronger (since it punched through layers of ground and sand, eventually breaking into a tomb down below. While in Bakuzan's case, he barely did any damage to the ground that he was punching. And Meruem easily tanked all of Netero's (buddha) punches with barely any damage. Meaning that Meruem could defeat the low Dragon Bakuzan. But an argument can also be made for DSK in that he was naturally from the deep sea, so that would mean that in the sea, he could have also been a dragon level.
@@GuyLogen Bakuzan has literally no feats tho? Suriyu might be on the level of some weaker s class hero's, and you see how DSK just destoyed puri, and he's only demon level. Bakuzan was toying with Suriyu, he is a martial artist and wanted to show him how much stronger he is then Suriyu. Atherwise he could have just one shot him if he wanted too. And instantly after that Bakuzan fought saitama, and we all know how that ended for him. Mereum is definitly not dragon level.

He wanted to make Suiryu suffer and humiliate him sure, but he was still aggressively jumping and pounding on him without seemingly withholding anything. He thought he was the shit until Gouketsu in one punch blew out part of the stadium they were in, which humbled Bakuzan. Yet he was still classified as a dragon level. When comparing Meruem and Suiryu, it would be foolish to say that Suiryu has better durability than Meruem. Meruem easily tanked Netero's flurry of Buddha punches with no visible damage. He even tanked a concentrated nen blast with only a few scratches. So I think Meruem could rank as a low Dragon easily. For the record, I think Bakuzan loses to Netero as well.
Beeing a threat to all of humanity is scary and all, but it also heavily depends of humanitys power level in that world. Even if meruem beats dsk with ease, he would be folded by king!

@@indirectinsult That is an excellent point, one which I don't often see brought up in versus debates between blast-capable characters. Not every blast they throw packs their full destructive power, if it did then the further up the power scale you go the more likely they would be to blow the planet out from under themselves by accident. Another thing to consider is _what_ they're throwing around. Deep Sea King's biggest advantage is his regen ability, fire and physical force could hurt him, but couldn't deal lasting damage at the intensity Genos was using. Basic Nen attacks on the other hand can rip unprotected bodies to pieces from the inside and cause crippling agony that lasts for hours, and the Deep Sea king didn't show any form of energy control skills that I can recall which means that he's likely wide open.

I think referring to Meruem walking past Netero and Zeno as a feat is a mistake. That wasn't due to any speed or skill on Meruem's part. Zeno and Netero were so shocked by seeing Netero caring for a human that they let their guard down and forgot how dangerous he was. He didn't blitz them. He just walked past them normally.

Ok, my take before you watching the video. If it's Pre-Rose Bomb Meruem, then probably Deep Sea King probably wins. If it's Post-Rose Bomb Meruem, then Meruem just fucking nukes.
Oh shit, I was spot on. I disagree with some of the scaling, but that's bound to happen when comparing characters from different series. Overall it was pretty good.
HxH just does such an amazing job at showing how powerful characters are that even very obvious match ups with characters from HxH often make me think. I think that's why people often consider characters from hxh to be god level threats that scale to the Naruto or DBZ or OMP or whatever verse, since they are just so menacing and intimidating.
You could also consider the deep sea king retreating to the sea for a stat and regen amp, he gained a lot from being rained on, so he would gain much more from being in there if our at a disadvantage. But he would only be forced to retreat to the sea against maybe merged meruem.
That's true. Only the rain was touching him and he became vastly more powerful. Imagine deep in the ocean where there's water in every nook and cranny with much higher water pressure
I’d argue that Deep Sea Kings durability could possibly be way higher than Meruems. Remember that deep sea king in his dry form, was relative to Genos. The same Genos who (even before his upgrade post Carnage Kabuto) was able to completely destroy a tower with arm canon blast and output a blast that cleared out mosquitos in multiple city blocks. Deep Sea King then goes on to fight an upgraded Genos who takes punches and blasts from him that barely put a scratch on him and/or regenerates from them. And he only grows in power in his true form
I'do also argue that Meruem durability is way WAY higher than Deep Sea King by one random squadron ant feat, Killua took an explosion to the face worth 1.400 Tons of TNT which its scales higher than that Genos and Hammerhead followers feats 💀
yeah dawg but a nuke is way stronger than just some arm canon blast, A nuke evaporates islands, and thats what it took to bring meruem down, so I would definitely easily say that Meruem's durability is higher than Deep sea kings durability.
I also think that deep sea king wouldnt be able to withstand a nuke just because one, it would be super hot, and it would literally evaporate any form of moisture in him, weakening him, and eventually evaporating deep sea king.
It took a nuke to defeat Meruem, and even then he wasn't fully evaporated. Plus he got revived to be even stronger than his previous form. I just don't see DSK surviving a nuke or even half of a nuke. But then again, it took 1 punch from saitama, which was capable of clearing the rain from the perceivable city, to kill DSK in his "rain form". This is all not even considering just how powerful DSK could get underwater. You could make an argument that DSK underwater is probably easily Dragon level and would be able to defeat Meruem, considering that DSK can also regenerate. His regeneration under light rain was great enough to heal a blasted cheek from Genos which blew a large hole through multiple apartment buildings.
Reading the comments i could see that many people are creating their own circumstances so meruem ends up winning. I mean, i love him as much as the next guy, but i think a lot of people are kinda biased... Just my opinion tho
Even so, you can't say they are wrong, since hxh doesn't give enough info to say how powerful meruen is. IMO meruen is stronger than DSK, since I think Meruen can deliver stronger attacks than Uvogin, which had delivered strikes strong enough to create a creater several meters wide in solic rock.
DSK might lose only due to his pride.... numerous times he takes shots from the heroes as a way to break their morale, he'd undoubtedly try this with Meruem Question is if any hit really can OHKO the DSK outside of Saitama's infinite and instant power... if you can't OHKO the DSK, then you lose

I think classifying Meruem so low is a little unfair, considering he never encountered a situation where he required to use anything more than his physical and mental capacities. His Nen is a wildcard that, faced with a superior opponent not resorting to a super poison nuke he had no prior knowledge of, could have been utilised to create a Nen ability that would drastically boost his combat abilities or provide him hax to deal with others. I'd argue Dragon level, especially if he got the chance to eat and utilise Monster Cells.
bro it's a straight fight. Who in their right mind would consider giving an amp from one universe to another. If Genos was defeated by Deep Sea King, a Demon Level Threat, then there is no way Mereum is Dragon Level. Genos literally got one shot by Gouketsu, a Dragon Level Threat.

I only added the monster cells as an out-of-battle consideration for Meruem if he was simply placed in the OPM world, since the video discusses his potential class. The difference between gaining Nen and monster cells is that 1) A Monster Cell is an available resource in the OPM universe, and at some point in the video they mentioned placing Meruem in the world of OPM. 2) Meruem's entire species is able to adopt beneficial traits from other species, and monster cells give beneficial traits to anyone that consumes them. Chances are it would happen. 3) Assuming DSK somehow got Nen, and accessed it, sure. He'd kick Meruem around even more than before. He wins in pure physical stats and thus a brawl, *assuming he didn't drag out fights like he tends to and give Meruem a chance to develop a Nen ability to even the playing field.*

I don't think people realize that the OPM is a parody universe where the insane power scaling is graded on a curve set by Saitama. If Mumen Rider was transferred to the HxH universe, he'd probably be able to 1 shot, or 1 bicycle, Meruem.
Gotta keep in mind that even in "serious battle" meruem refused to go full power since he had NOT kill netero in order to learn his name. To me that kinda means he was only at 50% power and still casually intentionally tanking tens of thousands of hits with 0 damage and his strength even unable to be used since it would instantly kill netero or destroy the arena etc
we have seen Nen being able to cripple a non-nen user and considering the versatility of Nen I think Meruem is at least dragon level threat since he can just put restrictions on his ability to gain immense power like Gon or kurapika nen can literally bend the fabric of reality as can be seen from Basho's poem skill, all you need is an abundance of nen and a bit of creativity to cripple his opponent's vital abilities such as regeneration Nen is truly horrifying, just look at Killua's sister...
Meruem only used the very basic Nen abilities. At no point in the series did Mereum develop his own true Nen ability. When opposed by someone like DSK who is faster/stronger then its a high probability that Mereum would create an actual Nen ability to help him win the battle. I see this as a no contest because HxH's Nen system is designed so that weaker characters can still defeat stronger characters through intelligent use of Nen. And DSK isn't that much stronger/faster that Mereum's incredible intelligence and Nen use couldn't turn the tide.
So you’re relying on plot armour to get him to win. Meruem would die before he could develop his true Nen ability. Nothing Meruem has come up with can even put a dent in DSK

i would say tho that it is stated that in less than a minute, Netero and Meruem traded hundreds of thousand of blows, and that is with Meruem bwing blown away each time, having to recover and leap back, i would say that this statement should re evaluate Netero and Meruem's speed by a good margin. But bypassing the DSK regen would indeed be very hard. On a side note, catching a bullet requires reaction time around speed of sound, however that doesn't automatically mean you can also run at the speed of sound, ad even if you could, it would be probably tiring to do it for a long period of time, however we did see Cheetu doing that because it wasn't only his reaction time but also his movement speed to be at that level.
The thing about HxH is that bullets really become something very irrelevant as soon as nen comes into play. Nen has so much different applications and abilities that for me, characters in HxH don't need to be as fast as ligthning to dodge and catch them. I think a good example of that is nobunaga. Nobunaga has never displayed any nen ability other than En, and he said and proved that anybody who would enter his En's range would be instantly killed. To me, when you start mastering nen in HxH, catching, dodging, destroying bullets etc becomes almost instinctive. Another argument I think is interesting is that some people are able to give clear orders to their nen, so, I'd say it's pretty easy from this to print into your instinct, at least when a nen ability is used, to dodge a bullet. Not trying to argue with the end result of the versus, just wanted to extend on the bullet dodging, catching, etc in HxH
1:13 I think mereum was just being generous at this point, since Netero was just moving his arms, while mereu, was jumping from pillar to pillar to attack netero, so just imagin how fast was mereum moving to be able to outspeed netero.
I feel like there is one thing that people always forget about nen in the hunter x hunter universe when doing these kinds of comparison with other anime, and that is that you can basically only defend against nen by using nen yourself. If you can't at least use Ten, just being inside the aura of another person would be enough to cause some major psychological damage that would prevent you from fighting at your best. In fact, you would barely be able to approach that person due to the incredible pressure that they would exert. Taking a nen attack without defending with your own nen would immediately cause severe damage, regardless of your natural durability, especially if that attack was dealt with the intent to kill. Nen is a supernatural ability, and it shouldn't be considered just as a mere physical enhancement ability.
I’m not sure how true this could be my head canon is when hisoka did it he is actively projecting nen that non nen user can feel same with other characters except wing who I think his nen projection is a hastu because it seems to be able to awaken nen in people
@@simonservsuck6711 What Hisoka did was simply releasing his aura using Ren with malicious intent. It wasn't even an attack, it was just Gon and Killua basically standing in Hisoka's aura and just that was enough to paralyse them with fear to the point they couldn't even approach him and go past him in the corridor. Learning Ten was enough for them to be able to withstand that kind of pressure but I want to point out that even Ten might not be enough to withstand the incredible pressure of post bomb meruem's aura. Welfin is a nen user capable of using Ten, but when confronted with Meruem, his pressure was enough to cause not only severe psychological damage but also physical changes (lost of hair, rapid aging due to extreme stress).

also you're forgetting blatant context, Meruems goal wasn't to kill Netero, his goal was to learn his name which is why he calculated all of his attacking points to he could bounce back every time wait till netero messes up his pattern then take his limb. He took 1000 blows which left decent sized craters in the ground so 1000 of those in 1 minutes is atleast small town, if we're ignoring that we can also just say he sent pitou flying

Yeah he downplayed Meruem speed by downplaying Pitou's speed despite her showing a feat of mach 100 and saying stuff like "the author..." and nerfing Netero's speed at high hypersonic 💀 Also the calcs put Pre-Rose Meruem at 7-B (City level) and Post-Rose Meruem at 7-A (Mountain level) with speed at Massively Hypersonic+ while the calcs for DSK put them somewhere in 7-C (Town level) and his speed at high hypersonic
I think you massively underrated muruem here, if you noticed the fight between him and nitero you'll see he wasn't even trying to fight, he didn't want to fight, but when he decided to he easily defeated nitero with no difficulty, also he wasn't really given the chance to show his true power and his nen abilities and he wasn't pushed to his limit niether in speed nor in power and he was just playing until nitero used the rose bomb that meruem had no knowledge or understanding of. I'd say he would be at least dragon level, especially if he has time to properly train
Also youpis explosion made a crater 121 meters wide, and 13 meters deep, and was scaled to Vs battle wiki being 467 Kiloton of TNT, which is Large Town level, and Hammerheads punch was scaled to be Multi-City Block by Vs battle wiki, so theres no comparison
Anyone saying Meruem is a god level threat in just wrong. Even in HxH he was only given a B rank. The actual scary one would be the chimera ant queen, since she would probably lay stronger eggs and have stronger soldiers due to consuming people with more potential. The average one punch man character would be hundreds of times stronger than the average hxh character. A Meruem born from a consumed a-class hero might be strong enough yo even give Boros a run for his money, but the ant queen would have to find a location to setup for like a month without being found almost straight away
I think we have to include the fact Meruem wasnt ever using more than basic techniques that everyone can do since he didnt need them. If he was forced to make abilities for the sake of winning the fight, he could win considering how much stronger nen abilities get with each restriction. (post rose Meruem i mean)

Tbh, even if post rose meruem's AP scales to deep sea king arc genos, i'd still highly doubt that meruem would win against deep sea king. Even with genos's AP, deep sea king still only considers the damage genos put on him was "a scratch" meaning that he could survive against an even higher AP attacks. Meruem could win against deep sea king on a very specific circumstances and conditions, but other than that, deep sea king outlasts meruem and beats him out of the competition. Deep sea king wins 8/10 of the time. And don't even think that meruem's wings would help him here. He can treat meruem the same way he treats sonic.

Pre rose Meruem gets absolutely slammed but post rose is more contentious You may say that Meruem’s rage blast can dehydrate and weaken the deep sea king, but he tanked an incinerator from a Genos stronger than the house of evolution arc, who could vaporize several mountain ranges. In my opinion Meruem’s best chance of winning is if he creates a nen ability to counter deep sea king
Saying meruem’s strength is greater than his durability because he ripped off his own arm it’s a massive stretch. His durability comes from fortifying his body with his immense amount of nen. It is likely that he just didn’t fortify his arm with nen so he could tear it off easily
Genos’s punch is something that we probably have seen in hunter x hunter, as I’d say that Meruem blowing up the plateau was of similar effect\strength.
The real problem with Meruem in the OPM verse is that he would drastically increase in power if he defeats even one enemy and eats them. The Chimera ants are scary because they can grow based on the verse they land in and adapt to it's power level and beyond.

i love meruem and i am normally saying "hes stronger than you think", but i kind cant see him doing much to deep sea king, opm characters are just too broken
What makes Meruem truly terrifying is his massive growth in a little over a month. His power and speed exceeded someone who trained all his life, his battle IQ was genius level after only playing a few games of Gungi with Komugi and this was all with basic understanding of Nen. If he were in the One-Punch Man verse, Meruem would be the type to break his limitter and become Saitama-level.
Being like this means his limiter would be set high and hard to break and removing it even harder. Removing a limiter completley requires a low set limiter to make it easier / possible.
There may have been a very important element to Meruem that increases his threat level in a world like OPM and against opposition like DSK. The tremendous buffs that Meruem gets from eating strong beings. If he ended up consuming a part of DSK it could dramatically change the outcome of that battle.
Meruem ripping off his own arm shouldn’t be seen as such an impressive strength feats since he could just lower the nen enhancement in one arm and increase the other. DSK also took significant damage from Genos blast shown by his amp even getting reverted. DSK, mid diffs base meruem, and high diffs Rose.
Netero was able to break through at least several feet of solid rock when he was forcing Meruem into the tomb for their fight, and that was an easy feat for him. If a character cannot destroy an ENTIRE building in one fell swoop, then it’s disingenuous to say that that character has building-level feats when, in actuality, they’re only really strong enough to destroy some incredibly hard compounds like concrete or the bomb shelter.

Post-Rose meruem attack on the plateu was calculated to be 600 megatons strong, even if it was 1000 times weaker it would still kill any demon level monster of opm and some dragons too
You don't understand how threat levels work, do you? To be a God level threat, one needs to threaten the whole of humanity. Not like going around and killing people but destroying the planet in one fell swoop like Boros or Garou. Meruem is Dragon level at best. He can destroy a city at best.
Great video, that blooper take at the end was hilarious. I do think you're underestimating Meruem's speed by a huge margin though. During the one minute long battle with Netero's Bodhisattva Guanyin he wasn't just standing in one spot and getting pummeled, both sides made thousands of plays in that minute. I have no idea where that would put him on the Mach scale, but it should be at least above Sonic's level.

Why do people keep saying the cockroach moves at light speed, it was stated in the manga he was only able to dodge things moving at light speed because he could see their intentions before they do their attack meaning he could just simply dodge the attack before the attack was even thrown so he doesn't move at light speed but can only dodge things moving at light speed

Hxh speed scaling is disgustengly dowplayed. The Statement even clearly says that netero has surpassed the speed of sound by a consiserable margin and nothing implies relativity. One thing that would actually give Meruem the edge is the fact that none nen users have no way of protecting themselves from nen. Regardless of durability it was stated that using Nen on a none user is like someone going into a blizzard without any clothes on. So I think most of HXH can solo most other versus simply because you can kill someone with nen aura alone
My statement about One Punch Man being a world where multiple main characters got exported out of their own series and put into a world where they don't have plot armor seems to hold true again.
HxH doesn't want characters that can blow up planets since it makes the story silly. HxH characters are weaker than most anime characters since Togashi had no desire to make characters so obserdly powerful.
HxH interestingly explore more on tension and competition. The characters tend to be scary and threatening without necessarily making everyone planet busters
The fights are more strategetic and outplaying your opponent than stuff like dragonball where you get power ups from nowhere or invent a new technique after almost dying.

the only think that I would add is how meruem as both a specialists and a genius could probably develope a nen ability in the middle of a fight that its personalized to beat the opponent in front of him, the only time he fought was against someone he could beat just with his physical stats but I can see him doing sth like that but not really against an opponent who suprass him in everything and probably wouldn't give him enough margin to develop and ability

I think the issue might be that you're trying to compare damage based on how much collateral damage it does. That's like saying a club is better than a sword because it can smash a melon while the sword only cuts a small line through it. Similarly a solid slug rail-gun shell hitting something and causing a small impact explosion will often carry more power than a traditional shell which carries a payload to create a chemically aided explosion. So in this example, comparing their abilities based on how much they seemed to destroy isn't accurate. Plus, there's no accounting for the building itself. A modern skyscraper is likely to be more solid than an old stone palace, for example. Especially if the palace is made of something like sandstone. Much like with my example of a sword vs a club, the way people fight in Hunter X Hunter is much more precise. In One Punch Man you have people throwing very powerful but careless punches sending destructive shockwaves out. Meanwhile in Hunter Hunter you often see people with their hand outstretched, chopping rather than punching, or using pure nen attacks which might not even have air resistance act on them. So a hit from Netero might seem less damaging but it might carry much more force, just focused on a smaller area. Similarly Meruem cuts off limbs rather than slapping Netero's leg and shattering half his body. I think Meruem is much stronger than the Deep Sea King. I mean, the deep sea king gives Mumen Rider quite a thrashing and he's just a normal human, but he survives. Meruem on the other hand has taken the head off other chimera ants, killing them instantly with just a flick of his tail, and they're much more sturdy than humans. While the Deep Sea King can regenerate quickly, he probably still has the same weakness many regenerating characters have, which is that the destruction of some vital part, usually the brain, will kill them or wipe their memories. Or that they can be paralyzed or even run out of nutrients from which they grow limbs in a battle of attrition, etc. So Meruem's precision strikes would likely bypass the regeneration of the Deep Sea King entirely. Power aside, Meruem might still lose on speed. Though I'm sure he would come up with a classic counterattack strategy like the whole "hit me where it's not vital so I can restrain you" self-sacrifice technique, or if he's simply fast enough to match any attacks sent toward him he could win in a fist to fist clash. It's honestly very hard to judge much about One Punch Man's power levels. They're often quite flexible due to the comedic nature of the show. The best example is when Saitama can't beat Bang at a test of speed and reflexes, even though he trounced a crazy fast star being. Or how he couldn't catch a single mosquito. When it suits the comedy or drama One Punch Man's power system takes a back seat. I think that's why Mumen Rider survives as well. Most conflicts do tend to be drama based. Ultimately I'd put my money on Meruem winning.
I don't think meruem would be able to kill deep sea king but i also dont think the deep sea king would be able to kill Meruem. Meruem would likely eventually see it as a futile effort to try to kill him and it would end in a stalemate
7:53 I'd be willing to chalk it up to Uvo not so much catching the bullet mid fight and more he's just so fucking durable the bullet just got stuck. Yeah, it seems a silly thing to consider at first, but Uvo is also one of the strongest enhancers in the world. Even by late Hunter x Hunter standards, he's an absolute monster.
One thing to keep in mind when scaling the Ant King to Netero is the context of their fight. You noted that his defence is the only thing that allowed him to defeat Netero, but he was specifically only aiming to make the chairman concede so he could learn his own name. His attack potency was enough to remove limbs instantly after closing the distance, but killing Netero was never his goal, so his true max ceiling for his damage was never even brushed against. His defence was the only thing that allowed him to win, but that's because killing Netero instantly wouldn't have been a victory, not because he couldn't theoretically do it. The only stats that can be concretely determined from this are his speed (he's faster than Netero in every way except for attack speed) and his durability (being able to survive a point blank small-scale nuclear bomb's blast, albeit pushing the very limits of his durability).
I don't disagree with the conclusion of their fight or anything though, the OPM universe scales way beyond HxH and it's always really interesting to see an endgame enemy being a relatively fair opponent for one so early in another show.
What I don't understand is like, isn't the speed of light a constant in all Inertial reference frames? How does an anime character even approach that speed when even a fraction of it would require practically infinite force?
Meruem is scary in OPM verse because he would definitely kill monsters and then eat them for there abilities. Alot of monsters can give most a run for there money, expect like 8 characters.

Meruem after rebirth can easily be Dragon level. I mean, Bakuzan was Dragon level and he wasn't more impressive than Meruem before rebirth.
Bakuzan's flurry of punches were enough to severely beat up Suiryu who's feats put him at a much lower level than even Netero. Netero's Hatsu (100 hand buddha) is similar to Bakuzans flurry of punches, but maybe even stronger (since it punched through layers of ground and sand, eventually breaking into a tomb down below.
While in Bakuzan's case, he barely did any damage to the ground that he was punching. And Meruem easily tanked all of Netero's (buddha) punches with barely any damage. Meaning that Meruem could defeat the low Dragon Bakuzan.
But an argument can also be made for DSK in that he was naturally from the deep sea, so that would mean that in the sea, he could have also been a dragon level.

Yet he was still classified as a dragon level. When comparing Meruem and Suiryu, it would be foolish to say that Suiryu has better durability than Meruem. Meruem easily tanked Netero's flurry of Buddha punches with no visible damage. He even tanked a concentrated nen blast with only a few scratches. So I think Meruem could rank as a low Dragon easily.

That is an excellent point, one which I don't often see brought up in versus debates between blast-capable characters.
Not every blast they throw packs their full destructive power, if it did then the further up the power scale you go the more likely they would be to blow the planet out from under themselves by accident.
Another thing to consider is _what_ they're throwing around.
Deep Sea King's biggest advantage is his regen ability, fire and physical force could hurt him, but couldn't deal lasting damage at the intensity Genos was using. Basic Nen attacks on the other hand can rip unprotected bodies to pieces from the inside and cause crippling agony that lasts for hours, and the Deep Sea king didn't show any form of energy control skills that I can recall which means that he's likely wide open.

I think referring to Meruem walking past Netero and Zeno as a feat is a mistake. That wasn't due to any speed or skill on Meruem's part. Zeno and Netero were so shocked by seeing Netero caring for a human that they let their guard down and forgot how dangerous he was. He didn't blitz them. He just walked past them normally.

HxH just does such an amazing job at showing how powerful characters are that even very obvious match ups with characters from HxH often make me think. I think that's why people often consider characters from hxh to be god level threats that scale to the Naruto or DBZ or OMP or whatever verse, since they are just so menacing and intimidating.

I’d argue that Deep Sea Kings durability could possibly be way higher than Meruems. Remember that deep sea king in his dry form, was relative to Genos. The same Genos who (even before his upgrade post Carnage Kabuto) was able to completely destroy a tower with arm canon blast and output a blast that cleared out mosquitos in multiple city blocks. Deep Sea King then goes on to fight an upgraded Genos who takes punches and blasts from him that barely put a scratch on him and/or regenerates from them. And he only grows in power in his true form
I'do also argue that Meruem durability is way WAY higher than Deep Sea King by one random squadron ant feat, Killua took an explosion to the face worth 1.400 Tons of TNT which its scales higher than that Genos and Hammerhead followers feats 💀

I also think that deep sea king wouldnt be able to withstand a nuke just because one, it would be super hot, and it would literally evaporate any form of moisture in him, weakening him, and eventually evaporating deep sea king.

It took a nuke to defeat Meruem, and even then he wasn't fully evaporated. Plus he got revived to be even stronger than his previous form. I just don't see DSK surviving a nuke or even half of a nuke. But then again, it took 1 punch from saitama, which was capable of clearing the rain from the perceivable city, to kill DSK in his "rain form".
This is all not even considering just how powerful DSK could get underwater. You could make an argument that DSK underwater is probably easily Dragon level and would be able to defeat Meruem, considering that DSK can also regenerate.
His regeneration under light rain was great enough to heal a blasted cheek from Genos which blew a large hole through multiple apartment buildings.

I think classifying Meruem so low is a little unfair, considering he never encountered a situation where he required to use anything more than his physical and mental capacities.
His Nen is a wildcard that, faced with a superior opponent not resorting to a super poison nuke he had no prior knowledge of, could have been utilised to create a Nen ability that would drastically boost his combat abilities or provide him hax to deal with others.
I'd argue Dragon level, especially if he got the chance to eat and utilise Monster Cells.

The difference between gaining Nen and monster cells is that 1) A Monster Cell is an available resource in the OPM universe, and at some point in the video they mentioned placing Meruem in the world of OPM.
2) Meruem's entire species is able to adopt beneficial traits from other species, and monster cells give beneficial traits to anyone that consumes them. Chances are it would happen.
3) Assuming DSK somehow got Nen, and accessed it, sure. He'd kick Meruem around even more than before. He wins in pure physical stats and thus a brawl, *assuming he didn't drag out fights like he tends to and give Meruem a chance to develop a Nen ability to even the playing field.*

When opposed by someone like DSK who is faster/stronger then its a high probability that Mereum would create an actual Nen ability to help him win the battle.
I see this as a no contest because HxH's Nen system is designed so that weaker characters can still defeat stronger characters through intelligent use of Nen.
And DSK isn't that much stronger/faster that Mereum's incredible intelligence and Nen use couldn't turn the tide.

i would say tho that it is stated that in less than a minute, Netero and Meruem traded hundreds of thousand of blows, and that is with Meruem bwing blown away each time, having to recover and leap back, i would say that this statement should re evaluate Netero and Meruem's speed by a good margin. But bypassing the DSK regen would indeed be very hard.
On a side note, catching a bullet requires reaction time around speed of sound, however that doesn't automatically mean you can also run at the speed of sound, ad even if you could, it would be probably tiring to do it for a long period of time, however we did see Cheetu doing that because it wasn't only his reaction time but also his movement speed to be at that level.
The thing about HxH is that bullets really become something very irrelevant as soon as nen comes into play. Nen has so much different applications and abilities that for me, characters in HxH don't need to be as fast as ligthning to dodge and catch them. I think a good example of that is nobunaga. Nobunaga has never displayed any nen ability other than En, and he said and proved that anybody who would enter his En's range would be instantly killed. To me, when you start mastering nen in HxH, catching, dodging, destroying bullets etc becomes almost instinctive. Another argument I think is interesting is that some people are able to give clear orders to their nen, so, I'd say it's pretty easy from this to print into your instinct, at least when a nen ability is used, to dodge a bullet.
Not trying to argue with the end result of the versus, just wanted to extend on the bullet dodging, catching, etc in HxH

I feel like there is one thing that people always forget about nen in the hunter x hunter universe when doing these kinds of comparison with other anime, and that is that you can basically only defend against nen by using nen yourself. If you can't at least use Ten, just being inside the aura of another person would be enough to cause some major psychological damage that would prevent you from fighting at your best. In fact, you would barely be able to approach that person due to the incredible pressure that they would exert. Taking a nen attack without defending with your own nen would immediately cause severe damage, regardless of your natural durability, especially if that attack was dealt with the intent to kill. Nen is a supernatural ability, and it shouldn't be considered just as a mere physical enhancement ability.

It wasn't even an attack, it was just Gon and Killua basically standing in Hisoka's aura and just that was enough to paralyse them with fear to the point they couldn't even approach him and go past him in the corridor. Learning Ten was enough for them to be able to withstand that kind of pressure but I want to point out that even Ten might not be enough to withstand the incredible pressure of post bomb meruem's aura. Welfin is a nen user capable of using Ten, but when confronted with Meruem, his pressure was enough to cause not only severe psychological damage but also physical changes (lost of hair, rapid aging due to extreme stress).

I think you massively underrated muruem here, if you noticed the fight between him and nitero you'll see he wasn't even trying to fight, he didn't want to fight, but when he decided to he easily defeated nitero with no difficulty, also he wasn't really given the chance to show his true power and his nen abilities and he wasn't pushed to his limit niether in speed nor in power and he was just playing until nitero used the rose bomb that meruem had no knowledge or understanding of. I'd say he would be at least dragon level, especially if he has time to properly train

Anyone saying Meruem is a god level threat in just wrong. Even in HxH he was only given a B rank. The actual scary one would be the chimera ant queen, since she would probably lay stronger eggs and have stronger soldiers due to consuming people with more potential. The average one punch man character would be hundreds of times stronger than the average hxh character. A Meruem born from a consumed a-class hero might be strong enough yo even give Boros a run for his money, but the ant queen would have to find a location to setup for like a month without being found almost straight away
I think we have to include the fact Meruem wasnt ever using more than basic techniques that everyone can do since he didnt need them. If he was forced to make abilities for the sake of winning the fight, he could win considering how much stronger nen abilities get with each restriction. (post rose Meruem i mean)

Tbh, even if post rose meruem's AP scales to deep sea king arc genos, i'd still highly doubt that meruem would win against deep sea king. Even with genos's AP, deep sea king still only considers the damage genos put on him was "a scratch" meaning that he could survive against an even higher AP attacks. Meruem could win against deep sea king on a very specific circumstances and conditions, but other than that, deep sea king outlasts meruem and beats him out of the competition. Deep sea king wins 8/10 of the time.

Saying meruem’s strength is greater than his durability because he ripped off his own arm it’s a massive stretch. His durability comes from fortifying his body with his immense amount of nen. It is likely that he just didn’t fortify his arm with nen so he could tear it off easily
Genos’s punch is something that we probably have seen in hunter x hunter, as I’d say that Meruem blowing up the plateau was of similar effect\strength.
The real problem with Meruem in the OPM verse is that he would drastically increase in power if he defeats even one enemy and eats them. The Chimera ants are scary because they can grow based on the verse they land in and adapt to it's power level and beyond.

What makes Meruem truly terrifying is his massive growth in a little over a month. His power and speed exceeded someone who trained all his life, his battle IQ was genius level after only playing a few games of Gungi with Komugi and this was all with basic understanding of Nen. If he were in the One-Punch Man verse, Meruem would be the type to break his limitter and become Saitama-level.

Netero was able to break through at least several feet of solid rock when he was forcing Meruem into the tomb for their fight, and that was an easy feat for him. If a character cannot destroy an ENTIRE building in one fell swoop, then it’s disingenuous to say that that character has building-level feats when, in actuality, they’re only really strong enough to destroy some incredibly hard compounds like concrete or the bomb shelter.

One thing that would actually give Meruem the edge is the fact that none nen users have no way of protecting themselves from nen.
Regardless of durability it was stated that using Nen on a none user is like someone going into a blizzard without any clothes on. So I think most of HXH can solo most other versus simply because you can kill someone with nen aura alone

HxH interestingly explore more on tension and competition. The characters tend to be scary and threatening without necessarily making everyone planet busters
The fights are more strategetic and outplaying your opponent than stuff like dragonball where you get power ups from nowhere or invent a new technique after almost dying.

The issue you are missing is Meruem's forced evolutionary ability with whatever his species eats which is why they were so dangerous to begin with.
I think the issue might be that you're trying to compare damage based on how much collateral damage it does. That's like saying a club is better than a sword because it can smash a melon while the sword only cuts a small line through it. Similarly a solid slug rail-gun shell hitting something and causing a small impact explosion will often carry more power than a traditional shell which carries a payload to create a chemically aided explosion.
So in this example, comparing their abilities based on how much they seemed to destroy isn't accurate. Plus, there's no accounting for the building itself. A modern skyscraper is likely to be more solid than an old stone palace, for example. Especially if the palace is made of something like sandstone.
Much like with my example of a sword vs a club, the way people fight in Hunter X Hunter is much more precise. In One Punch Man you have people throwing very powerful but careless punches sending destructive shockwaves out. Meanwhile in Hunter Hunter you often see people with their hand outstretched, chopping rather than punching, or using pure nen attacks which might not even have air resistance act on them. So a hit from Netero might seem less damaging but it might carry much more force, just focused on a smaller area. Similarly Meruem cuts off limbs rather than slapping Netero's leg and shattering half his body.
I think Meruem is much stronger than the Deep Sea King. I mean, the deep sea king gives Mumen Rider quite a thrashing and he's just a normal human, but he survives. Meruem on the other hand has taken the head off other chimera ants, killing them instantly with just a flick of his tail, and they're much more sturdy than humans. While the Deep Sea King can regenerate quickly, he probably still has the same weakness many regenerating characters have, which is that the destruction of some vital part, usually the brain, will kill them or wipe their memories. Or that they can be paralyzed or even run out of nutrients from which they grow limbs in a battle of attrition, etc.
So Meruem's precision strikes would likely bypass the regeneration of the Deep Sea King entirely.
Power aside, Meruem might still lose on speed. Though I'm sure he would come up with a classic counterattack strategy like the whole "hit me where it's not vital so I can restrain you" self-sacrifice technique, or if he's simply fast enough to match any attacks sent toward him he could win in a fist to fist clash.
It's honestly very hard to judge much about One Punch Man's power levels. They're often quite flexible due to the comedic nature of the show. The best example is when Saitama can't beat Bang at a test of speed and reflexes, even though he trounced a crazy fast star being. Or how he couldn't catch a single mosquito. When it suits the comedy or drama One Punch Man's power system takes a back seat. I think that's why Mumen Rider survives as well. Most conflicts do tend to be drama based.
Ultimately I'd put my money on Meruem winning.

7:53 I'd be willing to chalk it up to Uvo not so much catching the bullet mid fight and more he's just so fucking durable the bullet just got stuck. Yeah, it seems a silly thing to consider at first, but Uvo is also one of the strongest enhancers in the world. Even by late Hunter x Hunter standards, he's an absolute monster.
One thing to keep in mind when scaling the Ant King to Netero is the context of their fight.
You noted that his defence is the only thing that allowed him to defeat Netero, but he was specifically only aiming to make the chairman concede so he could learn his own name. His attack potency was enough to remove limbs instantly after closing the distance, but killing Netero was never his goal, so his true max ceiling for his damage was never even brushed against. His defence was the only thing that allowed him to win, but that's because killing Netero instantly wouldn't have been a victory, not because he couldn't theoretically do it.
The only stats that can be concretely determined from this are his speed (he's faster than Netero in every way except for attack speed) and his durability (being able to survive a point blank small-scale nuclear bomb's blast, albeit pushing the very limits of his durability).
I don't disagree with the conclusion of their fight or anything though, the OPM universe scales way beyond HxH and it's always really interesting to see an endgame enemy being a relatively fair opponent for one so early in another show.
What I don't understand is like, isn't the speed of light a constant in all Inertial reference frames? How does an anime character even approach that speed when even a fraction of it would require practically infinite force?

Meruem is scary in OPM verse because he would definitely kill monsters and then eat them for there abilities. Alot of monsters can give most a run for there money, expect like 8 characters.
Them reacting to bullets doesn't necessarily mean their movement speed matches, reaction speed isn't always the same as combat or movement speed
