    So you don't use your left leg when he has to follow or your right leg when he has to stay sit?

      ​@@hampshirespanieltrainingwi9314I know that dogs doing obedience training are trained to stay put if you move off with the right (opposite) leg first and to expect to be recalled to you ie a 'wait' and not a 'stay' command, if you move off with the left (closest) leg first. I think this is what Judith may mean here.
