I personally like attempting to move fast enough that I invade the Soviets while they are fighting the Winter War. It’s challenging, but nothing screams “oh sh*t” faster than unexpectedly tripling the length of the front lines. If you want to go really f*cking fast, you could even beat them from annexing the Baltics. I haven’t pulled that off yet. If you’re a total chad, you could encircle the Red Army at the Finnish front.
I am currently having such a playthrough with Baltics still intact. Basically attacked Poland ASAP and then went to war with USSR in late 37, which.. I guess wasn't exactly optimal weather wise but so far its going good.
I had a game where I played Poland and while I didn't do it during the Winter War, I did pin something like 60-70 divisions in that region. It was an encirclement that killed some 800K troops iirc. Took a screencap to show to my friends haha.
2:00 This version of Operation Barbarossa is exactly what Hitler and his generals expected to happen. They wanted to take Moscow before winter started. They failed, of course, which led to years of slogging through the snow and subsequent failed summer offensives. Even if it was not perfect as expected (it was unreasonable they would have capitulated that fast regardless), it's much more in line with their own expectations of actual success. Can you imagine the actual scars on the American psyche if we had really fought a land war in Maine? Discounting that this is cheating, but Pearl Harbor did so much damage to the US psychologically that being invaded on our mainland would probably make reactionaries go insane.
I don't think it would be psychologically damaging ad it would be infuriating. You'd see recruitment rates soar and everyone contributing to the war way more. As for the German thing... yeah, lend lease and the winter buying Russia some time ruined their plans.
People fail to understand that if this were to be the scenario, the Allie’s would also develop their tech faster through reverse engineering and study.
Mongolia and Tannu Tuva survive more often than not, because they'd only switch to the Axis if they actually participated in the fight.
