I could be wrong, but I think the piece in Shawshank Redemption is from the Marriage of Figaro. It doesn't change the fact, as you said, that this is heartbreakingly beautiful music.

This is absolutely beautiful. In the concert, Ms Harnisch sang the Mozart aria "Betracht dies Herz und frage mich" prior to the Laudate, which is equally sublime. For some reason I magically find myself cutting onions every time I listen to these performances. I can't imagine what it would've been like to have been at that concert - a lifetime memory, that's for sure.
