    Return of the Living Dead terrified me as a kid because there was no winning against it. I actually love its concept that zombies were coherent and suffering in a way that compelled them to kill for brains.
    I can't help but wonder, will we ever see this idea taken further?

    • @trebot9292266
      @trebot9292266 5 років тому +30

      I doubt we'll see it taken further in anything big budget. They got close in some of those Teen style movies though. Warm bodies, as bad a movie as it was, used the idea of the zombies having intelligence and a goal/reason for eating brains.
      I feel as though we really do need a new movie with zombies like this that takes it further. Instead of the zombies becoming more human like they always seem to become more Monstrous.
      Imagine how much better TWD would have been had the zombies been capable of mimicking or just capable speech. the room for the idea that there still is awareness in a zombie but inability or no desire to not eat people, while feeling everything from gunshots to their own flesh rotting away. Almost every "big scene" in the show gets 100x creepier.
      There are some rather boring tv shows that use the idea, but they never take it in the right direction and always end up too teen drama.
      sorry long post.

      @Soloman Grundy I mean there’s connective tissue, obviously, else it’d just fall all to pieces the second it came out of the ground, so maybe that’s how it’s moving? Like how necromorphs from dead space use essentially useless flesh like organs and such to add on more musculature, maybe the trioxen mutated the connective tissue into something like a living creature all on its own, able to move the whole thing like a line of ants moving in unison with each other to take down an obstacle.

      I think the Trixie-infected zombies can spot non-zombies from the smell of their brains.
      This is just from memory... but around the final scene in the movie - while Tina has locked herself in the attic above the mortician’s room, I’m pretty sure Freddy says something about being able to smell her brains as he’s trying to get her to let him in the room.

I imagine when they eventually remake this movie (you know it's coming they've been remaking everything from the 80's/90s/early 2000's) that CG will be inevitably used because it seems they've grown too dependent on it and no longer use practical effects.

Trioxin zombies are largely indestructible, yes, but they can be disabled with a kind of taser weapon and 'incapacitated' for an amount of time (it's how the army clears up the outbreak at the end of the 2nd and 3rd movies), so they seem to be weak to electrical disruption/stunning.

      Another thing is that these zombies feel pain, allowing you to hurt them. It needs to be incredibly brutal (like powerful acid directly in the face and eyes), but it can send them reeling, thrashing around in pain.
      All that aside, I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at. How does their speed, durability and intelligence negate the fact there is no place safe and they are always there?

      Just having it fall on you isn't enough, this is due to it being diluted in the clouds, that's why for example the nukes would 100% work as any moisture would be evaporated past the point of rain being possible.

    Great video! One of my favorites in my Zombie Library! It does have comedy bits but it always still seemed more serious to me. Enjoyed it AND this video!

    This film made me and my brothers laugh till we cried. We always laughed at things that weren't exactly meant to be funny

      @@etangbose4755 I wasn't saying the movie itsself isn't meant to be funny, just that we had a unique sense of humor and would laugh at moments no one else would
