- The highly-anticipated “Downton Abbey” movie, based on the Emmy-winning hit series about the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants, is being called “delightful fun.” The film is set in 1927, and centers around the family and staff preparing for a royal visit from the King and Queen of England. Oscar-nominated actress Elizabeth McGovern appears in the film as Cora Crawley, an American heiress who married the Earl of Grantham, Robert Crawley. McGovern joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss the film.

Elizabeth McGovern was the first love of my life.. the first time I saw her I was 14... on that time, as a kid, I was thinking "this is the most beautiful woman I've seen in my live"... now I am 47... and I can still can say.. she is the most beautiful woman on the world..
Watching this interview Fall 2020. Elizabeth is still spot on with how crazy life is.

Downton is great, but it has always owed far too much to the masterpiece “Upstairs Downstairs”, a much deeper and richer production. “Downton” has great characters, but the scenes never play out. They are hyper-edited and it mutes the dramatic potential. Elizabeth is a
lovely woman, but even “Downton” does not stretch her enough. She is so likable, all the same.
Yes, the 1970s original is the masterpiece. I was not keen on the reboot.
I actually like the fact that the so called "dramatic" scenes weren't played out in full. There are some scenes I'm sure people can put together in there own mind. I personally didn't need to see them.

her accent is just SO WEIRD! lol -- it's all over the map, sounds British in some parts, Southern in others, I swear she has a "valley girl" inflection on some words, just very off-putting :( I came here after watching the Law & Order SVU episode "Harm" where Elizabeth McGovern guest-starred, and her character's accent there too was so inconsistant I thought it was maybe a flaw in the show, but now I see her real speaking voice here in this interview, and it's wildly unpredictable in real life too *lol

She was born in Chicago and raised in LA. She's lived in England since the early 90s.
She got some Hillary Clinton in her accent. Which is normal, given they are both native Chicagoans.
Cora crawley is my least favorite character in the series.
