I would never want to be in the photos that my friends would take when we were traveling or doing something fun because I really hated how I looked in pictures. After viewing a ton of your videos, I actually find it fun now to be in the photos and also to take cute photos of my friends. Thank you so much, David for helping me to find confidence. I appreciate what you are doing.

I genuinely respect how willing you are to contradict the behavior we find so natural. For instance, being so quick to perceive that we lack beauty. I particularly enjoyed the bit in which you compared drawing to photographs and addressed the line between blaming our characteristics or attributing it to our skills and reflect on how to develop them. These are phenomenal.

this is realest advice i've ever heard about becoming a better photographer/model. I love the approach of loving yourself and actually treating this as an art and taking time to practice to become better not just hating yourself because you don't look like an insta baddie the first time.

I was told often when I was younger I was not photogenic. So I always felt small in my body. Until I took a drawing class in college. Did draping, still life, live models and...self portraits. I remember one day my professor walking around and around and finally after several rounds stopped, let out this loud frustrated sigh behind me and snatched the charcoal out of my hand and started drawing over what I did, saying very very pointedly. "You are good artist. Draw bigger. You can draw bigger and use darker lines. SECOND!! YOU HAVE A BEAUTIFUL NECK, ITS LONG AND GORGEOUS. YOUR JAW IS STRONG AND LOVELY TOO. DRAW. IT. DRAW IT. I DIDNT GIVE YOU A FUN HOUSE MIRROR." and then slammed down the bit of charcoal that he demolished and stalked off. I wish I still had that portrait, but it was lost during a move. But man. That one moment having an art professional tell me that my features were lovely and beautiful and strong. Opened up a door in my self confidence and love that I never knew was there.

This is very motivational to get those of us who don't believe we are photogenic to experiment more with angles and lighting. So, I consider myself attractive, have always been since I was a child BUT even as a child, I never felt I photographed well. At least the photos never looked like what I saw in the mirror. In fact, a colleague once said he did not recognize me because I looked so much better in person. Hmmm....So while I do believe that some people are born with facial angles and structures that lend themselves to the 2D camera perspective and never take a bad photo - others like me seem to distort the lens LOL and rarely take a good one. BUT I will definitely try to work harder at taking the best photos of myself so thanks for this video and lots of your other videos. Teaching me a lot and giving me a whole different perspective.

we once worked with a fairly well-known photographer in our country who normally works with professional photomodels, newspapers, companies, etc. He told us something straight: when he picks a girl for a commission and she comes to the studio without makeup, there was often a situation where he thought ''shes so ugly'' [yes, he shouldn't, but well...luckily he was just thinking]. But when the make-up artist painted the girl and she stood in front of the camera, boom boom two, three poses and the photos are ready, marvel, delight! Just the ability to properly position the body, awareness of your body, you don't have to be extremely beautiful to look beautiful in photos.

The amount of self confidence could affect how you see yourself is true tho. I used to be very confident with my look. I feel pretty (not pretty like goddess but I acknowledge myself to have a decent good look) almost all the time. I realized it was bc I look at the mirror a lot (I used to live in a small dorm where I only have one table to study, eat and do everything and I placed the mirror right in the middle of it), it somehow tricked me to look at myself every day and it build on my confidence.
But later on I moved away, I dated someone who's not very appreciative and told me I got uglier when I gained some weight which really crushed me. I stopped looking at mirrors and I hate it when people wanted to take my photos. So advice : you don't need others approval to be the best of yourselves. You know you better. Putting this ability on someone else's hand could be so heartbreaking when they chose to not be nice.
Years later here I am trying to rebuild that self confidence I had. The process is slow but I'm working my best to love myself and know myself better. I still feel bad sometimes, but hopefully I won't be anymore in the future.

brilliant video! It's rlly well explained and I love the metaphor but I have a guestion. What about when our pics look better then we do in reality? so that when we meet ppl in real life they get dissapointed cuz we don't look the same as in the pics? I always feel bad like i am lying or that person is lying to me in a way.(you know the "catfishing" photo trend)
so I am always hesitating when taking or posting pictures. Any opinion on that?

I agree whole hearted that everyone can learn to look and feel beautiful but the term "photogenic" traditionally describes someone who naturally appears appealing in photographs without making an effort. If you actively work to be photogenic, it contradicts the essence of being naturally so. It's akin to claiming to be "natural" at something, which implies proficiency without exertion.

All this just makes me sad again and again. The truth is if you were born with an ugly face, the only thing left for you is not to burden other people with seeing it.
"You just don't have skills" - naive copium. Yes, it works in many cases, cases of beautiful people like you or many others. But let's be realistic - you can't make an ugly person look different, no matter how skilled you are.
Of course, I realize that this video was made only to promote the course, but...
