So the part where the locomotive stopped a few times is called a switch back. It makes it easier to ascend/descend a lot of elevation in not a lot of space. There used to be a trestle loop that took care of that elevation change, and you can see it in the video. It caught fire over a decade ago and the state wouldn’t allow them to fix it.
This is great information. Thank you so much for sharing that. I think a lot of people were confused on the train so maybe they should’ve said something. Maybe they like to leave everybody in suspense.? But I do appreciate that information. I told my wife and she feels better about going on her next trip. @@JoyCool1 No problem. And fun fact about Tuolumne, She is the oldest known Heisler type geared steam locomotive currently in operation. And even then, she's only used on an irregular basis. You got really lucky getting her to pull your train. I've gone up there for years and she's never been on the head end of my trains.
