I've been using the 2290 plug-in for a couple years now but I was murky on understanding what the different buttons did in relation to each other with the modulation. This tutorial really cleared some things up for me and now I'm excited to get brave and move away from the presets more.
Great demo. The ability to trem/pan the dry is intriguing, and the stereo image obtained by panning both the dry and the wet maybe unique. Still, I think adding a second tap via a firmware update would be a good move from TC and would add a lot to this delay (that's what I'd want to see before purchasing). Since Boss put the 'tap equivalent of 2-4 (depending on how you reckon it) SDE-3000s into their new pedals, it would be nice to see TC expand (not just recreate) the functionality of the original slightly.
Great work and sound. Thanks for the video and the inspiration. Greetings Pavel CZ. PS one effect from TC (another one) will arrive on Monday.
Fantastic demo. Best I’ve seen.. keep it up!
Thanks for doing this. Explains how it all works better than the manual. I was able to set up some Edge delays pretty easily out of the box that sound great but the panning stuff I had yet to get a handle on so this was a nice shortcut for understanding that side of things.
Phenomenal pedal....TC Electronics has done it again ! Thanks for the demo Bill !
Nice bit of kit. Well explained scratch of the surface! Lots to try when I can afford one!
I love watching you dial in your delay settings ❤
great review, man !!! thenk you very much!!
You totally had me with that fantastic panning with so much flexibility and ease of use! I’ve been trying to use the recent boss digital dual delay and it’s not nearly as simple to configure.
Just ordered with your affiliate link! ✌️😌🎸
This is the only pedal on the market that provides this level of modulation and panning of the dry and delay signal. ..just like my original rack unit. .....great job TC
Just got the pedal. Thank you for a thought-provoking demonstration on some of its capabilities. Job well done!
Congrats!!
I have owned two rack 2290’s this pedal is fantastic, sound very close for me!! I wait the new stock.
Pedale stupefacente! 🙌👏
Would love to see a video of this pedal focused entirely on the 'reverse' feature; length of reverse, as well as expression pedal(wet and dry effects). Thanks for consideration!
Wow this is well overdue, I always wanted the rack and very nearly bought one but didn’t in the end as I had the Eventide H3500. Even though I have too many fx this is really desirable!!!
Another great demo and I think I'm getting GAS, pretty hard not to. I could get lost in this pedal for days. Love your work.
What’s the b foot switch for? Are there two delay engines? Thanks for the video!
This is interesting. Aesthetically, it reminds me of the beloved TC Nova Delay - so i almost see it as an upgrade on that. It was sad when that unit became discontinued.
Aesthetically, it's super reminiscent of the 2290. I want it just for that!
The screen seems way more powerful than on my Poly Effets Beebo ! Those 7 segment displays are dope !
I'm not familiar with the original 2290 unit, beyond how it sounded with players of the time and how that type of delay is incorporated into later delay pedals. That said, this seems like a cool reissue. Off the bat, I like the waveforms and the function to pan the dry signal. My overall impression is that this pedal is all about dynamics and modulated movement. Plus, as an 80s kid, I like the push button controls. Retro now! Great demo, Bill. Perfect for your Frippertronics arrangements too.
I know the OG 2290 is legend but it's gonna be hard for any delay pedal to beat the Boss DM-101 this year. Great run through.
That, and the RE-202 and SDE-3000. Boss is killing it lately!
For sure, except I was puzzled at why the DM-101 is just 1.2 seconds of delay.
Exactly - the RE-202, the SDE-3000 and DM-101 all seem to tap out in the 1-2 second range vs. the 10 second of the 2290. Let me know if I have that wrong.
The DM-101 is analog, having 1.2 seconds is itself a technical achievement. Most analog delays have only half that and the original DM-2 had only 300ms.
can you make a comparison between the TC Electronic 2290P and the Boss SDE-3000D ?
EDIT: SOLVED: I put the shortcut to the app in the Windows Startup Group and I'm using a Tripp Lite ACTIVE usb2 extension cable. So far so good... just got my 2290P today.... no luck getting it to connect to the Windows 2290P app. The hardware shows up fine in Device Manager. I've reinstalled the app, rebooted twice (windows and the 2290P), tried different usb cables... no dice.... thoughts?
Do you have the manual to this? Word has it not even TC has one, to really dive in and experience what it’s capable of.
Hello.
Personally, I feel that the programming of patches is becoming a far bigger part of music than actually playing music. My early days of wanting a large collection of pedals quickly changed to O/D-chorus-delay as my live performances increased. My live days ended with using one patch on a Korg AX1500g in individual mode. Anticipating that the Korg might not last much longer, I’ve prepared a Sonicake Twiggy-volume pedal-Mooer Ocean Machine set up with the Mooer using just one patch that I quickly change using the top row of knobs.
Do you think that too much time is needed with machines like this one before playing is possible?
Good point. I have a similar conundrum between pedals that have very limited features but sound great versus ones that can potentially do a lot more but require a lot of learning and dialling in. I think the what we're looking for is inspiration, but too often these multitude of options saps exactly that.
Can the delay time be set to bpm?
Hello sir I would like to request you to try a MARSHAL VIBRATREM VT1 Stereo pedal its inexpensive and does the ambient mellow music real good, I haven't seen a ambient guitar review of tremolo a lot and MARSHAL VT1 is most underrated pedal and there isn't a review online that does justice to it you kind of music will fall right into place with that pedal hope you ll find something interesting.
Stupendo
I don't care on how it sounds. It got leds, I want one 😂
Nice one, bit of a soundscaper myself on synth though own a guitar as well.
Haha same here which is why I got all their plug-in controller things including this delay mostly because the LEDs look so cool!
Sounds like my behringer delay pedal.
Fascinating.
And, being a keyboard player, i'll just leave it at that.
I kind of can’t believe they just now put this thing into pedal form. Lol. Sounds good though!
Have a hard time thinking this would be better to have than a Boss DM-101 or a Boss RE-202 or a Boss DD-200 which is actually less money than this and does more. The DD-500 eats this thing for breakfast and still has room for seconds. I admit this thing is a monster sounding delay, and I wouldn't say no to a TC 2290. What this has that nobody else has is the interface of a legendary piece of rack gear, that fits on your pedalboard. If you love that, then this is the one for you. What I would actually grab this for is as a delay to go with my synths, and possibly even wire this to my audio interface to let me use it with my DAW as a send effect.
I disagree here. I much prefer this to the DD500. I could only get some stereo spread out of that thing by applying the wave pedal for some panning and it didn’t sound that great. The 2290 sounds great in stereo out of the box. I actually prefer the DD20 modulate to the 500 for modulated digital delay. I have had an RE202 as well but it also lacks stereo spread. Much prefer the Volante with its panning heads. Neither of these though cover the same ground as the TC2290.
73k thumbs up? What is my UA-cam doing?
Keeping the panning modulation on all the time distracts from the other modulation features, IMHO
I hate to admit it however I am so old school (and old) that you lost me at “patch.” 😎
For the price, yes.. BUT the Boss SDE3000 has this beat in terms of quality and capability
I'm almost certain Allan would have 4 of these things plugged into each other.
I suspect you are right! :-)
@@chordsoforion maybe 8?
Way too expensive, i'll stick with the older pedals i already have
The pan is too much , makes me sea sick
You can turn it off! :-)
Way to complicated and expensive. An easy2use pedal like a Boss delay is more preferable to n the stage.
More TC Electronics junk.
