    Your take on games being a product before it’s art is spot on dude. I honestly hate that conversation but I do align with your take

    It seems like Frostpunk 2, per your review, kept the story and setting everyone liked, while doing away with the moral dilemmas of an autocrat that made the gameplay so beloved. This is the reverse of TLOU 2, which improved on the gameplay of the original in every sense, while the story went in a new direction that many people really didn't like.

    • @GutsTheBeast
      @GutsTheBeast 2 місяці тому +2

      TLOU2's hand to hand combat was the only thing that was actually good addition.
      The level-design, gunshooting, etc... were far weaker than the first game.
      I'm saying this as someone who played TLOU1 multiple times and platinummed the game while only played through the second twice before getting bored of it.

      @@GutsTheBeast couldn’t disagree more. Part 2 had bigger, more detailed maps and set-pieces, improved AI and enemy reactivity, better stealth mechanics, objectively better movement and firearm handling, more weapons, two very different characters to play as, and fun, varied boss fights.
      If you replayed TLOU remastered, you also enjoyed many of these improvements. The original is a masterpiece, but in my opinion the sequel stands head and shoulders above in terms of moment to moment gameplay.

      First off, well done sum up of the video.
      For what it is worth:
      I played FP1 maybe...20-50 hours ish. I enjoyed it but got bored real quick. I feel like a lot of the reviews that talk about how the game lost a lot with the micro parts, I feel the opposite. These changes seem to be more like Sid Myers Civilization games. I find this more appealing and I think I came play this more than the first now.
      Now that said. The game should run smooth and have a good QoL

      I personally think they kept the moral dillemas, just held them in a new light. Rather than being an autocrat that is able to make laws on their own (for better or very much worse), your now as the steward required to take in input from differring factions who have a very different idea of how the city needs to be run.

    • @big_tasty1
      @big_tasty1 2 місяці тому

      @@jonahulichny9874 my original comment was written moreso to defend one of my favorite games, and I had not played FP2 at that time. Since then I've played up to chapter 4, and I completely agree with you. I love the direction the game has taken. I especially love that you can, in a way, let the city run itself by strategically using favors and endorsing factions to keep them appeased while boosting your favorite.
      I also very much disagree with the minmaxing argument made in the video, while not as straightforward as the original, the stockpile system is very deep (that research tree though!!) and is sure to be essential to master on the harder difficulties.

    I agree with everything other than being any intentional malice behind some of their decisions. I think they just misjudged what people rly liked about the first game, in an attempt to make it grander, they lost a ton of the immerssiveness that made the 1st one special.

    I love Frostpunk 1. Ive only played the story scenarios. Never once opened the endless mode lol.
    Currently playing Frostpunk 2... i dont feel like ive designed my city at all. Just clicked a few buttons and flipped a few switches. The focus is def on relationships and politics.
    I do agree 11 bit may have to learn that its okay to make a sequel with slight updates. Be like Microsoft with Age of Empires/Nintendo with Mario rather than Sega with Sonic.

    It's kinda the same in FP1. If your city is bad, and things start to go bad, it's usually too late, and you have to start from the beginning, or load back a lot into the past.

    I appreciate what they did with this game. It's (by purpose or accident) makes you feel like you are on the brink alot of the time. It shines it's best on the first playthrough like the original frostpunk where you genuinly don't know what gonna happen or what the consequences of your actions will be. I am very pleased they didn't just make a frostpunk plus type game. If they wanted more frostpunk they should just update frostpunk. The original game is still there. Now it would be nice if it had mod support like this game does but it did have it's moments that forced my hand to take actions that I felt did the least harm. I had regrets and golden ages and I wouldn't have it any other way

    First time seeing one of your reviews. I don’t even know if I agree yet, as I haven’t played. But love the viewpoint you bring. Easy sub from
    Me. So after playing both, if you could only choose between 1 and the sequel, would you go back to first one?

    Haha. So I loved the first one played through it 3 times and like one and half of the DLC. Never did survival mode. And, as someone who owns democracy 3 even though it has a hyper liberal bias, a political simulator sounds really cool. Unfortunately, I can't tell if it would tick me off or be really enjoyable from your review.
    Appreciate your thoughts. 🙂

    Great review, my only quibble is that (at least in my opinion) I think they actually did a pretty good job making it clear that they were diverging dramatically from the formula of the first game.
    Everything you're saying about it sounds like what I expected after seeing early previews and it's why I had pretty well decided I wouldn't be playing it.

    I've wanted to love this game so so much. But even going in expecting the larger scale and districts building and political juggling, I don't know if I want to play this if I don't feel personally invested in the city's survival.

    Many issues are preventing the game from being playable for me. The top issue is the resolution adjustment that is locked in Window mode! I have an Ultra Wide Monitor and play many games that require onscreen navigation and selection in a Windowed 2560x1440 mode, and that option is not there! So now my only option is to play in 5120x1440, which is beyond tedious. I played FP1 with no problem in 2560x1440. Right now, the game is not playable for me, and there are other bugs. I should have waited and once again kicking myself for getting a game when it releases.
