I absolutely enjoyed this documentary and watched it twice so far, it deepened my knowledge and interest in the Romanovs and the great empire the family built. can you do a documentary on the fall of the Soviet Union I would love to see a documentary narrated, animated and dramatized in this way
Given that this series was made in Russia, I'm surprised (but glad) that not all of Nicholas II's policies were seen as misguided; just the opposite. He was a decent man who loved his country and did his best. Nicholas had to rely on his advisors as much as any ruler or president.
This was, as I guessed when I started watching this beautifully produced and acted documentary, the weakest part of the series and documentary. As Putin the new Russian leader has now abandoned his communist past (and democracy) and become, in his own eyes the new Tsar, with the revival of orthodoxy and a repudiation of the Communist revolution, it is no surprise that the critical part of the Bolshevik revolution was suddenly completely absent. The irony for me is that I have been accused of being a 'Putin bot' many times by media brain washed anti Russian bigots in the Western media because, knowing what I know about our anti democratic Western coup in the Ukraine (see also Egypt, Honduras, Venezuela, etc) ,I, like even Putin's political opponent Gorbachov, know that the mess in the Ukraine and the EU is part of the US and their NATO allies stupid plot to restart the Cold war, as the 'West' try to prevent Russia from getting back on it's feet and to foment troubles needed to increase arms sales and 'Western' global hegemony. I am only interested in the truth. Putin has been a necessary 'evil' for Russia to rebuild it's strength but I do worry about his neo 'Tsarism' and neo orthodoxy which are contrary to the 'enlightenment' of Peter the Great. *What was missing in this story is why did the first socialist February revolution fail? It is simple. The stupid democratic socialists took a lot of money from their stupid allies (Britain, France and the US) to continue the same lost war that led to the first revolution. The money mean't nothing to an army already defeated and falling apart. Continuing the lost war just convinced the masses that only the radicals who promised to stop the slaughter could save them. And this gave Lenin and the Bolshviks the chance they would never have had to take over the revolution and make it a non democratic Communist regime!* This is the truth that this documentary could not admit too, despite this being well known to those who know even a little history. So while this is the most beautiful and informative documentary on Russia yet, it in the end is fatally flawed by it's need to avoid the truth and give us an emotional rather than an a historical ending to the Romanov dynasty. The killing of the Romanov's in 1918 by the Communists was done for the same reason as shown in earlier parts of this documentary when Tsar's killed members of their own family or false Tsars to prevent more civil war, just as the Byzantine's, the Tsar's role models, had done. It was nothing new, as tragic as it was for the families and individuals involved

This, as well as soviet storm, was beautifully written, told, and animated, as well as acted.
