- The year 2021 is closing on an interesting note, railfan wise with the CN! A rare C40-8 escaped the Iron Range, and has made its way to the Twin Cities a number of times. To top this off, even a GTW SD40-2 made a run across the Minneapolis Sub.
Starting off we'll see BNSF 292 leading CN 2010 at Cardigan Jct, in Shoreview, MN. After meeting CP HH16, running with its leader long hood forward, the CN takes off towards New Brighton. Later the same day, an extra L517, X517, ran with an SD40-2 leading. To top it off, it was a Grand Trunk Western 40, GTW 5931! This was caught in New Richmond as it it lead a solid train of autoracks bound for New Richmond. After this, the following clips highlight CN 2010 leading, and working in the Twin Cities. It is seen departing Northtown Yard, working New Brighton, and heading back east towards Wisconsin. It has been years since a C40=8 has worked this job; they tend to stick on the Iron Range. With CN retiring, and sidelining most of their dash 8s, this was a very welcomed sight!

Awesome video as always
Great video and catches! Always love the look of the standard-cab Dash-8s, especially the C40-8s. Shame CN is starting to retire them.
I love your shots from the little parking lot on the west side of the tracks by University. The speed with which you get to Shoreham Hill from there while the train is snaking through the container yard is worthy of an F-1 series driver. The horn on the Dash-8 sounds beautiful and it’s great to see CN bucking the funeral train trend filled with them. What a far cry the Dash-8’s were from the late U-boats. It’s like GE finally realized if they fixed the bugaboos they’d have a solid product which is what customers got. 40 years on and this GE is still racking up the miles.
Bro almost fell out of my seat when I seen that GTW sd40-2 hustling Auto wrecks like a boss, just like when I was a kid!!!!
You sure know how to brighten up people's Mondays!
Finally a video with some horn blowing. I am amazed at the amount of the "quiet zones" where you record. Those Dash 8 horns sounds familiar since NS use to use them some of the locals around where i live in North Carolina several years ago. Most of the local service is done by Watco companies now aka BLU is the marking for the RR.
Awesome video! Lots of snow on the ground there =- ) That CN C40-8 looks amazing, you got tons of great angles!!
I’d better catch these Dash 8s while I can. These engines were my childhood.
You Got Great Video I Love Them Fantastic
What an interesting pair the standard cab Dash 8 and the SD75I make. Also nice catch on semi truck jumping the crossing @4:00. 😑
That old WC sign is pretty cool!
I feel bad for the crew on HH16 though!
Awesome Video!
Very nice video!
Great video! I liked the variety of powers you caught! ;)
🤙
Cool video, well done💪🤙🤙
Awesome
Great video! What in the world is HH16? Seems like another transfer lol
Thank you for the kind comments, and words! HH16 is a transfer that is usually symbolled as H16, and runs from Saint Paul Yard to Valley Park and back. However, in this video, it was routed from UP's Valley Park Yard to CP's Humboldt Yard for some reason.
Awesome! I didn’t know CN was starting to retire it’s ex-UP dash 8s, I remember they were brought on to replace the old EMDs on the Iron Range. Are the old DMIR tunnel motors still going to outlast these engines?
The Dash 8s in recent years have been suffering reliability issues so it’s more than likely.
Typical GE of that time lol.
If CN still had those SD40s which hunter Harrison retired, they’ll outlive the dash-8s
I like trains
good vid... but @ 00:30 what a mainline NO-NO running those widecabs LHF... we did that a few times till one of our oldhead condrs who was very respected by the trainmaster put in a VERY effective plug to stop doing it...for the railfans it looks pretty cool but very uncomfortable if not dangerous for the crew and the public
👍👍
