I've listened to Sarah Vaughan, Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday for years; the only other female vocalist I'd put in the same category as these three is k.d. Lang, incredible voice and crosses all genres, no box for this lady, Canada's icon
I hear they acknowledge and support her career there, in Canada. I believe I heard, at the time Absolute Torch and Twang came out that they had a billboard up of her, celebrating her and her success.
k d lang is the last person in the world that anyone should find affected. Her performance emotion and her devotion to her art are 100% genuine. Plus, she was singing at twenty-five the way other vocalists had to make fifty to manage.
And kd is the best thing ever through this Coronavirus. She calms me driving in my car and soothes me at night (to go to sleep by.) Her crooning is the best. Not another soul like kd and her voice.
Thank-you UA-cam! I remember KD in her early days, and how she faded out of the limelight when she opened up abut her sexuality. Thank goodness - so much of the world has now matured and recognises that her personal preferences really don't matter - she is pure voice & talent. Absolute joy to watch & 'thrills up & down the spine' to listen to.
words cannot describe the feeling....She is mesmerizing not just with her voice, but the entire performance. Movements, gestures and looks so sensual it has to appeal just as much to men as to women, gay, straight or Martian..whatever. She takes your breath away...
Beautifully said- I agree 100%! She’s almost otherworldly she’s so electrifying. I’ll never forget the first time I saw her perform live.. I knew it was greatness i was witnessing- and hearing.
I've had this song in of one my piano music books,. a book for female "belters"..and it has been difficult to find anyone who has actually sung it. There is a country song also called "Black Coffee" but not THIS song! If ANYONE could do this song justice, it is the one and only K D Lang! I'm trying to find her GORGEOUS rendition of The Hollie's "The Air That I Breathe" but a video, not a slide show. The arrangement is so very haunting! Thanks for posting this jazz/blues tune of Black Coffee!
Two songs from K.D. Lang in this musical Christmas card - from Radio Winchcombe 107.1 FM and online. It's a local radio station, and I was a cartoonist before working as a radio DJ. I'm from Montreal - so there's a lot of Canadian talent featured in my shows ... this one even features a piano lesson from Oscar Peterson! Night Train with Martha Richler (aka Marf) - 17 December 2020 - A Musical Christmas Card by Radio Winchcombe | Mixcloud
@@EchosLens Yes, and his little sister is named Minga, and his girl friend (or his friend who is a girl) is named Goo. Minga is featured on my UA-cam channel banner.
@Celestian 1111, you said, "I just figured it out: KD Lang is her own genre." Bravo; awesome comment!! I was wondering exactly how to classify KD Lang's unique talent, and you just answered the question for me!!
k.d., girl, where are you? I miss you. You know, I wanted you early in your career to cover everything by Frances Faye. Both of you rock. Where are you? Stop this disappearing act, k.d.! This fan misses you.
Ohhh, I see dear heckel has obviously never seen, much less, heard, a woman near orgasm, because if he (or she) would surely know the difference! k.d. does a fabulous job of this song, as she does so many, many others. The line between pleasure and pain is a very, VERY fine one. This is pleasure, personified, to my ears.
in case you are wondering still, peggy lee did this song too. i know there have been others but after kd no one else matters...i believe this tune is considered a jazz standard
yes i did know that Ava. and you are right on to say it is a jazz standard...countless others have interpreted this tune...being who i am i am partial to kd...
Many performers need telling that it's not a case of 'the more out of time I sing, the better my performance.' There's an art to it. It just comes across as arbitrary here.
Her voice oozes sensuality - like a relaxing spa massage for your ears!
Love your description. That is why I feel so peaceful after listening to her. Big hugs to K Dawn Lang. ❤

Saw her live at the Kimmel Center in Philly. It was literally a religious experience.
I hear they acknowledge and support her career there, in Canada. I believe I heard, at the time Absolute Torch and Twang came out that they had a billboard up of her, celebrating her and her success.
She could sing the phone book and it would be amazing. Saw her live recently and she was just fantastic!
me too saw kd live in July 2019 absolutely second to none
No one can compare to KD Lang best female singer of all time.! Love you KD Lang much respect!
totally agree with you I'm a straight female but wow l adore kd
Very good voice. Anne Murray is still the BEST in my book.
k d lang is the last person in the world that anyone should find affected. Her performance emotion and her devotion to her art are 100% genuine. Plus, she was singing at twenty-five the way other vocalists had to make fifty to manage.
She NEVER "faded out!"
And kd is the best thing ever through this Coronavirus. She calms me driving in my car and soothes me at night (to go to sleep by.) Her crooning is the best. Not another soul like kd and her voice.
Oh my word!!! Be still my racing heart!!

Country music lost a real gem, this lady can sing anything

everytime i listen, i'm in love
words cannot describe the feeling....She is mesmerizing not just with her voice, but the entire performance. Movements, gestures and looks so sensual it has to appeal just as much to men as to women, gay, straight or Martian..whatever. She takes your breath away...
@Elena...She's a female Chet Baker? Both smooth as silk.
Agreed. I think I'm in love!
Beautifully said- I agree 100%! She’s almost otherworldly she’s so electrifying. I’ll never forget the first time I saw her perform live.. I knew it was greatness i was witnessing- and hearing.
She oozes charisma.
KD could sing any song...love love her voice.
Man oh man can she bend those notes

Cheekbones to die for.
She is very beautiful at this time.
Is the name of Gumby's horse and sidekick "Pokey"? I'm trying to remember and thought you might know.
@@EchosLens Yes, and his little sister is named Minga, and his girl friend (or his friend who is a girl) is named Goo. Minga is featured on my UA-cam channel banner.

Brandford on sax..........................wow
OMG what a great cover. But she can sing a phonebook and make it sound outstanding.
in case you are wondering still, peggy lee did this song too. i know there have been others but after kd no one else matters...i believe this tune is considered a jazz standard
yes i did know that Ava. and you are right on to say it is a jazz standard...countless others have interpreted this tune...being who i am i am partial to kd...
Ella Fitzgerald did even before Peggy.
Julie London covered it, too. Probably others less well-known.
Oh Pauline, Ella and Sarah own this song. A modern day lesbian is only faking the words.
The Pointer Sisters also covered it.
I love her voice herself ,) she desapear or wath, gonna find...!
I face the consequences of falling.............WOW
au secours !
Maravilhosa❤❤❤

Hey...isn't that a marsalis playing on sax? Nice...made me smile and groove like a loser! :)

I'm in total agreement - nice comment Rachel !
Black coffee. Mmm... Was she able to get some after the show?
Many performers need telling that it's not a case of 'the more out of time I sing, the better my performance.' There's an art to it. It just comes across as arbitrary here.
Does anyone know who played the pedal steel in this performance
ooooogeezus...that voice! mmmmmm whose song is that Ellas? no Billie
She's so hot omg
nah...sexuality is better as far as hottest...sweetist....etc etc etc!
Sarah Voughan version is the best forbme
What's this guy ?
if you have nothing good to say about this - keep your stupid mouth shut
She looks like Patricia Kaas...
Now that you mention it .... But the vibe is totally different.
