I love that Martin ended by playing his steel drum. Prove as if it were needed of the difference between the greedy folk with the claim and the man with the passion for the music.
It may be a good business decision to just pay them to go away, but if you want to support local artists you need to stand up to this sort of thing. Paying them will just encourage them to do the same to other people.
If they haven't already done this to many other artists. I'm no musician but I wonder if the Musicians Union in the UK could be used to keep track of such appalling mistreatment of artists. If a venue does this time and time again but each artist writes and honest review of the experience then arguably patterns of mistreatment might emerge. I can imagine some might fear getting a bad name if they keep leaving poor reviews of venues, but I think you need to stand together.
Make sure to screenshot that social media post saying how great everyone thought the night went (and get an independent 3rd party to do so too) before the post mysteriously vanishes...
Did they object to you playing Reggae too? Perhaps that wasn't Carribean enough. That's the kind of client you could do without. The judge won't be at all pleased.

What a lovely guy. Straight to the point with a clear concise problem that needs solving
This venue deserves to be named and shamed.
Actually. I'd like to hear Moonlight Sonata scored for a Steel Band.
Could be quite interesting!

I don't know a lot about steel drums, but I'd like Martin to teach me.
Sounds like a Steel Band to me. Good luck to Martin.
The band got critically panned
