  • I know, there are already several copies of this song posted here on UA-cam. But this is one of my favorite songs, so I'm parking my copy on my channel.

Susan's sister-in-law Vicki Peterson had just gone to see the documentary Searching For Sugarman with her husband Jon Cowsill and knew she'd heard this song from the soundtrack before. When it dawned on her that Susan had recorded it almost 40 years before, she took Susan to see the film. That was the first time Susan actually got the story of Sixto Rodriguez. When Rodriguez was scheduled to play at Tipitina's in New Orleans, Susan and her husband went to see him, bringing along a copy of this 45 to see if she might get him to sign it. When they were able to get backstage and she was introduced to him, he said, "Susan Cowsill, wow! I love what you did with my song." She was flabbergasted that he'd even heard it, and even more blown away when he arranged for her and her husband to open for him at the Beacon Theater in New York later that tour. Rodriguez' story is an amazing tale of how great music will find it's audience.

I wish that I could hang out with Susan Cowsill, she seems so beautiful and full of thought. Maybe it's just me tryin to find a kindred spirit, but I really want to know her.

She is the quintessential earth mother who lives everyone. Very kind and has the best stories.

knowing some of the people involved in this wonderful record, I am pretty sure that is Tom Scott on the horn/reed. No voice in the world like Susan...then or now. Great post.

How did she end up doing this song? Did anyone see Searching for Sugarman? It's written by Sixto Rodriguez -the subject of that movie

Wil many thanks for posting this song by Susan Cowsill. This was my (one and only) wife's favorite and I am dedicating this to her as I know she's watching me/us, her family from up above. Sixto Rodriguez has his own version of this too, right Wil. Salamat ulit.
