Ahmad Hosny It’s nothing to do with the wealth, but the arrogance and belief in superiority, a lot from the south try to make it seem like most people from the North are dumb, dim witted, totally clueless in the modern world but that couldn’t be further from the truth. There’s clowns with little self awareness in every region. From celebrities who live in a bubble completely torn from reality, to fools who let themselves become victims of the big corporations looking to condition and take advantage of people for money.
Totally agree with the sentiment of this rant...... except for one thing; don't confuse London with "the South"
I'd bet that much of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, even Hampshire (think Southampton and Portsmouth) have more in common with Boro than Islington.
I don't like the North/South divide cliché. It's London (not even all of London) and the rest.

As a guy from Middlesbrough, I’m proud of Jeff. Stuck up for us. Made some excellent points. However, it is a horrible place to live, would have to agree it’s up there with the worst

Depends where you live mate grangetown is different to yarm lol. I live in ireland now but my dad lives in marske and it's one of the nicest places to live I think so it's all subjective. I'd take a pint down the navy before a game than being any other fan out there.

Rubbish mate you're just buying into stereotypes I'm from Devon nearly far south as south can go and people are friendly as you like down here.
I live in Somerset & have family near Liverpool & I find the people up north 100 times friendlier.... Obviously not an exact rule but it seems to be a trend.. Also to the guy talking about london/Birmingham, that isn't the North that's South east/Midlands... No one thinks London is particularly friendly.

It used to be a horrible place when the Teesside Steelworks was operating at full blast and ICI Billingham was belching out god knows what into the atmosphere - they aren't called The Smoggies for nothing - but these days it is just a slightly run down Northern town with nothing particularly unpleasant to put you off going there.

We have Captain Cook's old house here in Melbourne Australia. It's the sort of place everyone's parents take them to when they are kids. We had a Piscasso too but somebody stole it, they ended up finding it in a locker at the train station.

Middlesbrough isn't the best place to live but my god they have heart. Our team won the carling Cup when Man Utd and Arsenal were in their prime. This little club got to the final of the Europa Cup throwing aside Rome on its way. C'mon Boro!

Yarm is indeed a very fine place. Worked with a lot of Middlesbrough people in the shipyards back in the day. Invariably lovely, warm hearted people, with a great sense of humour.

Lets be honest mate, "roy chubby brown" is the most well known and the best on the list.. you want to read between the lines of the jokes the man is a lot more intelligent than you think and also in today world chubby brown of the 90s when he was at his peak no comedian could touch him and in todays comedy circle he makes every other comedian like ya mcintyres, bishops and whitehalls looking like kids entertainers

His material changed to fit the taboos of the time, constantly pricking (or in Chubby's case, torpedoing) society's sensibilities. It always was and is his mission to be as offensive as possible, no different to recent comedians like Frankie Boyle. As you say, by comparison, most comics are childrens' entertainers.

adrian ip they’re both Scots, there’s a lot of similarities between the way the type of London bubble twats are dismissive of the north of England to the dismissive way they’ll also describe Scots, Scotland itself, our culture and traditions. The north of England has far more in common with Scots than the toffs in the Home Counties who run the media in this country and come out with the kind of guff Jeff was ranting about.
