Best sport in the world. I watched my first AFL game in 2020 and it is unbelievable how great Footy is. It is like the best of every other sport combined, and with a great history too. It's a shame, that it is totally unknown in Europe. Be proud of it. Greetings from Austria

@@alanpolwarth1072 Hard to say. It is a lot about sympathy for the team and their playing style, but it like Carlton, GWS played great in the last years (but no history and fans), and Bulldogs were the first team I liked 3 years ago.
I have to tell you that from my point of view it's not popular in North America either. I sort of stumbled upon this. I don't understand any of this. I am seeing these spectacular moments with no reaction because I don't know why they are spectacular.

...have been watching VFL / AFL starting with the beginning of ESPN in the 70s, when this was one of the only sports to which they had access; one could take the ENTIRE NFL and put them up against ANY AFL team and the AFL would run them into the ground; the best football based game ever.
Loved the sport my entire life and always will, so bring on 2023 up the Power!!!
Great compilation. I watched it all the way through in the vain hope that the Dockers could get one, just one highlight: Tony Modra’s mark of the year. Or Luke McPharlin’s.. Winston Abraham’s goal of the year. Or Hayden Ballantyne’s. Quenton Leach’s kick after the siren. Or Jeff Farmer’s. Or Justin Longmuir’s. Or David Mundy’s. Or Michael Walter’s.
But alas, no.
Sigh.
Felt the exact same, it felt like we were deliberately left out.
Yeah all of our after siren or last minute goals to win, a goal of the year, most dominant preliminary final perfe romance until Melbourne this year and not a single one. The creator of this 👎🏻
100% should of had hill running down the wing and sealing the win against Geelong at gmhba in the semi, that was an unreal win
Or when Mundy kicked a goal after the siren to beat Richmond, did the exact same thing exactly a year later to Richmond again.
I’m a Richmond supporter so it hurts but it was unreal to see him do it twice.
@@dylanryder4427 I was at that second one at the G when they kicked a goal to hit the lead with 23 seconds left then we took it from the middle, he marked and kicked after the siren. Best game to see interstate.

@@doylersafl8728 I am not a ''leaguie'' by any measure. But can watch Union all day long. Having said that also enjoy the gladiatorial nature of League. Just curious why as an elite athlete (which AFL footballers are) you'd chose a sport that doesn't actually pay that well and you never have the chance to represent your country.
@@TheNWaite nrl also does not pay that well, what's your point. And one time ago, something better and more important than playing for your country took place called state of origin, in which all 6 states played each other with the best players from each state. However since the AFL is bigger now, and has at least 2 teams in every mainland state, meaning the ability to play for those 2 teams makes state of origin redundant. As to why I'd choose AFL, I come from Ireland where rugby union is very big so when I saw nrl, it was strikingly similar bar a few miniscule differences. So I saw AFL and how nice the flow of the game was and the high scoring meaning it was nicer to watch than the rugby that I knew already. Also, why not, we have the most supported club in Australia, the Sydney Swans, who boasted over 1.2 million fans last year.
An amazing video, would love to see more Hawthorn videos of Dunstall and Matthews especially him knocking over the goal post that is memorable. I loved the background music and the way the video was laid out, very entertaining and a flashback bringing 30-minute video. Most of the general things we remember from the game we love to watch and play are shown quite well here, hardly anything missed. Good job!
Great job, seen plenty of these "best evers", this one nails it captures all the great stuff I remember since I was a 7yo in 72', plenty of more material that could go in too!

Great video capturing most of the best moments from the last 15/20 years with a few others slapped in. Would love to see one with moments from prior to that. So many 80s and 90s moments missed.

I feel so lucky to have watched Plugger at the SCG so many times as a kid. I was at the game where he kicked his 1300th and I will never forget it.

@@RilesMacca it was. I was sitting in the top seats and was begging my dad to let me go down and run on the field with everyone. He didn't let me but it was still so awesome to be part of it all.

@@diagonals792 We we’re behind the goals at the Randwick end and my son didn’t stop to ask me but just ran on. Good for you I thought. Was also there when Plugger kicked that point to get us into the finals, and when Nick Davis kicked that fantastic goal, and at the MCG when Leo Barry took that amazing mark to ensure the Swans won their first flag in 73 years. What a privilege I reckon. It is the greatest game of all. No question!
I was lucky. There for Plugger's point, Pluggers 1300th with one son on my shoulders, another holding my hand as we walked on to the ground, 2005 Semi v Geelong - probably the best of the lot - 2005 grand final near Leo Barry's mark, 2012 grand final in the clouds, Rohan's goal after the siren v the Bombers, and on the ground for Buddy's 100th. so many great memories with my wife and kids. Gotta love the game, and the Bloods.
This was an amazing compilation 👍👏 but there was a lot more stuff that could’ve gone in as well. Good job!

My Dad’s favourite moment was the 1989 GF Hawthorn vs Geelong.

@@christiansrensen5958 agree with you, though Quartermaine in most instances is/was a very ordinary commentator.
Quartermain was wondrous and mesmerizing as an AFL commentator as was Dennis Commetti. I like Anthony Hudson and Brenton Speed as I do with the great Rex Hunt (who has retired)
Great compilation, the only thing I know I would've added is the '97 Grand Final. Doesn't seem like much now, but at the time when the rivalry between South Australia and Victoria was probably its most volatile, the Crows walked into the Final facing a heavily favored and certainly crowd-backed Saints.
One-way rivalry. People cheering for the Saints because they've won only one flag since 1873.

I know that this might not be caught on video camera, but what about that Hawthorn 1976 Premireship and that photo with Peter Crimmins and his teammates that was taken at his home days before he tragically passed away from cancer?
I am sure that would have been one of the memorable moments going back in the 70s.

I have no idea how many times ('ve watched this already but I do know I'll watch it a hell of a lot more. I'd challenge any sport on the planet to produce the sort of highlights reel that you've got here.

And of course......Shuey killing off the Powers dreams was awesome......But repeating the performance to give us the flag in 2018 against the Pies.... That was when I knew I had reached Nirvana.

Malcolm Blight. I'm 55 years old, and every moment in this video makes me want to shout my lungs out. But that impossible, monster torp after the siren to win the game in 1976, which I watched on telly as a kid, blew the roof off my house, and remains the most epic moment among a star-studded gallery of them.

I’d like to see a top 100 ‘the greats’ moments.
You definitely had bunch in this vid but maybe clarify it to only have plays from those standout players.
If St Kilda had won the tied GF, Goddard's mark would go down in history up there with 'Jesaulenko, you beauty!'
The Leo Barry mark and Dom Sheed goal stand out so much. And the fact that the Swans in 05 and Port 04 were so lucky to make the GF. The thing that also stands out are the poor blokes that do something amazing and then have to put up with seventeen blokes who are nearly 100kg each piling on top of him. Well done, good compilation (that probably should have had Ablett's ruck and goal in the 89 GF and Manassa's run in the 77 replay)...and no Carey or Matthews is just weird
yeah, Carey and Mathews, 2 of the best players of the game. Never will we see the likes of either of them again

Great to hear mate! Good to see more US fans getting around aussie rules. Personally I'd support the Swans mate, cause I go for them. Judging by your UA-cam name, you go for the Steelers in the NFL. Their colours are yellow and black and so are the Richmond Tigers in the AFL, so you could support them cause of the same colours. Whatever is up to you though man! By the way mate I go for the saints in the NFL. #whodat :)
@@RilesMacca I’m a Vikings fan, we’ve never won a championship. I’ll support whichever AFL team has never won it all but frequently gets close enough to instill hope but then brutally smash it in the final moments of the match.

There's some Tiges content! Karmichael goal after the siren to beat us, Matty Whites running goal against us, the Jason MacCartney goal against us in his comeback game, and the GOTY that a lot of people didn't think should've been counted as a goal (the Jack Higgins goal against Collingwood). But other positive ones would be Sam Lloyd goal after siren to sink Swans, Michael Roach mark of the century, Chris Newmans monster goal against Freo, Cotchin spin and goal against Cats in 2017 qualifying, Michael Mitchell combo of goal and mark of the year in 1990

Nice vid! Was pretty upset dons only managed to be in about 4 clips (would have included tippas clutch goal against Kangas) but pretty good none the less.

26:09 Chris Yarran was one of the best players for Carlton in a long time. His story after his short career is insanely sad. He stopped playing due to mental health issues, and was sentenced to five years prison in 2019 for stealing cars and attacking police under the influence of meth. He is 30 today, just imagine if he was still playing.
Edit: essentially the same thing happened to Jurrah. He just went out of control. It's insane.

“LEO BARRY YOU STAR!!!” I will always remember being on the edge of my seat that whole game and he took that mark and I lost it, greatest feeling and first Sydney grand final win I got to experience, still gets me so pumped up
Really enjoyed the highlights, Half of them might not have happened had the games been umpired in 2022 such a shame the AFL seem hell bent on destroying the fabric of the game.
