- BRD Studio designed a compact off-grid home in Wooragee, Victoria, focusing on biophilic design principles. The house is situated to take advantage of the natural environment and features durable materials such as corrugated galvanised metal and cypress macrocarpa cladding. The interior incorporates local timber and granite, further connecting the home to its surroundings.
Living off-grid and in a home with strong biophilic design principles connects you to the cycles of nature, creating a deeper understanding and appreciation for the natural environment and inspiring sustainable practices for future generations.
The off-grid features include a passive solar design, a solar panel and battery system, and energy-efficient appliances. The homeowners appreciate the simplicity and sustainability of their rural lifestyle.

Yet again the channel brings a stunning, ground-breaking and sustainable family home. Yes a home! It has to work on so many levels. Siting, environment and the seasons. Why would you need more? I would live there in a heart-beat. In some ways basic yet it is designed to become part of the landscape and equally a family home. Love it! BRD Studio this is superb! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for coming to visit!
It reminds me of "Case en tôle" in Réunion island from my childhood. It was a typical construction for poor people with a lot of "tôle" (sheet metal). I love it !
What a great result - well done the building designers and owners ...
It doesn't feel small. Love the generous sized covered entrance, just what you need when 5 people are getting out of their rubber boots😊
Beautiful home and nicely documented
Love it
Iron your shirt😅
And don't slouch 😆
I'm not sure🤔 if they showed the master bedroom(?)😉 Personally,🤪 it don't have enough rooms for a family of five🫡, even if someone comes as a guest in a couple of years later(?)( especially when every child wants their own room )😅😅😅
and everything else is great 🎉
Awesome.
Looks like bits and bobs. A chook cage.
feels expensive...maybe its just the cool explanation
How much do you think it costed? And while I won’t share the exact figure, I’ll let you know if it was more or less
@@SimpleDwelling US$ 100,000
Oh yep, it costed more than $150,000AUD.
@@SimpleDwelling given the availability of the materials, I feel a biophilic design should be budget friendly nonetheless in a rural setting.
You’re right, the basic elements of biophilic design shouldn’t cost much. But a good amount of the budget was spent on the off-grid solar system, extra insulation and double-glazed windows.
I miss the music...😢
