Toby performed at 15 USO tours all over the world. He even flew into war zones to perform for them. He would then fly to areas where soldiers were that couldn't make it to the show to meet them. He would stay for hours just to meet them, sign autographs and take pictures with them. We lost a great patriot and a great man. He will be missed.
Toby did write it after 9/11 & it was originally JUST for the troops. One of the commanders told him he had to record it & that ALL Americans needed to hear it. So, Toby eventually did release it for the rest of it. 'American soldier' is great too. More mellow than this one.
I've bn watching Toby Keith reactions for a cpl wks (u must be doing same). I replied to u earlier on another & u replied back (appreciated wht u said back). Other part of my Iraq story is my wife & I (just celebrated 21st anniversary) were married only 5 days b4 I went. She stayed strong & supported me while I was gone. I'll always love & respect her for it. Sometimes I feel "the Troops" get all the "Thank Yous" but I keep in mind w/o good family back home, the Troops wldn't be able to do what they do. I agree w/u, seeing young people being positive on UA-cam gives me hope also. Not all kids today are "bad" (I hv amazing 18yr old daughter who puts flags on graves w/me on Nov. 11th & I ensure she respects some of the brave ladies who went b4 her). Did my best to "raise her right." Most of the American People are good no matter how they try to divide us.
This old vet thinks Toby was amazing as both an artist and the love he had for us vets. Seeing the Big Red 1 patch on the wall behind him and on the upper corner of his tank cert, yeah, that hits home for me. Salute my brother and sister veterans.
This song was definitely made to pump them up it's great my pap lost both his legs in ww2 stepping on a landmine these men put it all on the line everyday they deserve getting sang to
Glad you like Toby , great performer, singer , American, patriot , Raised money for children with Cancer to house them and families while receiving care in his home state , he was a devoted husband , father and family oriented, one of the few that did not move to Nashville , but stayed in OK . Great man , great human , RIP and thank you .
Toby supported the troops, maybe not the political strategy, but whatever the strategy, it was always for the men who have put their lives on the line for us!
This is his absolute song that made him a national treasure, with American soldier! Love love love this song and this man’s service to the troops behind enemy lines it wasn’t easy and he did it well he was and always will be loved for his service! They made him an honorary tank commander, he risked his life many times to sing for the troops he even sang “ the taliban song which is a spoof behind enemy lines lol he was hated by the enemy… a good thing! It is a military anthem for the troops. Need to listen to American soldier
Toby always had jokes... Except when he talked about the military. Give that man any other subject, jokes. But if the military was involved... tears. And for good reason. That man appreciated his country, his rights, and the soldiers who died defending those rights. And as an American and a Veteran I will always love Toby. I hope there is a heaven so I can finally shake his hand. Thank you to all my fellow patriots and service members who read this comment. And a special thank you to Toby. Because if it hadn't been for his support and the support of other service members and supporters, I probably would have given up years ago.
Another great 9/11 tribute is “Where were you when the world stopped turning?” by Alan Jackson. These two songs together represent the spectrum of emotions that Americans felt right after the tragedy. Toby sang about the angry American here and Alan represented the grief that we all felt. I highly recommend checking it out.
I love this song, must listen to Alan Jackson "Where Were You When The WOULD Stopped Turning" . It's about the 9/11 attack. Fabulous. Army brat myself.
I'm from Nebraska. I lived in Houston 12 years. All my exes live in Tx, yeah, yeah. (all one) I absolutely LOVED the TX attitude? They say what they mean, and mean what they say. I'm whitey-tighty. There was not any rascism back in the 80's. Most of my friends were blacks and hispanics. NO BIG DEAL? It's a shame how we have devolved. We used to hang out and do things together? Go to the gun range, whatever. I would always be in scruffy jeans and a t-shirt, and Rodney Woods, and a few of his buddies, and their GFs would always be dressed in their sunday best? To go to a gun range? lol. That always tripped me out. Blacks ALWAYS dressed to the nines, they took pride in how they looked. We all had a good time. I absolutely HATE how divided we have become. Good Luck and God Bless.
Toby Keith was great. I am a new subscriber and I would like for you to check out either who's that man or he's not worth missing. Those are some of Toby's older songs.
I enjoyed your reaction young man!! If you get a chance listen to The Star-Spangled banner as you've never heard it God bless you and yours and God bless the USA
Please take some moments to review "Boatlift" (narrated by Tom Hanks) about the 9-11 effort to evacuate NY during the attack. I think this should be required in High Schools as a part of their civic's curriculum. I would be interested in your take on that.
I never will understand why at the Superbowl they don’t get a good country singer. Toby would have been great. Kenny Chesney singing The Boys of Fall. 💩 that song is about football! Damn I’m on a rant. I’ll stop now…
RIP Toby Keith. The US lost a great American. Try Home Free/ Lee Greenwood/ US Air Force God Bless the USA. You did Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, try Pentatonix's version. Pentatonix has an "army"of followers called Pentaholics like Home Free has Home Fries and they do amazing things acapella.
This old vet thinks Toby was amazing as both an artist and the love he had for us vets. Seeing the Big Red 1 patch on the wall behind him and on the upper corner of his tank cert, yeah, that hits home for me. Salute my brother and sister veterans.

He did 11 USO Tours overseas and performed nearly 300 times for the troops. Including in combat zones.
You should hear Toby Keith sing American Soldier, it's a really great song.
If this song don’t make u smile, u aren’t American!!!!! RIP Toby Keith, a true American Patriot ❤
Toby's father died in March of 2001 and then 9/11 happened so both of these incidents inspired this song
Toby Keith, Cryin for me. Wayman’s song ❤❤❤❤❤
American Soldier is an amazing song too
I loved your reaction on this one! I loved it when you said this is like a second National Anthem!
Toby always had jokes... Except when he talked about the military. Give that man any other subject, jokes. But if the military was involved... tears. And for good reason. With Toby recently passing you should listen to Cryin for Me (Wayman's Song). Very appropriate today.
You need to look up Toby Keith talking about being behind enemy lines doing shows for the troops. It’s an awesome story.

I think people either smile through this song for all the energetic patriotism, or you cry for the 911 victims.
May I suggest that you turn your volume up just a bit on the video?
God rest his soul😢
I enjoyed your reaction young man!! If you get a chance listen to The Star-Spangled banner as you've never heard it
