  • The Highlanders are stiffer flexing, all mountain bindings. I am always a fan of more responsive bindings, so these are a good match for me.

I rode these on a variety of different boards, and to me they rode well on everything. They felt safe, I was never worried I was going to break a ratchet of have to do an emergency fix.
Their one difference from other brands is they have a soft heelcup, though in reality when everything is tight I don't know how much that is really adding to anything.

Love the shadow fit. I will never ride another binding

Sick review! Do you still ride these on the Dancehaul? Also do you still have the 47 or have you upped to the 52?

Thanks! I sold the Dancehaul a couple of years ago now to buy the Ride Zero, but I didn't actually ever ride the Highlanders on it. The Dancehaul pro is pretty high on my list to try this season.

@@SnowboardRobot ah fair enough! Will you be looking to try the same size as you did in the regular dancehaul with the pro being a stiffer model?

Coincidentally I was riding mine at Big White today.

Good review. I've been riding Holograms for 5 years and have experienced the same pressure at the heels with the Burton Swath, to the point where I had to get rid of the boots. The Imperials I had were fine after a couple of days but the Swaths became painful after a few runs and almost unbearable. The problem lies with boots with bulkier heel-area. The flexible heelcup tends to push them inwards (creating pressure from the side) when the binding is tightened. My Salomon boots are, of course, fine. It's therefore, IMO/ime, worth trying non-salomon boots in the bindings for a while before making the purchase, making sure you don't end-up with painful pressure points.

I'm surprised that you felt it with Burton, I did wonder how the Vans would do and was happy that I didn't notice anything.

As I said, the model matters. Swaths were too bulky and got extremely painful, so much so that I couldn't last more than a couple hours before giving up (even after I started alternately unstrapping each foot every run). The imperials (which have a much slimmer profile) were midly uncomfortable for a day or two (but nothing worth stopping for) and then were great once the outer shell and liners compressed a bit. That's why I always recommend trying boots with the shadowfit bindings before buying. Wearing them a while in the store to make sure. Selling my boots after only one day was really disappointing. I'm a HUGE shadowfit fan but having a good fitting boot is mandatory.@@SnowboardRobot

Hi, I just started watching your reviews and noticed you mention that you ride with a fairly narrow stance width and was wondering if you could share this measurement please?

Although it changes a bit from board to board, it normally ends up at about 21 1/2 inches wide. I generally ride back foot on the recommended position, with the front foot on the narrowest insert.

Loved the flex of the Holograms but man their ratchets were just terrible, the tiniest bit of snow and the teeth wouldn’t bite on the ladder

Oh really - I didn't have any problems with these, but I am not sure if the ratchets are different between Holograms and Highlanders

After two seasons of riding, the cable (which holds the heel arch) broke! The warranty was denied. Bindings are more than three years old from the production date. There is no trust in these bindings. The technology where the cable is used is not reliable! Be careful! Choose any other bindings but not Salomon. This technology is used in models: Salomon Hologram, Salomon Highlander, Salomon District. I wish you all safe riding! God bless you that this does not happen to you on the mountain slopes!

Oh that sucks, and surprises me it was denied. I worked in shops that used shadowfit bindings as the high performance rentals (so taking quite a lot of abuse), we didn't run into any issues luckily.
