- Somewhat surprisingly, this has been one of the most requested topics viewers have asked for since the DLC was released. There's just something about an especially big lizard that people particularly enjoy.

Since I didn't want to retread information I'd done in earlier videos, I skimmed over some specifics. If you're curious about things like Greyoll or the Archdragon from Dark Souls III, here are the previous two videos on the same topic:

Given its proximity to the location Charo's Hidden Grave, I've seen some people speculate the dragon itself might be Charo. Unfortunately, there's no obvious way to confirm or rule this out, and there are other potential candidates as well, so we're stuck with it just being an unknown entity for the foreseeable future.
If the dragon *is* Charo, it'd be very hard to hide their grave...
I would wager that perhaps that it is Not Charo, on account of the near-400m dragon’s grave being quite un-hidden lol
I wonder if its related to the big mother dragon at greyolls dragonbarrow, since the overlayed maps people have been doing show both their locations to be very close to one another

My memory may be foggy, but isn't the giant dragon supposed to be the dragon communion priestess right below it? I remember reading something about that giant dragon leaving their body and taking on a more human form to aid in the defeat of Bayle. The priestess also disappears after Bayle is defeated.
Can't wait for Armored Core 7 to introduce the 3 km long Mecha-dragon.

They're similar enough to share a common name, but their narrative roles in the mythologies that spawned them are quite distinct.

It's an eastern dragon. To me those are more elegant and cool looking. Eastern dragons used to be divine beings/deities. Where western dragons look fierce and portrayed as evil. PS: From where I belong there's no dragon in our mythology so I can compare both ig?

My favourite detail about this giant dragon is how its very blood seems to have soaked into the environment, creating the crimson biome right next to the cerulean one
I was noticing the color change and thinking "oh wait that's alotta blood😮"
That's a cool idea, but not what they were going for, I'm pretty sure. If you look closely at the flowers in the red region, they're not just red recolors of the blue flowers, they're spider lilies, a flower associated with horror and used as a symbol for death and mourning. Considering the area, I think that's more the intent.
i like how there's the area with red flowers, then one with blue, and then further down st trinas area is purple
My favorite part of Zullie videos is knowing that eventually a small question I had on a playthrough will get answered in some way with some great music!
Exactly, the moment I saw this bad boy on a first-feel stream. I knew Zulie would deliver. Glad to see my estimate ended up correct. I knew he had to be larger. Even tho, without being able to see the whole model, one could only speculate.

I was so excited when I noticed the dragon basically drawn on the map. It also made me a lot more comfortable standing in its mouth, noticing I was the same size a a single tooth, and then exploring the rest of the body for items.

I figured the dragon's name was Charo, considering the area name of where we find it(charo's hidden grave) and the fact that its the site of a massive dead dragon, but i probably am missing some lore context.

@@kianhrenak honestly i figured bayle and the jagged peak drakes killed it, like the rest of the dragon corpses, i've assumed they're all cannibals that devour one another for strength, hence why the heart is missing on Charo/unnamed dragon, i assumed bayle ate it.
The only problem is, I doesn't feel like much of a hidden grave...
Unless it's being hidden by its size as opposed to the other way around.
@@alyseleem2692 i didnt discover the area till way late in the DLC so maybe thats why it felt more "hidden" to me lol, kept seeing the giant dragon corpse area and wondered how to get there.
On the wing of the dragon, you can find a ‘dragon communion harpoon’, the only other way to get this is from crafting from ‘igon’s cookbook[1]’
Added to that, Igon has access to the ‘greyolls roar’ incantation. whilst we are the ones who kill greyoll, that tells me he obtained it from defeating a similarly large dragon
Not only that but the description of the dragon hunters great katana says that the Ancient dragon man was once an ‘arbiter’ of who could face Bayle. Meaning that someone had to prove themselves worthy of facing bayle before fighting him.
Just a theory, but I think our boy Igon was the one who took out this Super-drake. If true it only further cements his legendary status as Bayle-hating gigachad

For one thing, it's a harpoon in the back of his head. Secondly, and I don't think I ACTUALLY need to say this but I will anyways, it's a bit too big for Igon to wield...

My first thought upon seeing the giant dragon corpse was "Is it bigger than Gransax?" and Zullie didn't disappoint
in the souls team's design room, there is a dry erase board where ideas for the next entry are written down.
at some point i the past, someone wrote "more poison swamps" and "bigger dragons" in permanent marker on the board.

Is this dragon not Bayle? The Dragon Communion Altar next to it says commune with bayle for learning dragon spells, and it has a large hole in its stomach as if something clawed its way out, which seems like it could be the same size as Bayle the Dread in jagged peak.

One day, we'll get a full blown Shadow of the Colossus moment against one of these absolute units. Running along the dragon's back mid-flight, dodging lightning bolts, platforming around its scales to stay grounded as the dragon swoops and turns in an attempt to shake you off, attacking the horns and spikes along its back to deal damage. One day.

Given how amazing the world design is in both from software games and monolift soft games if the two joined together who knows what crazy beautiful stuff we would get out of that.
also interesting is we now have a defined difference between drakes, and their relation to arcane, and ancient dragons, who draw their power from faith. Also curious if all those dragon corpses are from infighting among the drakes, or from a combined assault against the traitor to plaucidusax.

This. I have been waiting since week 1 of ER to understand why there are drakes and dragons and how the hell they got so different. Learning about the 2 lineages was awesome. Also makes me curious about how the drakes tend to absorb elements that they eat/surround themeselves with - Ekzykes, Smarag, Adula and Borealis all gain new breath attacks and essentially bodily infusions of their new environment, but Ancient Dragons only wield lightning. Fortissax clearly shows some capability to adapt to new threats, though.
I think the corpses being a mix suggest a combined assault from the Ancient Dragons, being rebuffed by the Jagged Peak Drakes, who likely hold some loyalty to Bayle. It's possible that when the assault failed, the Drakes then turned on each other, perhaps?
I assumed all the corpses are from that one ancient dragon before you fight bayle. Cos that rare gravel stone you get from the corpses says it comes from an ancient dragon preying on drakes.
Or it's Bayle killing them cos not sure if he counts as an ancient dragon or not really even though he is the oldest drake

to think there are dragons in ER that make Bayle and Placidusax look like the Mist Noble. pretty terrifying to picture dragons THAT big at full power. I do wonder whether, despite his diminutive size in comparison, Placidusax would still beat both Gransax and this huge, unnamed dragon in fights given his title as Dragonlord
We learn in the DLC that Placidusax doesn't even consider creatures like this to be real dragons. He declared that they should all be hunted for sport and have their hearts eaten.
I also believe much like our tarnished and many other character of human size can take on colossal enemies, Placidusax being Elden Lord would be able to hunt those giant dragons with relative ease
Funnily enough these big dragons are (lore wise) probably far weaker than Bayle and Placidusax
The big dragon is killed by a big stone spear that looks like the Cragblade you get from Placi’s remembrance so it might’ve even been personally killed by Placidusax

This dragon takes up a non-negligable amount of the entire map, really nuts
I'm most looking forward to some good camera angles on the entire shadow lands map, to get a sense of the immense verticality. The abyssal woods, how tall vs wide the map is, etc. Seeing this video just got me excited to see how the dragon looks in comparison to the whole island
Also please please please, if you can spare the time, can you figure out how deep the abyssal woods is below sea level?

One thing that’s cool about FromSoft games is how they’re always long after the biggest powers are past their prime. To the point that this probably legendary Dragon is just a landmark on the map.
What's crazier than the huge dragon is the giant arrow stuck in it. According to the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword, that arrow was the weapon of the "old gods," at least one of whom was clearly on Placidusax's side in the conflict between the drakes and ancient dragons.
Yeah it is crazy to image who or what killed it. Only the full might of Leyndell Royal Capital managed to bring down Gransax.

I think my favorite part of this new super dragon is that, as far as i can tell, there is literally no lore on it. Not even a name! Gransax almost leveled a city and left behind a legendary weapon. Greyoll is the mother of all drakes. Placidusax is the Elden Lord of a bygone era. Bayle is a bastard and fuck his lazer beam forever.
Then there's dead superdrake, who is definitely just... there, I guess.

There is environmental lore on it. We can see how he died. He died from a titanic harpoon being lodged into the back of its head. The harpoon bears the appearance of jagged stone, and has a smooth groove running down its middle, as if it was meant for a contraption rather than a giant hand.
The nature of the giant harpoon, the texture of it, is reminiscent of something you'd see in Farum Azula, so a wild guess would be that the giant dragon was killed by a weapon made and possibly launched from Farum Azula.
My theory is that it's Bayless wife 💀
Could be Charo since Charo's hidden grave is hidden behind the corpse, full of red flowers that possibly got their color from all the dragon blood

I'd assume the lore accurate size of Bayle and Placidusax is closer to Granssax and "Charo", Fromsoft made them smaller for gameplay reasons.
I was actually dissapointed when I first saw bayle cos they really built him up to be this ultimate black dragon and I was getting heavy balerion and the one form silmarillion vibes. But he is a cool dragon in the end none the less
@@joesheridan9451 I think there are a lot of positives there in terms of mechanics. I haaaated Midir. It was annoying as hell waiting for him to stop lumbering around so I could hit him in the head once before he started doing it again.
Bayle meanwhile is quite aggressive and doesn't spend half the fight running away from you.
But that does make him kinda easy in the end. I one shot him on my second playthrough of the DLC and I wasn't even trying.
Maybe it's just inevitable that dragons and other large monsters are always going to be a weak point due to From's combat system?
@@joesheridan9451 My head canon is that dragons, gods and other powerful beings shrink in size after being significantly weakened. I like to think that both Bayle and Placidusax were colossal too before their feud lol

I think the giant dead dragon in the expansion is Charo. Red flowers on its trail signifies that a blood was spilled there. There is a recurring concept of flowers sprouting from a blood such is the case with Miquella, Trina, and drake warriors.

It’s believed that that dragons name is Charo. There’s an area behind that dragon obviously named “Charos Hidden Grave”, could be a reference to which the dragon now rests and guards entry. The back of the dragon is impaled by which seems to be a large spike or a harpoon, something you can read the description of the one you get nearby! Pretty interesting

And another detail I think needs mentioning is the giant stone pillar sticking out of the giant-drake.
1. Did bayle impale the drake over the pillar?
2. Did bayle pick up the pillar and "rules of nature" it at the drake?
Plus, the pillar isn't some sort of dragon stone, it's got details on it
i don't think Bayle killed that dragon - there is no lore or item or
dialogue to say who the dragon was or who killed it - but the stone thing is
like a huge lance piercing it. So i'm thinking it wasn't Bayle.
Are we sure it was Bayle who killed it? I figured it was an ancient dragon or a communion knight, given that it's a drake and that the Grand Altar of Communion is right next to it.
