Thanks this talk brought back a lot of memories. Way back in the 90's I was a weapons specialist/gun wrangler for for films. I worked on a few cop films, 2 WWII movies and quite a few of Rap music videos. I will say that my job was 1st and foremost to keep the actors and crew safe and with pride no one ever got hurt when I was on the job. Believe it or not blank cartridges are dangerous and can kill at very close range. So even film set firearms can be dangerous.
I'm old enough to remember what happened to the late actor Jon-Erik Hexum. He was playing around with a gun loaded with blanks and accidentally killed himself.
@@tocaicetea8142 Very sad and I always used his example as to why blanks were dangerous. Also that was shortly after the Branden Lee tragedy and being in the biz, I knew exactly what went wrong and why. I also used his case as to why I did things a certain way.
Interestingly enough, the P90 was actually developed towards the end of the Cold War as a last resort weapon for rear echelon troops to replace existing 9mm weapons. There was worry about 9mm not penetrating the body armor of Russian troops hence the 5.7x28 armor piercing cartridge. Since then of course it's been used by various police forces and special forces, but it's interesting that the P90 was developed initially as a last resort personal defence weapon. Featured often in pop culture, likely due to the unique design!

The coolest use of a gun in the movies is Bond shooting Professor Dent in Dr No Bond using a 44 Magnum in LALD plus he also had that compressed air bullet gun And the Shuttle Lazer in Moonraker 😁 Bond using the sniper weapon in TLD
@Gary Bryant, The Sniper Rifle seen in The Living Daylights is a Walther WA 2000. At the time of filming Walther was attempting to sell it to the military forces of Europe. Sadly despite its range and stopping power, its overall cost per unit was just too much and Walther stopped making them in 1988. Thankfully, it has gone on to fame in many movies and video games including several of the James Bond games from Activision.
Just some additional info, which Commando Bond missed to mention! The PP in Walther PP stands for Polizei Pistol and was meant for uniformed police officers in West Germany. The PPK stands for Polizei Pistol Kriminal and it was designed with a smaller frame for plain cloth detectives for better concealed carry. One was not better, or more reliable than the other!
This was a lot of fun, and I like the website! One point of correction - Glocks haven't been "one size fits all" since Gen3. Starting around 2010 or so (might have been a little earlier), Gen4, and since about 2018, Gen5, all have had modular backstrap systems. I will grant that I think Walther got there first, though, with the P99.
Thanks so much for your videos on these aspects of the Bond franchise. I'm currently working on a James Bond story of my own and struggling with my lack of knowledge of guns, cars etc. I think it's important to get the details right and these videos are helpful and informative.
Trigger indexing wasn’t really a thing in the 60’s and early 70’s. Most of us boomers got our firearms education from our fathers who were WW2 veterans. Muzzle awareness was always emphasized but if you look at old WW2 clips almost all the GI’s have their fingers inside the trigger guard. Also the Sterling is a sub machine gun. No one that I know would refer to it as a pistol caliber carbine.
Correction! Daniel Craig did use a PPK later in the Casino Royale when he is hanging upside down on a rope in a tower in Venice and shoots a bad guy, and you have a picture of this very scene in your video. Also there was a full toy kit copy version of the Camera Rifle sold as used by Timothy Dalton, I think Lone Star toys made it back in the day, now I'm sure I've seen them for sale on eBay.

I too was a bit apprehensive when I shot a .44 for the first time, but it ended up becoming one of the guns I'm the most accurate with. It's got some kick that's for sure!
Overall enjoyable Episode. The Sterling was a big improvement over the Sten (which he mis identified), it was common issue still in the 1960's and 1970's.
The Armalite A.R 7 was developed in 1959, for the U.S.A.F. It was not used in W.W.2 ,which ended in 1945.,and was never called a "sniper rifle" you also misidentified a Sterling with a STEN, They are both fully automatic sub- machine guns,not pistol caliber carbines. I am very dubious about your guest being an expert. He might be a great guy,but he doesn't know enough about firearms to be an "expert".

It's very nice to see Bond use the MK18 MOD 0!! However, I think it would have been more accurate if Bond used the SIG MCX since it is one of the various rifles the SAS uses and it complements Bond's SIG 226
Bond should have been issued a Walther PPQ (or more fittingly a PPX for it's more compact size) when he first met Q in the art gallery. The Q designation in the pistol fits perfectly for both the model and obviously reference to Q Branch. The signature version being fitted with a palm print reader - although better seamlessly integrated and not as conspicuous as the PPK version.

Great video, but I must correct you: the submachinegun pictured at 16:00 mark is not a STEN but a Sterling smg, its successor. Developed by the british at the end of WWII it only seen testing in the field and become standard issue smg of UK and some Commenwealth countries , in fact still sees use with Indian police force today. It was phased out from UK armed forces use in the 80's.
I was 3 seconds off the call and turned white in agony lol. I consistently say Sten and Sterling wrong back to back-correction is very well warranted because they are spectacular firearms in their own right 🍸🍸
Surprisingly, the Sterling can still be found throughout the Middle East being used by Middle Eastern insurgent groups. Even though it is a relic of the Cold War, it is cool to know that an old weapon is still used in present day at other parts of the world
One slight correction: in Casino Royale, Bond is actually wearing a belt during the free running scenes but for some reason the belt disappeared when he went to draw his p99
I took your advice from several of your videos about living the lifestyle and finding the things and expenses that you can justify. The first real Bond item I bought was a PPK. It was something I could justify practically for my lifestyle and profession.
Got an airsoft Walther PPK in my collection at home. It is quite fun to shoot and I even have a replica of the shoulder holster seen in Licence To Kill that I use to display it. I also have an airsoft P99 and a Vega IWB #332 holster(seen in Casino Royale) .
Wheel gun and reloading: Just (re)read Dr. No, and Fleming has Bond considering between taking the auto or the revolver to the island. He choses the revolver because he anticipates longer range engagements, but places ten extra rounds, loose, in his pant pocket.

Caleb is wrong..he looks about 12...the gun was not in WW2 or Korea....It was made for Vietnam pilots who were shot down.....Most Vietnam pilots had a Smith model 10/12 .38 as a side arm.....the AR7 was made around 1959...by armalite as a survival rifle along with a K-bar....some had Randall knives like John MccCain did.
I would say it wasn't! I absolutely love mine! It's a fantastic pistol that takes the identity of the PPK (incredible innovation etc) and brings it into the modern world. Paired with the PPK, it's an incredible combination!
There are technically some that do the palm reading thing. The whole “smart gun” thing. They don’t work but technically they do work. I saw a report on a prototype of one that was made a wheelie back

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought a 9mm short was just a euphemistic way of getting around calling it a .380? It seems like they called it this in Spectre to avoid any frowns of disapproval by big caliber gun snobs for what might be considered a round of marginal stopping power. And Flaming’s choice of a functional yet underwhelming pistol for his hero seems to illustrate his image as a designer of wild clandestine operations rather than an actual operative with field experience. That and his shocking lack of physical fitness even for his day. “Ten press ups and sun tanning.”😄
I believe calling 380 ACP a 9mm short is due to the German designation of the calibre. The Germans would call it 9mm Kurtz (roughly translated to 9mm compact or short)
Good point, that is a better explanation. It’s interesting that the 9mm and 380 seem to have to same bullet diameter, but the 9mm has a longer cartridge.
It's a bit strange that Craig' Bond uses a PPK in Quantum of Solace instead of the P99 especially since it takes place hours after Casino Royale. Also, Craig should've switched to a Walther PPQ in Skyfall because the PPK is very dated since it dates all the way back to WWII. Hitler used it to commit suicide for God's sake!
In all honesty I feel the PPK has been over utilized in the Craig era. I get the whole nostalgia factor and Bond 'doing more with less' approach, but he should have ditched the PPK after losing the palm print signature version in Skyfall and transitioned to a more contemporary and pragmatic sidearm such as the PPQ or PPX. Seeing him dressed up all quasi tactical looking in NTTD with the thigh holster and antiquated PPK looks very tacky and anachronistic!
Bond always looks best with just a handgun, Brosnan running around with a machine gun like Stallone was a terrible look in Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies

It's very nice to see Bond use the MK18 MOD 0!! However, I think it would have been more accurate if Bond used the SIG MCX since it is one of the various rifles the SAS uses and it complements Bond's SIG 226

Bond should have been issued a Walther PPQ (or more fittingly a PPX for it's more compact size) when he first met Q in the art gallery. The Q designation in the pistol fits perfectly for both the model and obviously reference to Q Branch. The signature version being fitted with a palm print reader - although better seamlessly integrated and not as conspicuous as the PPK version.
Never heard of Commando Bond. Thanks for introducing us to him.
In the British Army we carried the Sub Machine Gun (SMG) up to the mid-80s. NB Holding the magazine whilst firing was a recipe for a stoppage!

Great video, but I must correct you: the submachinegun pictured at 16:00 mark is not a STEN but a Sterling smg, its successor. Developed by the british at the end of WWII it only seen testing in the field and become standard issue smg of UK and some Commenwealth countries , in fact still sees use with Indian police force today. It was phased out from UK armed forces use in the 80's.
I was 3 seconds off the call and turned white in agony lol. I consistently say Sten and Sterling wrong back to back-correction is very well warranted because they are spectacular firearms in their own right 🍸🍸

Surprisingly, the Sterling can still be found throughout the Middle East being used by Middle Eastern insurgent groups. Even though it is a relic of the Cold War, it is cool to know that an old weapon is still used in present day at other parts of the world

One slight correction: in Casino Royale, Bond is actually wearing a belt during the free running scenes but for some reason the belt disappeared when he went to draw his p99
I took your advice from several of your videos about living the lifestyle and finding the things and expenses that you can justify. The first real Bond item I bought was a PPK. It was something I could justify practically for my lifestyle and profession.

Got an airsoft Walther PPK in my collection at home. It is quite fun to shoot and I even have a replica of the shoulder holster seen in Licence To Kill that I use to display it. I also have an airsoft P99 and a Vega IWB #332 holster(seen in Casino Royale) .
Same here! PPK BB gun on display and the modern version, 9mm PPS, in the safe.
Wheel gun and reloading: Just (re)read Dr. No, and Fleming has Bond considering between taking the auto or the revolver to the island. He choses the revolver because he anticipates longer range engagements, but places ten extra rounds, loose, in his pant pocket.

Equally would Bond use only sub-supersonic ammunition, or standard military cartridge rounds, or some new future classified hypersonic round, which goes through all known advance body armour, like a blow torch or laser too?
Or could a future Bond, be issued by “Q”, with some advanced combined Lethal and Non-Lethal Energy 30 (lethal shots) to 50 (Non-lethal shots) firing (with rechargeable battery energy interchangeable magazines) Pistol, which can kill or just stun any future enemy.
Though all Bond has to do to recharge his new advanced combined Lethal and Non-Lethal Energy 30/50-Shot Firing Pistol, is plug it into his new Aston Martin fully Electric Sports Couple, maybe called a DB-15E too?
Or Bond can plug his new advanced combined Lethal and Non-Lethal Energy 30/50-shoot firing Pistol, just into the nearest Overseas Luxury 5/6 or 7-Star International Hotel Suit Bond is staying in.

Or with a secret built-in Satellite GPS Security transmitter, so the new “M” know where new Bond is at all time?
Or with a built-in pistol grip and trigger finger print security optic-reader too?
So only Bond can fire his personal weapon too, you do not want a future evil bad guy’s or enemy female agents, using and turn Bond’s own gun on himself and shooting Bond with his own gun now do we?
As well as will the next Bond Gun if a pistol, have standard magazines, or extended magazines, or high capacity magazine, or the option of all three?
Or could we see Bond issued with a high capacity, 7 or 8 maybe 9 round cylinder revolver, for the likes of .357 SIG bottlenecked rimless centre-fire handgun cartridge, or other .357 Magnum bullet, or a modern .380 Auto cartridges?
Or will we see a return, or a newer version, of the clip-on Pistol Butt Stock and hand gun and silcener plus other pistol attachments storage case in one?
Especially if a future Bond pistol has three-round burst fire or fully automatic fire capabilities, Bond would need a Clip-on and easy to remove Pistol Butt Stock attachment then!
So could James Bond next gun, be one of the new SIG Sauer Pistols?
Or will James Bond, always use a Walther pistol of some kind, maybe a newer version of the old PPK, though in a large chambered calibre maybe in .40 S&W calibre or 10mm Auto, with 8+1 or 10+1 rounds too?
Or will you see a new “Q” issuing the next Bond, with either a Glock pistol, or with a Smith & Wesson pistol?
Or maybe with a Beretta pistol, or with a FN Herstal pistol, or with a Colt pistol, or with a CZ pistol?
Or equally with a Dan Wesson pistol, or with a Heckler & Koch pistol, or a Kimber pistol, or a Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc pistol?
Or similarly Bond issued with old a Para-Ordnance 1911 Double stack .45ACP pistol, or a Remington Arms 1911 Double stack 9mm or 10mm pistol?
Or will te new “Q” issue the new Bond with a pistol or a revolver, from some other gun manufacture, to become the next famous James Bond Gun?
Or will the next James Bond pistol or revolver, be some kind of specialist upgraded improved customised firearm?
That is from one of the leading world’s specialist armoury manufacturers, of customised hand guns, as in the guns used in the John Wick movies now seem to be?
Or could the FN Five-seveN USG pistol with twenty FN 5.7×28mm rounds, be the next James Bond gun too?
We had enough, over the international news media talking about, who or which male actor or female actress, could or should play the next Commander Bond James Bond, or Ms Bond Jamie Bond too?
We want to know, is what will be the next gun Bond will carry and fire, is more important to some of us Bond and fire arms fan’s?
Maybe someone should take these suggestions, up with the Bond Movie Producers, as as new Bond needs and should have a new personal concealed weapon too?

Caleb is wrong..he looks about 12...the gun was not in WW2 or Korea....It was made for Vietnam pilots who were shot down.....Most Vietnam pilots had a Smith model 10/12 .38 as a side arm.....the AR7 was made around 1959...by armalite as a survival rifle along with a K-bar....some had Randall knives like John MccCain did.

I've heard that they are a great gun but the ppk is just too iconic and has more of a legacy because of how old they are.
I would say it wasn't! I absolutely love mine! It's a fantastic pistol that takes the identity of the PPK (incredible innovation etc) and brings it into the modern world. Paired with the PPK, it's an incredible combination!
Brosnan having the P99 was one of the many ways EON wanted to make Bond more modern by giving him an updated Walther handgun at that time

Bonds Rifle in NTTD looks like or similar to MK-18 I built a shorty Pistol MK-18 Myself CHF Chrome Lined Barrel . With a "Pistol Brace " on it.

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought a 9mm short was just a euphemistic way of getting around calling it a .380? It seems like they called it this in Spectre to avoid any frowns of disapproval by big caliber gun snobs for what might be considered a round of marginal stopping power. And Flaming’s choice of a functional yet underwhelming pistol for his hero seems to illustrate his image as a designer of wild clandestine operations rather than an actual operative with field experience. That and his shocking lack of physical fitness even for his day. “Ten press ups and sun tanning.”😄
I believe calling 380 ACP a 9mm short is due to the German designation of the calibre. The Germans would call it 9mm Kurtz (roughly translated to 9mm compact or short)
Good point, that is a better explanation. It’s interesting that the 9mm and 380 seem to have to same bullet diameter, but the 9mm has a longer cartridge.

It's a bit strange that Craig' Bond uses a PPK in Quantum of Solace instead of the P99 especially since it takes place hours after Casino Royale. Also, Craig should've switched to a Walther PPQ in Skyfall because the PPK is very dated since it dates all the way back to WWII. Hitler used it to commit suicide for God's sake!

He most likely lost the P99 during the incident in Venice. Probably resorted to the PPK afterwards!

In all honesty I feel the PPK has been over utilized in the Craig era. I get the whole nostalgia factor and Bond 'doing more with less' approach, but he should have ditched the PPK after losing the palm print signature version in Skyfall and transitioned to a more contemporary and pragmatic sidearm such as the PPQ or PPX. Seeing him dressed up all quasi tactical looking in NTTD with the thigh holster and antiquated PPK looks very tacky and anachronistic!
Bond always looks best with just a handgun, Brosnan running around with a machine gun like Stallone was a terrible look in Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies
