The Blacklist soundtrack brought me here. I have to admit, I enjoyed listening to this gentleman. I spent a year working with the IDF in Israel and miss that country, culture and people.

I should point out that Chonorod, Elisabetgrad (also know by various other names) is in Ukraine, not Russia. Of Course Ukraine was then part of the Russian Empire and after WW1 part of the Soviet Union.
Arkhangelsk was the land that once belonged to Poland. Then taken by Russia. Ukraine was never a state, only for a short time in the 20th century when Poland helped them. All Russian Jews are Polish Jews who lived in Polish lands before Russia took them. Nowhere in Europe did Jews live as well as in Poland. Praise Poland for accepting Jews and allowing them to cultivate religion and tradition. The synagogue in Warsaw, in the capital of Poland, was called the eighth wonder of the world until the Germans destroyed it during World War II (they set it on fire so that there would be no trace of Jewish religion and culture).
The specific implementation, the arrangement, is of course Kwartin's; but the general melodious chant on which it is based, I believe, is traditional, and dates a few centuries back.
Elliot B it is said that upon hearing this piece of music the great rabbi of Belz commented that the cantor must of felt remorse about his lack of religious commitment whilst singing this song
I'm sure Avraham Fried would not wish to be compared because I havevseen how respectful he is of all musicians. They are both remarkable but in totally different ways, like different universes. Different generations, different messages. Each perfect in his own right.
You shouldn't compare anyone in this industry, you should enjoy each singer by himself, not compared to others, also this specific chazzan can little sing cries and with an atomic bomb of emotions, something that avaraham fried lacks of...
Grandes Cantores .Muchisimas Gracias a la persona que hace posible de ❤ gracias todah rabah ..
Chazzan Kwartin's rendition of Tiher Rabbi Yishmael Atzmo is indisputably one of the greatest and moving pieces of chazzanut of all time.

Great
I wonder when this was recorded?. 30's 40's?. Very touching
Before 1952 when he died
I believe it dates from between 1908 and 1915
June 6th 1928, to be precise.
בגלל הקול, הקול, הסוף של הקטע דומה לקטע "ברח דודי".

Who composed these melodies?

Interesting that someone who was reputed not to be that religious could sing with such fervent emotion
Elliot B it is said that upon hearing this piece of music the great rabbi of Belz commented that the cantor must of felt remorse about his lack of religious commitment whilst singing this song
