What riff inspired you to play guitar? Let me know down in the comments!
I love you two bt cmoon AND JUSTICE FOR ALL ;)
Hearing my friend playing One by Metallica
Switchfoot - Meant to Live
The solo from Run to the Hills made me buy a guitar
Kohn Browne? is that on purpose?
I could sit here and listen to you guys talk about music for ages! You have to make more content together !
If anyone wonders what song he plays from Monuments as a demonstration: it's Cardinal Red....and it's a fucking banger.
Hering John say he was a fan of Follow the Reaper warms my heart. Rip Alexi
Metallica changed my life. My brother (R.I.P.) showed them to me when I was 5 or 6 and I was hooked ever since. He also started teaching me guitar a year or two later, although all I wanted to learn was Metallica songs, and has made me a lifelong Metalhead (although I enjoy all kinds of music). As difficult as it is for me to pick between Puppets or Justice, Justice has always been my happy place. I love that album so much! Every song is classic (as is pretty much all of their entire early catalogue, and yea, I like Load as well, although they kind of lost me w Reload.
After the Metallica discussion, 27:10 topic reminds me of the Battery riff feeling so different when it "starts" on 2nd note (after the solo)
Mendel as a long time fan and supporter of your channel, I think this was a great interview. But, I think you should do one back in your studio and explain / go over how [ you ] see the neck. Scales, or just shapes? Not a video of just shredding but more like ' This is how I view the neck [ gives some examples ] and when I write I tend to [ examples ]. We each have our way of looking at the neck. We each have our own way of understanding modes. Just cover those topics, your views, what held you back at times, examples of learning something and seeing it from a different angle and thus opening up a new musical path to explore. Just what your thinking and how you start with something small and maybe things you do when you get stuck with a progression. A long format, laid back 30m or w/e video. I find these types of videos most fascinating because we are getting to hear how they view scales and theory and modes which could help many players. I hope you do. Wishing you and your loved ones the best my friend.
Do this video segment again..... and again..... and again....
This was pure entertainment and, better yet.... very inspiring! Awesome stuff...
Storm Rider by Iced Earth made 11 year old me want to be a rhythm guitarist. Schaffer had a great right hand.
Sad but True made me want to play the guitar more than any other song or riff. So much so that I finally bought a guitar at age 31 just to learn Metallica. I'm 37 now, and my tastes have changed since then, but I have been hopelessly addicted to playing ever since. Now I mostly look up to guys like John, I love his style of riffing and he has such a sick tight right hand attack.
We need at least 5 series of this amazing guitar tv show)))
OMG to hear John mention Balance of Power!!! Absolutely loved those guys !! 🤘🤘🤘
the exact same thing happened to me with the song plug in baby
I strive to be at least half as cool as these two gentlemen! ❤
The thing with passing through the natural sixth while in minor is that it gives you two possibilities for chords: a min7b5 chord for that dorian sound and a min7 chord for that "modern sound"
This vid is a goldmine. Would honestly watch 5 hours of you two talking. Also yeah the 3 scales thing, true af for some reason. Great video
Brutal brothers !!!
You both are amazing, LEGENDS!
great stuff, patiently waiting for the 5 hour follow up video
Loved the analogies related to food.🌶
In their albums, Meshuggah started to do new stuff. The percussive guitar attack interests me as a thing to try to emulate. Their approach is a VERY interesting technique. Must investigate. (Hi from Houston, Browne!!)
20:35 wisdom
As I lay dyings undefined
I play my metal on Fender Tele Mexican. The best neck to shred I have ever had.And I have Solar as well. But I love Fender.
Battery by Metallica and Ode from Creed first got me on guitar when I was a kid.
First riff I learned on acoustic guitar was "Ich Will" by Rammstein. I must admit that band was quite something for young teenage mind haha
It was first band where I liked the walll of distorted guitars so much i started really comparing guitar tones of different bands. I remember It sounded so unbelivable heavy for me. Now if I try to play drop_D riffs on drop_B guitar it sounds rather thin. That's how 18 years of guitarplaying change your perspective on tone :D
Slay queen ❤
Jooooohn
what is the monuments song jb plays here? i gotta check it outt
John's just chilling before the release of his ampsim plugin from Neural DSP (just a wild guess)
Iron maiden- afraid to shoot strangers. The irony is that im not even an iron maiden fan😂
there's the door... lol..
16:35 ... invadin? ))
St Anger's got Lars best drumming for me, trash can be damned. Makes me wish bands would revisit/reinterpret their gaffs.
Am I the only one who's favorite Metallica album is And justice for all....
10:26 is there a death metal band that doesn't use whole halftone/symmetrical diminished? there are definitely bands that wrote riffs with whole tone also. doesn't seem unique to meshuggah
Your contribution to aborted was incredible
Awesome. Thanks.
2 times 4 😂
You guys would be crucified in the US for those racial jokes.
Nah. Only by the most uptight A-holes. Normal people get jokes over here.
Only on twitter. Most people here are normal
