- Video I took back about 1991 during an airdrop training mission from Norton AFB. We flew a low level over Big Bear then by Sultan Sea then the drop zone. Total of 3 CDS bundles were dropped at Camalot DZ near El Centro California. The video starts from a touch and go landing which is why the takeoff roll is so short.
3:29 minutes, Big Bear lake then ski slopes.
3:53 minutes, Sultan Sea.
7:00 minutes, Two C-141's exiting the drop zone.
8:49 minutes, Green smoke on drop zone.
Retired for many years as a C-141 engineer and still watch these videos daily! I sure miss being there but thanks for the reminder of good times! I'm pretty sure that's me at the engineer's panel on this flight.
Ah miss those days out of the 68th AES, thanks for the memories.
The GPWS didn't seem to like those mountains. Whoop whoop! Pull up!
Good to see 141s and SoCal again.
Funny how certain sounds can bring back old feelings. Hearing the hydraulic system on the old bird just took me back a few years. :-)
Brings back memories for me, too. I was a nav in the 53rd (75-80, 85-86). I remember the Salton (not sultan) Sea and Camalot very well.
This brings back a lot of memories, I was an FE with the 14th MAS at Norton 79-89 thanks for sharing :)
Great video. I was a 141 loadmaster from 84 to 98 out of McChord and Charleston. Did lots of cds. I miss it.
I was in the 14th Squadron at the time, I remember this well. Great times with my fellow Peligators!
Sure brings back memories. I was loadmaster on the C-141 from late 1969 to 1972, assigned to the 730MAS/ 944MAG, an Associate Reserve unit at Norton AFB. Spent many hours on these training missions that included navigator training to Yuma and then airdrop at El Centro. Had lots of adventures flying the Pacific missions. Coming from a year in Vietnam in OV1 Mohawks as an observer (131SAC at Phu Bai,) and getting into the Cadillac of transports was a great experience. I remember the smooth approach over Salton sea and the roller coaster ride to the IP over the dunes. What a hoot.
My dad was a C-141A pilot and he said they were dropping jeeps one night and one of the pilots mistook a blinking light in the ground as the drop zone. He dropped a load of jeeps in a farmers field and wouldn't give them back. We were in Dover at the time.
The light was a blinking traffic light in a small town. :-)
He delivered one of the 1st C-141's to McChord.

Don't tell anybody.. don't tell anyone were compartment A and B is and was for bags are supposed to be stored. 😎 Not just a place carry the cases of beer and keep them cold.. Yeah at the time with the trip seats up front and a crew bags in front of them had to get them out of their way so we could jettison cargo boys and girls.. always wake up and smell the roses
Thanks Neal!

LeftyLucyRightyTyty why did you get out after four years?
Barry Obama I really dug the airplanes...just wasn't get'n off on the Military...check my channel out, see what I'm doin' now..
I loved the C-141's and enjoyed the flights that I had on them as well. It was a nice airplane to work on and the job I had of loading cargo on, and removing it from the airplane was nice as well. I loved it much more than I did the C-5, and the C-130's which was difficult to work on.
RE: jetjockey, yes it does. Message sent..
