I shelved my 01' AZ2204 because of the terrible tuners and am sure glad that I found your video. I'll be ordering these ASAP! I love my guitar but I hate Ibanez/Gotoh. I wouldn't take another Ibanez if it were free. They don't stand behind their work and I had to jump through many hoops to get a single replacement tuner, under warranty, because the nuts would strip out. Thanx for the alternative fix!!
How would you compare this guitar with the tuner fix to the Charvel Guthrie MJ for playability and overall quality? Do you prefer the neck on either more? I feel like I would like the neck heel on the Ibanez more, but that's a small detail I suppose. I'm actually looking at the new MMN1 Ibanez, not the MM1 here, but it comes with regular locking tuners like what you used here. MMN1 also has a compound radius(228mm to 305mm), which of course the Guthrie also has, but at a flatter 304.8mm to 406.4mm. Thanks for everything you do here!
Well I just saw your comment below about Guthrie vs AZ. After a year now, do you still prefer the Guthrie? Not too worried about pickups, as I may change them. Mostly tuning stability and the neck feel. I would think the graphite rods in the Guthrie would make it slightly more stable across varied conditions.
@@cseaton42 Congrats to your MMN1. After changing tuners I think the tuning stability is on the same level. Playability is great on both guitars - the Ibanez neck is a bit thicker but not too thick. Personally I think it's good having guitars with different neck profiles, it also can be a disadvantage if you get too used to something...
@@RockGuitarVibes Thanks for the quick reply! To be clear, have not got the MMN1 yet. I may go with it simply because it is blue and I'm partial to blue guitars.
Just got my MM1 and I love it. The seller didn’t do a setup and I’m surprised it needs one. I get muted notes when doing bends on the higher frets. Any advice friend?
Hm, the first thing I would try is to adjust the truss rod - in most cases this will fix the issue. On the low E string put your finger on the first fret - with the other hand press on the 24th fret. Adjust the truss rod until the space between the fret and the string is the thickness of a piece of paper - then it's perfect. If the issue still occurs try to adjust the saddles and the bridge.
But dude!! you have all the good guitars!!! 😁😁 I have to choose my new guitar... AZ prestige or Guthrie Govan MJ...??? I'm lost, Just looking for a versatile guitar and honnestly I don't know which one to buy
I have a $3600 Koa wood AZ 2204 I even payed to have it pleked and it still has a sitar effect on almost all strings. I hate those tuners also. When I look up these tuners all I find are 3 per side not 3 inline
You dont really need to use a screwdriver when you change strings.. Only if a string breaks. What you should have done is that when you release the string and the string goes slack and the string still is locked in place you just hold on to the string while turning the tuning peg just like you did and just put tension on the string then the lock will release after a while.
@@RockGuitarVibes I see. I agree that these tuners are unnecessary complicated.. Also I believe there is something wrong with the design because I can see that they are tilted when under string tension which tells me there is to much play inside and this can cause tuning stability issues.. I also have the same tuners as you swapped to on the way. Did you notice any difference with tuning stability? Also was the staggering correct or did you notice any problem with buzzing or sitar like sounds after the swap?
@RockGuitarVibes I was wondering the same thing. They seem to be Gotoh SG381-07 MG-T Locking 6R C or Gotoh SG381-07 MG-T Locking 6L C Looking up the part number on your box it seems to point the the L version. So is that what you need if you're a right handed player ? Thanks great video btw
I've ordered the Gotoh SG381-07 MG-T Locking 6R C for this same guitar but had to return them because the tuners where reversed angled. So get the other set.@@ian2lorimer
Thanks for your comment. Well, in theory it should - however, for me it worked only around two of three times. IMO the new tuners are much better...no issues at all.
@@RockGuitarVibes Oh I hear you! I'm sure they are better. I put the four lines above to help anyone stuck with these tuners to make them work for them.
Thank you so very much! I love my Ibanez Prestige - but hated changing the strings so much I considered just selling the guitar.
Glad I could help... 😎🎸

@@RockGuitarVibes Thanx again!! I just subbed to your channel. Keep up the great work!
Could you please tell me the size of the hex screwdriver? (10mm?) Thank you very much.
Yes, 10mm - that's right!

Will you be going a comparison video between the Charvel and the AZ?? Or could you give your preference of one over the other?? Thanks
Yeah, a comparison - I like the idea, will see... I'm in doubt if I have a preference, possibly that's why I own both 😎🎸
@@RockGuitarVibes I tried a Charvel Rick Graham today…very similar to your pink…except for the Japan bs Mexico part 👍🏼
@@bluepencil99 Never had the chance to try it - I'm a little jealous... 😉
I'd love to see both videos, az/charvel and the rick graham charvel demo would be dynamite
Funny, just seen this video, did the same three days ago with the tuners of my AZ 😂😂

It's mainly a matter of your personal taste - currently I think I prefer the Charvel. But who knows what's next month...
i have the same guitar having tuning issue. did u file the nut? tnx for the video
Works fine for me, never touched the nut.
My ibanez yy20 came with gotoh traditional locking button style.
It stay in tune way better then AZ
Thanks for your comment - tuning stability was never an issue, it's the locking mechanism that sucks.

Loosen string. Cut string at the first fret. Put pick in the slot at the top and turn to loosen. The string will pop out.
